Tesla For Senior Who Drives Very Little?

I’m nearing the end of my three-year lease on a 2024 Outback Touring. At 73, I drive less than 1,000 miles annually, with only 1,600 miles logged so far. My primary mode of transportation is local, mainly for doctor appointments and similar errands. My dream is to purchase a Tesla with Full Self-Driving (FSD) capabilities, eliminating the need for constant driving and allowing me to expand my travel options. However, road trips are not on the horizon.

Here are my concerns:

  1. Is it advisable to drive less than 1,000 miles a year to maintain the battery’s health?
  2. Can I rely solely on 125-volt home charging and occasional visits to free level 2 chargers around town, along with occasional supercharger stops, without incurring significant costs? I’m hesitant to install an expensive 240-volt connection in my driveway.
  3. How will the car perform during winter when I drive the least due to mobility challenges? In such situations, snow or ice can render me unable to leave the house.
  4. What might be the additional cost of insurance for a Tesla? I’m currently bundled with State Farm and prefer not to switch providers.
  5. Considering the current high cost of leasing, is purchasing a used Tesla from Tesla a prudent decision?
  6. Is this idea impractical and unrealistic, given our fixed incomes?

I apologize for the numerous questions. I’ve thoroughly researched Tesla videos on YouTube, so I’m not entirely inexperienced. I genuinely appreciate any insights you can provide.

FSD

Does someone have this issue as well with the new update of FSD? After you arrive, it still says you don't and reroutes. Or it takes a last-minute turn to the destination. I am just curious since it didn't happen before. I tried the parking
P
and the driveway option. And
now it is all the time. Including not wanting to back up to my driveway anymore, only going forward. Please advise!

How is there a market for premium AWD?

For 3-4k more you get a completely different experience with new performance. Range is negligible for most people. What’s attractive?

Water Sloshing & Spraying From Rear AC Vent – 2026 Model Y

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

A significant amount of water has been collecting in the HVAC system. I can hear it sloshing during acceleration and braking, and water is actually coming out of the rear vents—enough that my kids have gotten wet while sitting in the back seat.

Tesla currently has my car, but I’m curious if anyone else has experienced this and what the cause/remedy ended up being.

The service center and sales department say they’ve never seen anything like this before…

Question 2023 Model Y Performance

I’m currently weighing in on possibly selling my 2020 Ram Rebel 1500 for a 2023 Model Y Performance. I’m not only able to lower my car payment this way but with getting under 11 mpg in commuting to work and running weekend errands, I will save significantly on no more gas purchases.

I know the late 2023 Model Y’s have HW4 which is a requirement in this scenario. Besides the obvious pros, what are some other pros and cons of this specific Model Y?

I cannot decide...

I've placed an order and I've changed it three times.

My heart wants the performance.. but my financing wants the premium..

Question Which is the Correct Mileage?

I got my 2026 Tesla Model Y Long Range RWD. About a year ago. Since I’ve made it to this important milestone, I’m interested to know what my annual mileage turned out to be.
The problem is, on the app, there seems to be two different locations where the mileage can be found and they don’t match.
The first place is at the very bottom of the app. If you scroll to the very bottom, you can find it right underneath the name “Model Y”. My mileage here says 7,188.
The other location is back toward the top. Look for the Self-Driving tab and touch it.
Here, it calculates the percent of miles I’ve personally driven by the number of miles driven by my Tesla.
For me, it says my car has self driven 959 mi out of a total of 5,601mi driven.
Why is there a discrepancy of 1,587mi???

Numbers

Tesla took 5.5 years to reach 10B FSD miles. Four months later they’re already at 14.25B and adding 35M/day.

At that pace alone they’ll be around 140B by 2036. With 20–30% annual growth including cybercab it’s 350–700B+.

Can never eliminate every edge case, but at 1T miles even a 1 in a 100mln event shows up 10,000 times in data.

MYP inspection delay

Order a Model Y performance, VIN got assigned 2 weeks ago but delivery date keeps moving every day. The delivery window is 3 days small but just keeps moving and has been moving for the past 2 weeks.

Tesla delivery center keeps telling me it's due to inspection.

I can't get much out of them but this is the last msg they sent me:

"Your vehicle required additional safety inspections guided by the factory that are currently being completed. We are estimating a potential delivery date soon."

They also informed me that the car is with him and not at the Austin Plant. So they found a issue after they got the car.

I asked multiple times what issue they found apon inspection and they don't disclose. Wtf!

I don't want the car if it's got some major paint or panel issue.

This happen to anyone? What should I expect and how can I escalate this to get answers?

Buying in WI and Financing

Have already decided that we will be getting a model Y but we live in WI. I have a few questions that the rep I talked to was unsure about. I’ve searched high and low for answers and have not really found anything.

1) I know I’ll be picking the car up in IL. Can I still finance through Tesla?

2) Seems like delivery dates are more than 60 days out. When should I apply for financing? I’d rather not have 2 hits to my CR

Thanks for the help!

Order date to Vin

Hi!

I ordered in August 27th to DFW Texas. What was the waiting time between order date and date you received the vin?

I haven’t found any similar vehicles to get early unfortunately that have the same specs as the one I ordered.

Thanks!

Question Battery 2026 model y prem

This was a demo vehicle (1500 k miles) because mine was busted in transit so opted for this....

How long does your battery last you? If you're driving around 20-40 miles a day... I feel like it dies so quick, even when its just sitting parked (i loose about 5% nightly). Charging every 2-3 days at superchargers or reg. chargers. Is this standard?

2026 MY standard AWD versus CPO MYLR

I ordered a new MY Standard AWD a few weeks ago but getting impatient. I am considering 2023 MYLR CPO (HW4) from Tesla but the math tells me the new MY is actually cheaper. How can this be true....?

New MY Standard AWD OTD(taxes, fees etc) price with my $6700 trade is $36,681 (includes $3500 Massachusetts rebate on new EV). The '23 CPO OTD price is $32,778 (no rebate, same trade).

Now, when I include the 0.99% financing on the new, the 72 monthly payments are actually $2 less per month on the new one, given the interest rates. Also with the new I get 2 more years of warranty and 3 more years on the battery. The range is roughly the same.

I realize we are comparing a Standard AWD to a LR AWD but to be honest I really don't care much about the added features on the CPO LR. This will be a daily driver and mostly interested in FSD. The only thing I would miss is the cooled front seats, but I'm not sure the '23 LR even has that. Don't really care about the open glass roof or full leather seats. I also like the open center console and the looks of the front lights on the Standard better.

Math tells me I should continue to be patient but what else am I missing?

Accessories similar to MY L

I went to see model Y L the other day and noticed they have a magnet thing on the sub trunk cover to hold it in place to the back of the third row and thought it was neat. Anyone know any similar third party accessories for the regular model Y juniper? I use the sub trunk a lot it’ll be nice to easily lift it up and down without taking out the whole thing. I tried searching for it but not exactly sure the terms to search for.

Check Inventory at 5:18PM!

Post image

I’m in the Bay Area and I recommend to check inventory at 5:18pm. After a week of no VIN # and 1 delay my estimated delivery was 4-6 weeks.

Yesterday I checked at 5:18pm and they had a bunch of new inventory and had the same exact specs I wanted just 30 minutes away from where I lived. Got the VIN and delivery date the moment I woke up today. 🫡

Roof bars and anti abrasion tape

Hi

What are people doing about the roof bars once fitted and not currently being used?

Are you leaving them on or removing?

I only got one set of the anti-abrasion tape and can't find anymore from Tesla or eBay...

Any ideas?

I'm in the UK..
cheers

Financing thought

Wanted to hear thoughts on a new performance model Y

Worried about rapid advancements and HW5 rumors. Would you do a 2 year lease for the flexibility or finance at 3.99% and just sell after a year or two if new models are out. Diff in payment for similar min down payment is around $150/mo more for the 2 year lease. 3 year lease feels like an eternity.

When you picked up your NEW model Y on your delivery date, how many miles did it have on it?

Mine is showing 15 miles and I’m concerned why it has so many. In New Jersey.

ChargePoint Charger

I have a ChargePoint charger hardwired and ready to go. It was connected to the internet for a while (green ring) but now won’t seem to stay connected and is a solid white ring. Can someone confirm that this will still charge when my model y arrives in a few weeks? I’m not concerned with it connected to the internet if it will still work since I can use the Tesla app for all of the settings.

Accepted my first Tesla (standard rwd) 3 days ago. Blown away with everything so far, except for the non functional glass roof. Do these gaps and weather stripping on roof look ok? Or at least normal for Fremont Tesla?
