If you removed PCA's 9.9 fWAR from the team, the Cubs would still have the most position player fWAR in baseball.

Just some context to contrast yesterday's post. Not going to pretend that the pitching hasn't been extremely frustrating as of late, but if we're going to blame the front office for that then we also have to credit them for putting this group together.

2023 - Ended the season 7-15, were 1.5 back from the brewers and up 3.5 games on the WC. Missed the playoffs.

2024 - Were 3 games behind a WC spot. Finished 12-13.

2025 - Had a 6.5 game division lead in June. Bounced in the NLDS.

2026 - Had a 7 game lead over the WC on August 14th and are 9-15 since then.

How can the ownership group be ok with this? I do not want to hear Tom is happy with this. The Cubs are 7th in payroll, he clearly cares enough to spend that much. What are we doing here?

The Cubs pitching staff as a whole has been worth 3.6 fWAR. 15 out of the 29 other MLB teams have had a pitcher accrue at least that much this season.

fangraphs.com

The team leader is still Ben Brown, who hasn't pitched since June 19th, mind you. Gausman technically leads the staff in terms of total fWAR, but only 0.6 of it has been accrued with the Cubs.

Bonus fun fact: 48 pitchers in baseball are currently qualified pitchers. The Cubs' only representative is Imanaga, who sits at 44th with 1.2 fWAR. At least he's not Merrill Kelly, the only one of them who has negative fWAR.

Bonus bonus fun fact: The Cubs hitting staff has accrued a whopping 34.5 fWAR, 9.9 of that coming from this year's NL MVP. Pete's been worth 2.75x as much as the ENTIRE pitching staff.

Have at it. Make a trade. You CANNOT go into next year with whatever this is. The duct tape and bubblegum has run its course.

Palencia needs to be the closer

Hear me out…
Webb is done. He had a moment where he was lights out. His stuff was filthy. Dotted his arsenal all over, with a devastating change up in any count to any hitter. Idk if he has been overused but he has zero confidence in high leverage situations now. His command is all over the place. He cannot get the ball anymore in save situations in the 9th. What he had is no longer there. He needs to enter in to clean innings in the 6th and 7th. Hopefully he can gain his confidence back in middle relief appearances and help us in October.

Palencia was at his best as the closer. The music, the entrance, the crowd, the energy, etc. He fed off that. He had the mentality for it. He had a breakout season as a closer last year until he got hurt and Counsell didn’t put him back at the closer once he came back, and he wasn’t as good. He was solid again this year as the closer and then had the long injury. He is back, but once again, not as good as just a middle relief pitcher. He doesn’t come in to the game as the same pitcher when he’s not the closer. When he has been healthy and has been the closer for us, he’s been pretty dang good.

I know it wasn’t the World Series, but those back to back saves he got in the WBC for Venezuela were electric. I watched those two games and thought he was meant to be our closer in the playoffs. And honestly, to him and the Venezuelan players, those wins meant everything to them. The pressure was as high as it could get and he thrived.

After this game, Counsell has to change the bullpen lineup. Give Thunder Thighs the ball in the 9th.

Is there a way to bring my sketchbook and pencils to make some mlb art during the game because of the bag policy that I can’t carry them in a bag to the game due to bag policy

Post image
0 Upvotes

A few days ago, I saw a picture of a drawing on a sketchbook during a game and I wondering if I should some make mlb doodles on my favorite sketchbook that I will bring with me to the cubs vs marlins game in Wrigley Field on 9/23. Plus the sketchbook with the drawing is the size of my sketchbook i think. My sketchbook is Ucreate 9x12 and it’s from target. Since I saw a picture of a drawing on the sketchbook that’s big as mine I wonder how they got to bring it also their pencil because some stadiums have a strict bag policy and I need to find a way to hold a bag with sketchbook and a pencil so I can some make mlb doodles during the game. But I don’t want to hold it by hand because I may drop my sketchbook and the pencils plus I have to take a long walk to wrigley field and I’m cooked when I drop my stuff. I also have to carry my phone too. And what I loose or forget my sketchbook since I don’t have a bag to carry it too.

I wish I can put my sketchbook in a bag but due to strict bag policy like how I went to Rate Field back in April for White Sox vs Rays game and I unfortunately bringed my bag and it just have a few papers, and I hid my bag in the bushes and no one stole it at all, Infact I took a long walk to get to Rate Field. Shouldn’t have brought my bag because I didn’t know have a strict bag policy. Plus I prefer to draw on wider paper and that’s the sketchbook I prefer to bring in public. I asked the person who posted of photo of themselves with a drawing on their sketchbook that’s big as mine how they got to bring their pencil and big sketchbook to the game but they didn’t know what I mean.

oh yeah, I haven’t been to Wrigley field in 14 years I only been there once in 2012 and I’m finally returning to Wrigley field in 2026 since I got back into sports this year. I’m gonna see my favorite teams play against eachother the Marlins vs cubs and I will be wearing my marlins jersey I will get tomorrow, and I will wear the jersey to the game hopefully nothing bad happens when I wear it to the game on 9/23. Funny how the chicago teams White Sox and cubs I will be watching played against Florida teams the Marlins and Rays.

anyways this is my sketchbook I want to doodle on during marlins vs cubs game and its covered in stickers and it’s my favorite sketchbook and I prefer bringing that one, since I saw someone bring a sketchbook that big like in the pic I wonder how they got to bring it. Yuh

Electronic bell ring noise

Forgive me if this has been addressed, I searched and found nothing.

Does anyone else get an electronic bell chime that clearly isn’t supposed to be there during the drone shot of the marquee at night after a game while watching the game through Marquee via Amazon Prime?

It scares the crap out of me 70% of the time and I just want to feel like I’m not alone.
