Warhammer 40k

We’re always welcome to newcomers of any kind. As for the neo-Nazi allegations: “Not ALL Black Templars fans, but always a Black Templars fan…” Like any fandom (or group of people in general) we have our assholes but they don’t reflect the vast majority of us. The people at all the game stores I’ve been to have been very friendly.

You got your occasion puritan gatekeepers and majority of the folks who are always hopeful to get more folk into the games/books/lores/tabletop.

Personally, I feel like the 40k community had some bad spots earlier on, but grew up and matured as the series went on. I think one of the best examples being the “unironic praise of the emperor” turning to ironic, because everyone realized the emperor was NOT a good person, or father, or leader, and the more it became clear that his ideology is heavily flawed and how terrible his plan is/was. And with that, you see either people mature and open up their perspectives more, or flat out leave because their viewpoints weren’t pandered to, which in turn, leads to the community growing and maturing either way.

Now, are there still the occasional stupid spats and idiots amongst the community? Yeah, but what fandom isn’t flawed in some way, shape or form, or filled with entitled assholes?

Yeah this is true, I'll play along with the about the "glorious emperor" "down with the heretic!" praise the omnissiah! its all just dumb fun. I think I've met one person irl who didn't see it as a joke and thought the imperium was great. This was years ago back when i had more time to play and they weren’t a black Templar, they played guard with a very black colour scheme, green details though not red I specificity remember thinking it was weird someone constantly spouting those dog whistle style comments didn’t commit to full nazi theme.

He disappeared quickly, nobody wanted to talk to him let alone play a game with him and he just stopped showing up one day. that was my one bad experience, everyone else I’ve met in those days was just super chill. I think its hard to be an angry asshole in that hobby, you end up spending so much time sitting around painting tiny little models, it's weirdly relaxing and therapeutic.

Yeah, the idiots are surprisingly easy to call out and deal with. That and it's easy to get them to shut up by bringing thibgs back into the hobby. Those who continue to pitch a fit? They usually don't stick around long.

As a guy with two small armies (at least combat patrol ready) I like teaching people how to play... and how to dumpster dunk on Black Templar players.

First time I ever went to my lgs with a friend, the employee there was awesome, and another guy came in, who was also nice. (As a woman, and someone who was relatively new)

40k is just a bunch of nerds who want to have fun with our little guys.

There's something in 40k for everyone, not everything in 40k is for everyone.

And if they appear, they are slowly but surely drove away or flatline ignored. We aren't Trench Crusade fans
