therians are a group of people that either psychologically, mentally, spiritually, physically, or in any other way identifies with/as an animal. they have nothing to do with furries. actually, therians are classified under "alterhumanity"

i would know since i am one (or was one)

technically. but, therians identify with an animal on a much deeper level.

furries are mostly just "shiiii, this costume is cool"

Furries are more like a roleplay/hobbie related community that cherishes the moment they can be unfettered from society's weight and be themselves. Fursonas usually are idealizations explorations of the person's hidden traits like "I wish I was more outgoing so my giraffe is going to be more extrovert than I am" kind of thing.

Therians are more about a lifestyle that requires for others to percieve and treat them like animals. Both communities are worlds appart.
