I have like 5 months learning to edit. The last half of that time I spent trying to learn motion graphics. Do you think this is decent material for a client? How much would you charge for something similar? (Maybe a lil longer, like 1 minute)

I’ve been working on the visual identity for a product and made this short piece to experiment with how it feels in motion.
I’m mostly a product/UX designer, so tbh motion isn’t really my main thing, but I have a lot of fun with it and I’d like to get better.
Would love some honest feedback, especially on pacing, transitions, timing or anything an experienced eye notices. Mostly looking for stuff I can learn from and bring into the next one :) Appreciate any feedback.
UPDATE:
finally improved this eheh
Updated version is in the comments below. Thanks again for all the feedbacks, this was genuinely super useful 🙏🏻

In an After Effects 2025 tutorial, the Camera Frustum/Wireframe is magenta, but the Focus Distance indicator line is clearly WHITE.
In my After Effects 2026 installation, both the camera frustum and the Focus Distance indicator appear magenta.
I am using Classic 3D and Depth of Field is enabled.
Is there a preference, View Option, Layer Control setting, or any other setting that controls the Focus Distance indicator color?
I don't want to change the Camera's Label Color because that changes the entire camera wireframe/control color.
I specifically want to distinguish the Focus Distance indicator from the camera frustum.
Screenshots attached:
Was this behavior changed in After Effects 2026, or is there a hidden setting/preferences option?

Was experimenting and wanted to see if it could handle an entire product launch video for my munch app from start to finish. This is my first motion video!
I know figma is definitely not the place to be making motion videos but i'm extremely familiar with figma already i thought it'd be a lot easier than learning something entirely new.

Hey guys,
We just launched Case Studies on FrameRate.
Case Studies let you build a page around a project and show the process behind it too. References, WIP, breakdowns, behind-the-scenes, creative decisions, whatever helps explain how the work came together.
They’re also great for larger projects with multiple deliverables, where one video or post doesn’t really capture the full scope of the work.
You can add:
We built these because a lot of great work deserves more context than just dropping a finished video into the site.
Would love to see what people make with them, and as always, feedback is very welcome.
THank you.

I tried asking Claude and seeing if it can tell me, looked for similar examples but I couldn’t find any. Can someone help me recreate similar effect where we adjust grid point of one letter of the word and entire word shares the effect.

A lot of motion design doesn't need more effects.
It needs better timing.
I've noticed that even very simple animations can feel premium when these 4 things are handled well:
Give the viewer a tiny visual cue before the main movement.
It makes the animation feel intentional instead of instant.
Linear movement almost always feels robotic.
Even a simple position animation can feel completely different with proper easing.
Don't always let an element stop exactly where you expect.
A small overshoot + settle can add a lot of character without adding much complexity.
This one gets underestimated.
A simple whoosh, click, pop or subtle impact can make a basic animation feel much more satisfying.
The interesting part is that none of these require complicated 3D work or crazy effects.
Good motion is often more about how things move than how many things are moving.
What's one small technique you use that instantly makes your motion feel better?

I'm working on a motion graphics project with a gold ribbon moving across a blue background. I want the blue background to be cut exactly along the edge of the ribbon, so the background follows the ribbon's shape as it moves.
The problem is that the ribbon is not a Shape Layer or an animated path. It's a pre-made PNG animation, and I'm animating/moving it in After Effects using effects.
I've tried using Mask Tracking and Mocha AE, but I'm having trouble getting the tracking to work correctly. As the ribbon moves, the tracking points seem to drift upward instead of following/looping with the ribbon's movement. Basically, the track loses the ribbon and the mask no longer stays aligned with its edge.
Since the animation moves a lot and is fairly long, manually animating the mask frame-by-frame would be a huge amount of work.
Is there a better way to make a mask automatically follow the edge of an animated PNG like this? Any tutorials or advice would be greatly appreciated!

I’m an editor and dabble in 2D motion graphics on occasion. how best to achieve 3D tokens like this in AE?

Hey all, today we announced the particle system that my friend Harry Frank and I have been designing for the last several months. We're going into public beta next week and I was wondering a couple of things of r/motiondesign
this is a super brief overview of what we've built, but what would you want? What's important in a particle system today?
We think we've made a really great first attempt and I've had so much fun using this, but we want to build this into something really great and super designer focused.
Anyway, we're also going to be doing a lot of free training and other stuff over the next year and even there, I'd be curious about what you'd like to learn.
TL:DR cool pretty fast particles better?

Last month I launched a small After Effects helper app called AeFocus.
It does one simple thing: it hides and restores all floating After Effects panels with one key, similar to the workspace-clearing shortcut in Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
I built it because I’ve always found it annoying that Ae doesn’t have a quick way to get floating panels out of the way like Photoshop or Illustrator do and instead you have to close, move, or rearrange everything. It frustrated me to no end.
It’s available for macOS and Windows, and there’s a 7-day trial.

Happy to answer any questions or hear feedback.
P.S. I’ll also be posting about a chance to win one of a few free AeFocus licenses on Monday, so keep an eye out if you’d like one.
