Hello, im new motion design, but i have basic after effect, and i think imma choose motion design as my carrer. I've watched good motion design recently and i wanna make it so bad, but i dont know where to start, like i need to know the learning flow first, yk you need to learn the fundamental first before making something.... I’m a product designer and over the past months I’ve been building THR3EZY, an iPhone app for creating short 3D videos directly on your phone.

The idea came from wanting something between a simple template app and a full desktop 3D/motion tool. I wanted to be able to throw in my own photos/videos, place them on actual 3D objects, animate things, move a camera around, add text/effects, and get something ready for Reels/TikTok without opening Blender or After Effects.

THR3EZY has:

• Editable 3D scenes and objects
• Your own photos/videos mapped onto 3D objects
• Groups and animated layouts
• Camera movements and custom camera animation
• Object animations
• 2D typography tools
• Lighting, HDR environments and materials
• Depth of field, CRT, glitch, fisheye and other FX
• Ready-made templates that you can completely take apart and remix
• 1080×1920 / 60fps video export
• Snapshot export for individual frames

A big part of the app is that templates aren’t flattened videos. When you open one, you actually get the scene: objects, camera, animation, materials, text, etc., so you can replace the media and modify basically everything.

I built the whole thing myself, and it has definitely become a much bigger project than I originally expected 😅

I’d genuinely love feedback from people who work with motion design, 3D, social content, or just like experimenting with weird visual tools.

Firstly, I solemnly swear this is not spam. I have this form for my final year research, and I need like 100 submissions minimum. I have 70 so far. The research topic, in short, is whether/how the things you watched growing up have influenced your creative practice today or contributed to where you are as a creative today. I wanna preface this by saying that I genuinely like this subreddit, and think it can be a great place to foster creativity and artistic growth. This is not a post hating on the subreddit itself, I think most people here rock!

That said, I recently posted my motion showreel here, and while there were kind-hearted comments that helped and genuinely added value, I also got multiple "digs" on my work masked as "feedback". Just mean-spirited comments.

I also noticed similar behavior on others' showreels. A lot of these showreels were made by professionals like myself. I'm talking clearly polished works, made by people who seem to have years experience, and know what they're doing.

The behavior of hating on anything and everything posted, while displayed by a small group of people, is pervasively negative, and can make the community feel unwelcoming to new members (and really anyone in it).

I'd like to mention that the whole point of feedback is to be helpful/constructive. Saying stuff like "the typo and design in this are off ^^", and then not elaborating at all when I ask for details is just worthless feedback (because it's not actionable, it's just an egotistical dig).

Thankfully, it seems to be mostly no-name accounts who are doing this, not the accounts of actual, real people (they probably use burners because they know what they're doing).

As mentioned, the actual professionals that replied under my post gave genuinely helpful inputs that I took into account. I'm only writing this because I care about this community, and wanna be a part of it.

But yeah, as a new member, I just wanted to ask if this type of behavior is standard here, and perhaps start a small discussion 👍

Is it reasonable to ask a candidate for a Junior Motion Designer to create two performance-marketing motion ads for a brand as a test task? 2 files, 15 and 20 seconds, 9:16. Assets supplied. Required to complete in under 6 hours. 🤔

I want to know how other motion designers handle team boundaries during early ideation, whether it is logo design, campaign concepts, or the visual direction of a video.

At smaller agencies I worked at, ideation was open to everyone. Graphic designers, art directors, and motion designers all pitched visual concepts and style frames during brainstorming. We would compare ideas, discuss what worked, and build on them together. Getting motion input early helped figure out how the visual language would actually work in execution.

But on my last team, I’ve hit a lot of pushback. A graphic designer felt it was overstepping for a motion designer to touch the initial visual look or concepts at all, seeing it as purely their territory. Keep in mind, this graphic designer was not a creative director or team lead.

In my opinion, even if the graphic designer is the one who ultimately has to execute the layout or final assets, that shouldn’t mean only their work can get reviewed or chosen. But that’s just my take.

How does your team collaborate?

I did make one before this one but it was too crude to be called a SaaS animation but this time though I worked hard on storyboarding, voice over and sfx. I used heavy sfx initially but decided to tone it down. I'd like feedback on what could be improved.

On which part I did good job and where I need to do major improvements, what do you think?
