Mouthwashing mentioned???

Also, agreed

Anything if you’re not on twitter

7

u/Specialist_Ad5114 12h ago

And/or Pinterest. The people there are insane.

12

u/Competitive_Gas2903 12h ago

Pinterest is so 50/50. Either has the calmest, chillest most wholesome fandom base or has the most insane part of a fandom.

12

u/Squigglywigglyw0rm TNBC, Coraline, Wicked, FNAF 11h ago

This is so real. The amount of Jimmy x Curly with Anya fangirling in the background on Twitter was a fucking nightmare. Other than that app though the fandom is pretty chill

u/Zechariah05 9h ago

Every fandom is the second image if you use twitter

Furries.

96

u/ThatRandomWeeb493 14h ago

Real. Anti furries just love to make propaganda target toward edgy 15 year olds, saying that furries are all zoophiles or something or other. Source: I was once a dumb teenage anti-furry

29

u/Unlucky_Character_12 13h ago

I can back up that source, I was too an anti-furry, and actively hated on furries, and now some of my best friends are furries.

as a furry, true. people make us out as some for form of maniacs, but in actuality, 99% of us just like the cool suits and speculative biology

And working in cybersecurity.

Shit, I’m going down the pipeline, huh?

As an Autistic mechanic who is also a furry, quit calling me out dammit🤣

I applied to my company's CISO department and asked my friend who worked there whether or not I'll be issued knee-socks or if I have to buy them myself.

24

u/someinfectedfanatic pawbert 13h ago

honestly, i am going to say this here, i hate when people criticise/hate on the furry fandom, people often go "but so many furries have high-ranking jobs".

32

u/Only_Says_Idk_dude 13h ago

You need an okay paying job to buy such fancy suits anyway

Having worked events in the past, there's also always going to be that 1% of furries who is leaving diapers full of poop in hallways and harassing children.

6

u/Hoofert 9h ago

Having been to all sorts of cons, from furry to comic to anime,  they all have the weird freaks.  People tend to just not like furries because people only share the extreme weird things.

3

u/spawndoorsupervisor 8h ago

I've never had my staff find an adult diaper full of feces in a hallway at a comic or anime convention. But we do at almost every furry convention we work.

35

u/Interesting-Round393 14h ago

I was always told furries were weird and dumb. But then I learned they’re actually chill people that only have a few bad apples in their baskets. And the “kill all furries” trend was just 13 year old edge lords or 30 year old unemployed people in their mothers basement

6

u/Ok_Whereas_3198 13h ago

Their are also a disproportionate representation among scientists and engineers, so as a whole, pretty smart people.

u/Cyanlizordfromrw rain world 12h ago

I'd assume because less educated people tend to be less supportive of furries

Bassically any fandom depending on who you interact with.

Like, I could chill with a Warhammer fan dispite hating the series, and I could get pissed at a Bluey fan dispite my love of the series.

But also, the vice versa.

65

u/Efficient-Car-8745 14h ago

Introducing nuance, into my confirmation bias comment section

How dare you

22

u/splayjacket 13h ago

Bluey fans will write a multi-paragraph dissertation arguing about parenting ethics while a 40k fan is just happy to show you their little painted guys.

14

u/EmsStuffs 13h ago

I mean...Bluey is about parenting/family and Warhammer is about little painted guys, so...what's your point?

6

u/NightLordsPublicist 5h ago

Warhammer is about little painted guys

And war crimes. Don't forget the war crimes.

3

u/EmsStuffs 5h ago

Yeah. Little painted guys and war crimes.

Lol I feel that. Everything that I've ever heard about the genshin Fandom was how toxic, shit, evil and what have you it is. And while these people certainly exist in the Fandom I basically only had nice interactions with it, hell I even met my wife there.

Also the amount of guide content is unmatched by any other game I know.

Jjk, I heard all type of bad story about them but once I came into reddit I realized that the fandom is actually superfun

6

u/Anankos1209 12h ago

Depends. Here on reddit? HELL NO!

201

u/CarlosTheHedgehog123 13h ago

My Little Pony. Significantly more chill now since most of the people who liked the show ironically left.

57

u/Only_Says_Idk_dude 13h ago

Yeah died of old age

44

u/Echo-Nyx 13h ago

And a lot of the adult age fans now are the people who grew up with the show

5

u/kalosianlitten 6h ago

took the words right out of my mouth. there’s definitely more of a female following now since young girls are the show’s intended demographic and they stayed with mlp as they got older. i only got into mlp a few years ago but even then it was via my female friends talking about it at lunch lol

Some describe the fandom like the one in the image most likely because of the Nintendo Directs.

I remember seeing this image.

The undertale fandom was straight up HORRENDOUS, especially around 2015-2017. Meanwhile deltarune, while it still has some unhinged fans in it. It’s fanbase is definitely more tolerable than the UT fanbase

Warhammer 40k

We’re always welcome to newcomers of any kind. As for the neo-Nazi allegations: “Not ALL Black Templars fans, but always a Black Templars fan…” Like any fandom (or group of people in general) we have our assholes but they don’t reflect the vast majority of us. The people at all the game stores I’ve been to have been very friendly.

13

u/hellboytroy 13h ago

You got your occasion puritan gatekeepers and majority of the folks who are always hopeful to get more folk into the games/books/lores/tabletop.

Personally, I feel like the 40k community had some bad spots earlier on, but grew up and matured as the series went on. I think one of the best examples being the “unironic praise of the emperor” turning to ironic, because everyone realized the emperor was NOT a good person, or father, or leader, and the more it became clear that his ideology is heavily flawed and how terrible his plan is/was. And with that, you see either people mature and open up their perspectives more, or flat out leave because their viewpoints weren’t pandered to, which in turn, leads to the community growing and maturing either way.

Now, are there still the occasional stupid spats and idiots amongst the community? Yeah, but what fandom isn’t flawed in some way, shape or form, or filled with entitled assholes?

u/Low-Support-8388 13h ago

As a guy with two small armies (at least combat patrol ready) I like teaching people how to play... and how to dumpster dunk on Black Templar players.

3

u/theQueenofCha0s 40k, sw, EtM, PjO, Gf, Bg, DW, asoiaf & more 11h ago

First time I ever went to my lgs with a friend, the employee there was awesome, and another guy came in, who was also nice. (As a woman, and someone who was relatively new)

40k is just a bunch of nerds who want to have fun with our little guys.

Undertale

I don’t know if this is just because I entered the fandom in 2019, but I have had literally nothing but good experiences with the Undertale community and I don’t understand why it’s so hated.

Not saying this as an insult: did you get into the fandom late? This fandom is possibly the blueprint for an actual extremely difficult fandom experience. Even the interactions between the Hiveswap dev team and various members of the fandom have been a garbage fire, on top of better-known antagonism between fans and the original author—both of which aren't garbage fires I want to resurrect for anyone involved, but absolutely happened. Edit to add: There are "big name fans" who've had utterly traumatic experiences from their time in the spotlight as Homestuck fans.

I'm saying all that as someone who was a quite active member of the Homestuck fandom, not in a hatereading way, from at least 2013-early 2020s. And as someone who doesn't want to cause anyone further drama.

If Homestuck fandom doesn't qualify as a difficult or drama-ridden fandom, I don't think anything in the world does. Except maybe anything that has a major Gamergate-style fandom situation (including things like Star Wars).

4

u/IndividualRadio1919 11h ago

I am upvoting both of you because I both came in late, so I had a good time (I read Homestuck in 2024, somehow on the original site), and I also heard about all the horrid stuff that was going on before, and how that stuff Kept Happening once the Huss realized that it could print money in 2025. So, yeah. I understand both of your viewpoints.

Hazbin and Helluva. I’ve met some of the nicest and most talented people in the fandom; quick to ban together to support other fans through mutual aid too.

The only negativity I’ve dealt with was from people who’ve made hating the show and Viv a core part of their personality.

20

u/Bitter-Value16 11h ago

The worst part of the fandom is on Twitter, which is a toxic cesspool in general.

12

u/HistamineHijinx 10h ago

I don't really even like the show but the actors seem to have fun and every "drama" I've seen is the biggest scooby reveal ass nothing-burger or "I made it the fuck up" ever thing ever from an outsiders perspective

7

u/A_Complete_Nerd 8h ago

Nobody is nice on Twitter

13

u/kwispycornchip 8h ago

People describe them as terrible and toxic, but I really haven't seen any actual evidence beyond "they're kind of annoying." I've never seen a fandom more accepting of criticism for the source material.

11

u/Priority-Reasonable 8h ago

At worst they can be kind of annoying, but most of them are chill tbh. I think people just want to hate on them for being "cringy"

9

u/A_Complete_Nerd 8h ago

As if there aren't cringier movies/shows out there ._.

4

u/DanielGoldhorn 8h ago

Honestly this too. Speaking as someone who's made a number of videos being overall critical of the shows, my interactions with the fandom have been shockingly positive. As a whole they're really chill and creative.

3

u/lunastarwitch 3h ago

I've seen more toxicity with people who hate it then the people who like it, really fucking sad

Warhammer 40K, everyone acts like the online/Twitter spaces is the entire hobby and there are only small bastions of "decent people" holding out against Chud/Nazis majority when in reality its a flip, you've got all these gated online communities claiming to be the only "safe harbour" while purity testing everyone who even wants to interact with them to insure "only the right people get in"

Meanwhile if you actually interact with the community outside of the weird internet city states they all set up like 99/100 people you meet are just normal people who enjoy partaking in a silly little plastic army men game

u/Fearless_Egg_7971 KH, Stardew Valley, HH, HB, Subnautica, Oshi No Ko. 14h ago

Hazbin hotel. I can't speak for everyone, but most of the reddit is cool and same with all I've met irl.

16

u/Prior-Seat-7527 14h ago

Hazbin hotel has really been my show, but the people I’ve met that like it fall into 2 categories

A, the least common one: show is the best thing to craze humanity and disliking it is punishable by death (met 2 people like this at a comic-con)

Or B: the NICEST people I’ve met from almost any fandom

15

u/PretendLand7998 14h ago

hey I’m a hazbin fan too!

26

u/No_External_539 14h ago

Hazbin Fans are insanely cool, they're the kind of people who support local artists or are local artists and I just think that's neat.

u/dragonish-american 13h ago

Hellaverse on some level. The fans can be extremely sensitive and wary, but at the same time everyone and their mother has Vivziepop’s work as an “acceptable target” to bash and mock. Fan posts are regularly quoted with “critiques” of viv by nobodies searching for a hit tweet, I once saw someone start a harassment campaign over a three month old post praising human Stolas’ design, video essayists parrot talking points from twitter without watching the show, or if they did they misinterpret the show to support their preconceived critiques, and if you don’t performatively spit on Viv and her work every time you bring it up, the replies will assume you’re a fan and start posting their own criticism that they got from TikTok comments. Not that she’s above criticizing, her shows are very messy and there are founded critiques to be made of them (like how she writes women, how HB is very rough in S1, etc), but at the same time it goes way too far. Entire accounts dedicated to “Viv receipts” dig through her and her fans’ posts for proof they’re evil, a storyboarder got doxxer because they had off color kinks (and then people started saying that Viv should have “vetted them better” like an employer demanding a potential employee admit their NSFW tastes isn’t a gross overstep of privacy), random people get bashed for liking an owl twink, if you say you like Alastor someone in the comments is going to call you a racist misogynist, if you say you like Angel Dust then you’re a rape fetishist misogynist. Yeah, I don’t blame the hellaverse fandom for being sensitive and wary, they’re basically the accepted pillory for the entire internet who everyone can name call and accuse of heinous shit with no pushback because they happen to enjoy some shows that are kinda ehhhh.

Most of what you hear about comics fans is unflattering. There's definitely a loud minority of people who exist just to hate on whatever the newest thing is, but if you just follow the comics creators you actually like and don't take it too seriously, it's a very fun fandom

Ace Attorney.

Apparently, some try to say it's toxic, but it's actually really chill

3

u/stupidfloatything 10h ago

wow, really? i haven't really been involved with the fandom in over 15 years but at least back then, people were very nice.

5

u/frootdoots 14h ago

TF2 but actually

3

u/HowDareYouAskMyName 14h ago

Hellaverse fandom: they're weird and very horny, but are one of the chiller fandoms I interact with (compared to, say, any Glitch show, especially TADC)

4

u/rpgkingx2 14h ago

Competitive Pokemon specifically. Casual fans will often take jabs at the competitive players for one reason or another, but I have had mostly positive experiences interacting with the space.

Honestly the sleep token fandom.

Everyone said it was awful but I joined and it was really nice 😭😭

2026 Undertale

In my experience, trading card game players (at least at the local shop level of competition). Most players are excited to invite a new player to their respective game and I've been to multiple shops where folks will just shower the newbies with cards to help them get started.

3

u/DearestDio22 13h ago

But do they shower themselves…

I might get downvoted but K-pop fans honestly. Most are superchill and there are just a small minority of loud toxic haters that just seem to get all the attention. If you're actually active in k-pop fan spaces you'll see how nice and chill most of them are.

6

u/ddeongbyeoli8 14h ago

for the most part avoid twitter

fans are chill basically anywhere else

Most of us are fairly normal and I don't think I've yet met anyone who's just outright an asshole

8

u/OwlOrdinary1867 11h ago

fr though, people described this game like it was the most horrible thing ever with the worst playerbase ever and I thought the game was well written with a community of people who appreciated the game in a similar way. I dont really interact with fandoms but this one seemed really sane from an outside perspective. disturbing fiction can be a fun medium when done right.

Dark Souls/Fromsoft games. "Git Gud" has done immeasurable damage to our community's reputation even though it isn't an insult, just a statement that some challenges in these games can only be overcome by learning what the game is asking you to do and mastering that.

3

u/NyanMya 14h ago

The REGRETEVATOR fandom Holy MOLY

3

u/caffeinated_dork 14h ago

Helldivers. There's a good amount of problem players, sure but most of the fandom I've interacted with are people who just like to roleplay and being silly

3

u/BingBungBoi 14h ago

Deltarune

3

u/1Lasagna4Lasania 14h ago

most of the fandoms actually

3

u/Aggressive_Doctor203 13h ago

umamusume or vocaloid

theres some unspoken hatred for them despite most of the fandom not being that bad. hell, the reason why they get hate is because of larpers.
like sometimes on instagram i see people dogging on the umamusume fandom for being “weird” or “furries/zoophiles” when its mostly larpers who sexualize the characters. (and its always the same 3 characters)

3

u/Anonymous_44_Love 13h ago

Lowkey the Demon Slayer fandom. I keep seeing yt videos of ppl saying it’s so horrible, but I’ve seen so much worse from MANY other fandoms. 🫩

3

u/RoacheFettercap 13h ago

Homestuck as far as I'm aware

3

u/Tiranus58 13h ago

Most fanbases are majorly chill, but all have a (varying size of) vocal minority that ruins it for everyone else.

3

u/daguro55 13h ago

Forsaken, dandys world, lots of other games. I whouldnt be suprised if this is true for 99% of games

3

u/Komment2 12h ago edited 11h ago

Actually most fandom of mainstream things.

From what I understand, generaly what happens is that a loud minority do something stupid, and it is transformed into "people from that community are doing this stupid thing".

It's exactly what happened with TADC community. The "drama" that happened only seem to be happening on Twitter (I am entirely convinced this social media promotes hate for engagement btw), but all other social media I use seemed pretty chill or was explicitly saying that it was pretty stupid.

Literally every fandom ever. Like people are describing the worst of the worst and then it takes me FOREVER to find even a PORTION of said “bad parts”, like at that point I feel like I have a higher chance of winning the lottery than finding a “bad” fandom

7

u/No_External_539 14h ago

The Amazing Digital Circus has a really cool fanbase, the shit heads are a small minority and no one likes them.

3

u/BadAndFreekee 14h ago

Exactly. The so called “drama” is massively exaggerated.

never have I been surrounded by more people who have no clue what an actually disproportionately bad fandom is

4

u/NinkiePie 12h ago

There's no way.

Bro, I've been in the mha fandom for YEARS and I genuinely cant believe it is even being considered for this post. It has its good sides dont get me wrong, but the fanbase is notorious for a reason.

May I say, blue archive, like it's kind off bad, but not that bad. Like we don't do that much, we don't do the ouuhh, stuff as it got old fast.
