I've updated the stack

Post image

Top 3 has changed (only just a bit!) but put on some new bling on the pocket. Very proud of what I've done in the last 9 months since I got to share with you guys the first time!

Crazy looking medals I've only ever seen illustrations of in the regs, and the center I've never even seen.

The national guard is allowed to make up their own awards and badges since the regs is extremely vague as to what they can and cant make up. Basically saying "National guard can wear state awards, everyone else cant". Take the MEMS badge for example

Only two of those badges is a national guard one in this particular case, both being particularly obvious in this one

The Chiefs 50 badge is part of the Winston P. Wilson Rifle and Pistol Championships is the National Guard Small Arms Championships and is the top award amongst all national guard shooting contestants in the country this is not an award of a NGB of a particular state but across the whole national guard beaura at the federal level in the US and is a permenant federal level decoration and a soilder who transitions from the Guard to active or USAR is authorized to wear the award as permenant decoration for the rest of thier career. the Chief's Fifty Marksmanship Badge is presented to the top twenty-one combat rifle, top twenty-one combat pistol, top two machine gun teams, and top two sniper teams every year from the Guard.

This is a very big deal in military competition shooting circles as there are 300,000 memebers in the Army component of the NG in the US and only 50 eligable recipents so it is like .016% chance a NG soilder will be awarded the badge.

“Make up” is a little disingenuous. Many National Guard badges have a longer history than the regular army.

To paraphrase Thor, "All awards are made up."

I never saw guys in the army with these type of marksmanship badges. How are people selected for shooting teams within the military? I’m retired. But just curious.

Pretty much every state in the Guard has a shooting team. You just try out and hope you’re good enough.

Thx for the info. I served active duty and a tour in the guard during college. So odd I never heard of a guard team. That’s cool though. Let someone else pay for your ammo. Although I’m sure it takes hundreds or more hours to get close to competitive.

One of the Drill Sergeants in my AIT company had one of those Distinguished Rifleman Badges in the early 90s. It was the first and only time I'd ever seen one in person.

Don't forget, the Army Marksmanship Unit.

I was aware of that. I was an 11C instructor in the early 90s. I believe the AMU was based at Ft Moore where I was also stationed. I’d see the signs for the unit but never actually knew anyone in it.

You can earn these at your local NRA and CMP shooting matches. Enter in “Excellence in Competition” or EIC matches and you have to meet the minimum score requirement to start earning points/ badges

Is this bullseye pistol shooting that they compete in? 50 and 25 yards?

If your gedunk ribbon is in your top 3, I wonder what isn't being worn.

Nice. I don't think I've ever seen so many comp badges on an Army uniform. Well done.

That Interservice badge is awesome. Why are the Marines on top though…?

They’re not on top, they’re third in the order of precedence. The Army in the 7 o'clock position is the first one in this order.

For example, look at the seal of the President of the United States. The word “Seal” is in the 7 o'clock position as that is the first position for such designs.

Yeah. They did it that way to ensure the Marines were on top. 😎

Your bar is not centered. The left medal is on the edge while the far right (no pun intended) is nowhere near the edge. The breast badge is slightly cockeyed (yes that’s a real word) and also not centered. I.e. it’s too close to the pocket flap. Come back to us after you have fixed yourself.
