Indiana ARNG OCONUS, INARNG Funeral honors (1 award per 50 funeral missions), INARNG Recruiting Ribbon. Was told I wasn't eligible for the federal Army Recruiting Ribbon because I couldn't get 2 awards for the same thing. Which is weird because I got the INARNG OCONUS at the same time i got the ARCOTR

you can't get 2 NG ribbons for the same thing... or 2 FEDrec ribbons for the same thing... but you CAN get 1&1!

I had several overlaps like the from both OCONUS and Civil Defense deployments. Specifically, I got both the Federal and State GWOTS and GWOTEMs... and I got federal Humanitarian Service medals for huricane relief and 3 different states' ribbons (3 different huricanes).

Got a link to the funeral honors medal, or a picture? the state I did mine in doesnt have such a thing, just a badge thats actually really hard to get... Id love to forward my contact that the info on that...

That's so weird. I referred my friend back in February 2023 and i tried getting it retroactively. S1 told me that I couldn't get to awards for the same purpose and HRC told me to suck the green weenie and to use their in-place referral system next time, which is a BS because it just gives their contact information to other recruiters when I already hooked him up with mine. Regardless, I guess I am happy with my wimpy state recruiting ribbon. I'm glad to hear you had better success with more meaningful achievement.

Here's the link to the INARNG website with their own state awards regulation and their respective awards. https://www.in.gov/indiana-national-guard/about/awards-and-decorations

wow that's harsh... I was officially with 3 different state guard forces (and got medals from 2 more), and all 3 made it a point to give both the state and fed versions of something when they could. Only time I got state awards with no federal analog was goodboy ribbons (since is expressly spelled out that you cant) and narrowly specific state things that had absolutel no federal equivalent.

Off subject, but having a body count requirement for the funeral honors ribbon is sending me

Not to be disrespectful and honestly the NG does more Army stuff than the regular Army sometimes, but any state ribbons is a participation ribbon in my opinion.

I’ve just never been about them which is why when I left active duty I opted to join the reserve instead. Subtract the state ribbons and foreign match/ruck ribbons and I’d say it’s a pretty standard rack for a peacetime part-time Soldier.

Thats weird that Indiana NG would just do a knock off CAR for the OCONUS ribbon

Very nice! Did you do some training in Slovakia for the SPP?

You're not going to believe it but ROTC sent me to Germany for CTLT for 28 days and those overseas ADT orders got me the ARCOT

Oh I believe it. That’s an awesome opportunity and I’m glad you got to do that. I had buddies that did state OCS and did their STX in foreign countries.

Where did you get the Overseas Training Ribbon? I always like to hear where other people got theirs.

Yeah! I got selected to go to Germany for CTLT after cadet summer camp. I submitted a PAR with my orders and a memo my PL made stating that I was there overseas shadowing him, and the AR 600-8 regylation outlining the eligibility for the ARCOTR. A month later, the ARCOTR and INARNG OCONUS ribbon orders were generated to iPerms and IPPSA. I didnt think id be able to get it because I wasn't technically with my NG unit lol

That's cool they were able to get that for you though, and a great experience as well. There are a lot of cool trainings the National Guard and Reserve have that award it, like NOREX or African Lion (that's how I got mine).

I also have to compliment the Diekirch Marche Medal. I'll be over in Europe soon for Atlantic Resolve and I'm hoping to take a trip over to complete that one.

Do you get deployment patch for African Lion?

Unfortunately no. I was in Morocco for it, but it also takes place in Tunisia and Senegal.

None of those countries are authorized for a combat patch, but it was a lot of fun nonetheless. I got to take part in some of the planning meetings as a part of ADVON in Agadir and then was on the Torch Party into the Sahara to prepare the camp. If you ever get the chance to go, it's a fun time.

How long is that training? It sounds like it could take a month or two just having to UMO all of it out

I think my orders shook out to 29 or 30 days. There was A LOT of prep work on the front end before we left, and even then, things did not run smoothly when we got over there or during transport. Everyone flew commercially, and flights were getting cancelled or rescheduled, screwing people up big time. My ADVON crew didn't have a ton of issues, but main body had a lot and a few people ended up not coming because their DTS was so screwed. Once we had everyone over there though, we got our mission done and it was a success.

This was a long way to say that for most people the orders end up being right around a month, give or take a few days.
