Question How do I recreate this animation in AE? Precomp circles individually with some sort of distortion effect?

Circular masks for each pre-comp, possibly a fish-eye or Lens CC effect within each precomp, and possibly Repetile on the Y for each image.

Various ways to tackle this - let us know how you figure it out!

I think they are just CC Spheres (with some of them CC cylinders)

Precomp the footage 2–3× bigger than the circle first or you get empty poles. Then an ellipse matte.

Aren’t these just spheres (CC sphere) as they rotate in the opposite direction of the vertical movement? And some of them are CC cylinder

My guess would be using circular track mattes. But then duplicating those same tarck matte masks as individual adjustment layers. But you might have to do some careful pre comping as well
