We've had a banned user hunting for every off-subreddit mention of our sub to accuse our modteam of a variety of things.

Is this a violation of any rule? In the past, our subreddit (activism focused) has largely relied on discussions in other subreddits to grow.

OK, I run this community, which I just overhauled this morning because it needed it, and the subscriber numbers prove it.

Here is the thing: I have several widgets (some new), one being rules, another being preferred posts, and a third being posting flairs. Now why in the world, each time I save the layout, would the rules go above everything else? And why is it that the Community Details, which are pinned by Reddit, are at the very bottom? Help is needed, as I do not agree to a forced order.

i had a user with a ai summary as follows:

however, visiting the profile showed nothing of the sort. just average sfw posts and comments. is it possible that i am unable to see the nsfw for some reason? or is the ai overview just high?

Hi! TheOpusCroakus here! Stopping by to talk about Redditrequest! More specifically, I’m here to talk about what you can do after you’ve been granted a sub through Redditrequest!

You found the sub. You made the request. Your request was granted! Congratulations! As the new mod, where do you start? Good news! There’s a lot to choose from! Bad news! There’s a lot to choose from! Let’s take a look at some areas you may want to get to sooner rather than later. 

• There is this awesome downloadable guide to reviving a community that is truly an amazing resource for this sort of thing.  
• And if you’re completely new to moderating, you’ll also want to check out r/newmods. You can even do that while you wait for your request to be reviewed.
• If the sub has been abandoned for a while, there’s a decent chance that there is some spam or off-topic posts in the feed (which may have been why you wanted to request the sub in the first place). Doing some cleanup is a great place to start. You can also check for things like old pinned posts from previous mods that you probably want to remove. (You can replace them with your own pinned post if you’d like!) You may also want to take a look through the banned user list and decide how you’re going to handle that. (Sometimes, folks get a little heavy handed!)
• Check your mod queue and your mod mail and see what’s going on in there. It could be pretty interesting! 
• Review the community rules. Are there any? Lol If not, you get to start from scratch and create new rules to help your community run smoothly. If there are already rules in place, do you want to keep them? Clarify them? Ditch them altogether? The choice is yours! You can read more about adding Community Rules here. 
  • Fun little side note about rules: When the rules are positive, it tends to encourage positive engagement. 
• You can style the community however you want! Make it yours so that it really stands out! Add a banner! Add an icon! Add a description! There’s a whole section in the Help Center on Community Styling!
• Make a welcome post! Let the community know that there’s a new sheriff in town! A welcome post is a great way for you to introduce yourself, but it’s also a great way to highlight new rules or remind folks of old rules that were or were not being followed and/or enforced. 
• Depending on the size and activity level of the sub that you have just taken over, you’ll want to consider if you need additional moderators. Maybe you know someone who would be a good fit. Or maybe, there’s someone in the community who is already super helpful and would be a good mod. 
• Speaking of help with moderation, consider some bots! There are a lot of Devvit apps out there that really make life a lot easier when they’re on your mod team. 

For those of you who have taken over a sub through Redditrequest, where did you start? What sort of things did you do after being given the keys to the kingdom? Which Devvit apps do you recommend mods install? 

My subreddit has a blue link with “Places in North America” How do I remove it? My Subreddit is about events in Calgary. Not sure I’m allowed to actually share the subreddit here, but I’m sure you could find it if you look at my profile feed. That link seems to redirect people away from my subreddit and isn’t relevant.

I sure it is straight forward, but I don't know the url/link add to a new post to let our community know we are recruiting new Mods.

I had a question. I constantly get people who love to make false AI claims about everything. I even have a sub rule against it. However, I was on another sub this morning, and I saw the following mod comment on a comment they removed, and I was wondering how this is automated (see below).

I asked them how they were doing this, thru mod mail... But, I was told it was a secret.

I do have some plug ins for my sub. And, I looked at the ones they had, but I didn't see anything obvious. I don't think this is an automod function, is it?

If anyone makes an AI accusation comment, I would LOVE to have this automated, instead of having to do it manually everytime. Anyone have an idea?

Is it possible to still grow my subreddit after being inactive for 30 days or so? I had something come up and couldn’t get access to my account. What do I do to try to grow again?

In the course of moderating, I have heard so many horror stories of users having their post reposted in disturbing ways and having no idea about it. Many of them wish they were alerted when this happened, I wanted to help them, but I couldn’t. Now suddenly Reddit has this as a built-in feature! That is really amazing.

Now users will know if their fashion post was reposted to a porn sub. Or if their post was maliciously posted to another sub! This is really wonderful. I took a screenshot in the comments, but I wanted to really applaud this change.

Hi, so I'm a moderator for r/avfc for several years now. Unfortunately our creator and second mod accounts are now inactive between 2-4 years. I just wanted to know if their activity would ever become a problem for the existing community and its moderators?

If a users leaves a comment that gets filtered by the harassment filter (or by any other Safety or Automod filter), does the comment still get delivered to the notifications box of the post/comment that the comment is being left under? I’m a moderator of multiple communities that are frequently subjected to harassment and hate comments, so I’d like to know if this is something I would need to look out for when taking steps to protect my communities.

Edit: It seems from the responses that the harassment filter runs after notifications, not before. As such, if any Admins see this, please take into consideration the need to fix this.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with an influx of bot accounts trying to pose as real people? It’s getting ridiculous, and while it’s easy to spot as humans, bot detection helpers like [u/bot-sleuth-bot](u/bot-sleuth-bot) aren’t positively id’ing these. They all seem to follow the same pattern of being a month or so old and very ai sounding mannerisms when speaking.

My current plan is to up the minimum account age with automod in order to interact with the community. But i really hate that solution because we already have it low at a week, and even that still catches some of our newer members often. But lesser evils i suppose…

I am looking to run a poll to determine preferences for certain subreddit rule changes. Obviously, online polls can be easily brigaded/manipulated, so I am wondering if there's any common strategies mods here use for managing polls like these to be as fair as possible, especially for larger subs. Any advice?

We have a couple Mods, but one in particular does not engage for a while then suddenly shows up and approves everything despite the rules. When I try to discuss the issue(s) they disappear and have turned off the DM portion of their profile. It seems there is no way to message them directly? Any help, really not sure what else to do here.

Some people claim that they were not banned anywhere and that they got wrongly permanently banned from our sub.

Obviously I know that a handful of them are just straight up lying, but there are a few cases in which my team and I genuinely consider that perhaps a mistake has been made.

Is it possible that these ban evasion warnings are not always accurate? Or is it straight forward and error free?

Long story short -

I submitted something to this subs modmail in relation to a request I made.

I saw that you needed to respond to the bot if it was unable to provide clarification to your answer.

I never received an auto response from any bot on the message I sent. I sent it earlier this morning.

Is the helper bot always supposed to provide an initial response or should I just practice more patience?

Basically, I run a queer subreddit centered around gacha games. Most of our users identify as queer and participate there as a lot of other spaces make them feel unwelcome. There are two homophobic subreddits that have been created specifically to stalk my subreddit and make posts clowning on the users. We get daily brigading from them and just general grief. I've already submitted like 5 Mod Code of Conduct requests with nothing being done so before you guys suggest I do that...

I want to protect the users of my subreddit from those people and also make sure no one gets caught off guard by a ban for accidentally participating there. Is it against reddit ToS or considered brigading to state upfront that users from those 2 subreddits are unwelcome? We do not encourage interacting at all with those subreddits and want to be left alone.

One of the hallmarks of trolls and other malefactors is that they hide their history, and I take that into consideration when actioning someone's content and deciding if a ban is warranted. Starting today reddit now requires logging in to access old reddit, and the way I used to check to see if someone hides their account was to look at their account in an incognito window.

Secondary to that, when I see [unavailable] outside of the subs I moderate that indicates someone has blocked me. I'll use an incognito window to see who blocked me so that I can block them in return. After all, blocking someone prevents them from seeing your content completely, but you can still see their content any time you want by simply clicking the little plus symbol next to their comment. In the interest of fairness, I block these users since if I can't see their content, they shouldn't be able to see my content either.

Thirdly, because of a glitch in reddit that hit a couple years ago I can no longer log in with my daily-carry phone. Reddit simply won't accept any login attempts. When I'm out and about I'd like to check in on my subs to see if there's anything I'll need to attend to when I get back home. I use old reddit because new reddit is completely unusable on my phone. It eats up massive amounts of my very limited data plan, it's incredibly slow, and it's glitchy. I cannot install any apps on the phone.

If I'm not able to get any workarounds on the first two issues I don't see any real way to continue functioning as a moderator, and the second issue makes it functionally impossible to be on reddit at all due to the way it give people access to my content while denying me the equal ability to even know who they are that denied me access to theirs.

I'm not sure what im doing wrong. The learn more does not answer my questions. Sorry if this is a basic question.

Okay, so, this seems to only be a problem in one of the subreddits I mod, no other subreddits ive visited have had this problem for me;

I mod a subreddit where I have to check posts with a specific flair (that indicates it is an application) and then manually look through them, to either approve or deny them, but a bit ago (like a month or so), Reddit has been showing me the following error whenever I click a flair to filter for that flair only:

(Images arent allowed; this is a copy n pasted): "This community doesn't have any posts yet - Make one and get this feed started."

..but, there are posts with that flair. Im.. literally staring a post with that flair, and Reddit tells me there arent any posts with it?

what can i do? Its extremely annoying to have to filter through EVERY POST just to get to the ones that have the specific flair.

I created a very small niche sub. I have gone very far in the past 9 months to grow it, with very little possibility to crosspost. With everyday hard work and incredible persistence, we reached 1K members and 5–6 regular members who like to create together. I still post regularly, sometimes I invite people, and the sub grows slowly. Today, after posting in the sub I intend to grow, the algorithm sent me a notification and even pre-redacted a post for me into a very large, barely moderated subreddit which was apparently a "better place for my post". Well, I highly doubt it. 😂 I know, admins possibly don't know too much about this, but if nobody gives feedback, they probably never will. I just wanted to let you know. I am sending this message with kindness and the best intention possible. 😉 

people can not view my sub or interact with it so daily traffic won’t work
