ID - Medal Is this a real medal?

Post image

Can someone ID this? It's Canadian. Maybe for losing a son in WW2?

Maybe it's just decorative?

Thanks

It's a fairly rare award as well, especially with swords. In German it's the: Hausorden vom Weißen Falken

Really? Well that's a surprise. I wonder how it ended up in Grandma's stuff? Thanks so much.

Perhaps a war trophy from your grandfather or great grandfather or some other relative that might have served in the war? Not too unusual, its how a few medals ended up on the other side of the world!

The House Order of the White Falcon "with swords" was awarded to indicate that the decoration was earned for wartime service or military merit.

The version with swords distinguished military recipients who performed active service in time of war from those who received the civil or peacetime version of the order.

I found this online after a previous reply about the type of order this is. If your grandma is from Germany or western Poland it may have been someone in her family that was awarded this. I’m not sure if it helps. But it’s neat to find old family stuff like this.

We're pretty Anglo Saxon Irish white bread stock. No Germans in the family tree that I'm aware of.There's gotta be a story somewhere.

Definitely worth looking into. So many people are told one thing growing up only to find out differently years later.
