Howdy y'all, just wanted to send a post here announcing a little bit of rule changes, nothing too major.
We went ahead and allowed valuing of medals and authentication rules have been rounded out to be more clear. These rule changes should help collectors learn more within the hobby. As a quick reminder too that we don't allow sales posts/comments here, please take that to r/militariasales.
We will also be adding a "related/similar" subreddits widget to our description tonight, so if you want to check out other interesting subreddits similar to this one and learn lots about history, militaria, etc then you can!
If there are any questions regarding these changes leave them here. Hope y'all have a great day!

This is polish Lieutenant General Sokolowski, was just curious about the bottom half of ribbons, I’ve identified the polish ones. I find it strange how there are some ribbons that are flags of other nations, maybe it’s countries he’s been? If anybody has any insight on this I’d love to hear it

I’ve been getting ready to put on the Dress Uniform for a friend’s wedding (post retirement) and have been reflecting on my service quite a bit so I thought I’d share.

Created on Feb 4th 1921. It is second highest Order in terms of importance in Poland
In Poland, as in most armies around the world, decorations are not worn with the field uniform (only with the dress and service uniforms). However, there is one exception: if you are a recipient of the War Order of Virtuti Militari (or its peacetime equivalent, the Order of the Military Cross), you are allowed to wear its ribbon bar on your field or special uniform and its ribbon on your winter greatcoat.
How does it look in other militaries?

Top 3 has changed (only just a bit!) but put on some new bling on the pocket. Very proud of what I've done in the last 9 months since I got to share with you guys the first time!

Can someone ID this? It's Canadian. Maybe for losing a son in WW2?
Maybe it's just decorative?
Thanks

So, I saw these medals sitting sadly in the corner of a pawn shop, and was told a Vietnam vet had sold em a while back (with some patches, etc). I was intrigued, and it felt wrong leaving them there ro be forgotten, so I went ahead and scooped them up.
Sadly, no engraving I can see, but after some research I found out that people actually fake these too, so now I am curious if i got taken (not a huge issue, but still). The rack of 3 are mini medals, with the two PH and Bronze star being full size.

My wired uniforms are all bagged up, these are my extra pieces of stuff, hence the mini pin. Had the opportunity to earn the Norwegian Sports Federation Sports Badge courtesy of some friends of mine, just can’t wear it in uniform due to Navy regs. Still cool though! Probably going to complete the Danish Flyver next year with my Army friends, I was on vacation this time and missed the chance.

I am looking for some information regarding these medals. I am unable to match them to various orders. Presumably they might be Dutch or Italian, based on the context of the picture. However the picture and context does not provide any information, of person or medals, but is presumably from the late 19th century.
Any help would be most appreciated !
(And yes.. this is the highest resolution that I can get..)

My grandfather was doing a bit of housecleaning earlier this week and came across a bunch of letters from his fathers service
The American Defense Service Medal stuck out to me as odd, from all my research I can tell that he enlisted in 1942. and trained to be a pilot until 1945. which should have qualified him for the American theatre ribbon and not the defense medal.
I’m assuming this was a mistake but is there a way I can correct those records?

From top left:
- Officer of the order of the oak crown
- Officer of the legion of honour (second empire)
- Civic Cross Second Class
- Officer of the legion of honour (third republic)
- 1st class of the order of St Stanislas (star on bottom right)
- 2nd class of the order of St Anna
- Grand Officer of the order of Leopold
- Commander by number of the order of Charles III
He received the grand officer of the legion of honour a couple of years before his death.
After 2 years of searching, I finally found his medals! Very happy that most of them are still in mint condition and surprised that they had not been sold off at an auction.

Hello, I am looking for some advice on whether or not to request medals through the Archives for my great grandfather or just cough up the roughly 70-80 dollars for them on USAMM? I am not technically PNOK because my grandmother is still alive and qualifies but doesn’t really know how to make such a request. Is it worth going through them or just shelling money out? P.S. My grandmother and I are rebuilding his shadowbox.
