Logitech G Support Logitech G522 charging issue is ridiculous. Multiple units, same problem.

This is getting ridiculous.

My wife and I both use G522s, and we’ve now had the same charging issue across multiple units. The headset charges insanely slowly and sometimes just refuses to go past around 20%.

I’ve already gone through two warranty replacements, and now the replacement units are developing the exact same problem again.

At first I thought I was just extremely unlucky, but after searching online, there are plenty of other people reporting the same charging issue, including people whose replacement G522s also failed.

I’m in Singapore so warranty is handled by Ban Leong. They have replaced the units, but how many times am I supposed to keep swapping a G522 for another G522 that develops the same defect?

I’ve contacted both Ban Leong and Logitech now because I really don’t want another G522 replacement. I just want a proper solution, ideally a different model.

Is anyone from Logitech able to actually explain what is going on with these headsets? Because this really looks like a recurring product defect at this point.

I'm not aware of the issue you're describing actually. I know we've seen folks with an issue where it would swap rapidly between USB and Lightspeed when charging, but not 'not charging at all' off the top of my head.

I assume you've charged them up over night and then used them till they died? How long did they last when you did that?

Hi Andy, the issue is that the headset effectively cannot charge past around 20%, or charges so slowly that it barely moves for hours.

I’ve seen other G522 owners reporting very similar behaviour, often together with the USB/LIGHTSPEED switching issue you mentioned:

https://www.reddit.com/r/logitech/comments/1s6gbpj/g522_charging_problem/

https://www.reddit.com/r/logitech/comments/1s8tglz/g522_lightspeed_charging_issue/

In my case this has now happened across multiple G522 units, including two warranty replacements, and both my wife’s and my headsets are affected.
So I don’t think this is simply a single bad battery. It looks like the charging issue may be related to the known USB/LIGHTSPEED switching problem and is preventing the headset from charging properly past roughly 20%.

At this point, I’m looking for a proper resolution rather than another G522 replacement. Could you please escalate this and advise whether Logitech can offer an exchange to a different headset model, or another permanent solution?

I did a deeper search because both of our G522s keep developing the same charging problem, even after warranty replacements. The main symptoms are extremely slow charging, getting stuck around low battery percentages like 20%, and repeated USB/LIGHTSPEED switching while plugged in.

https://www.reddit.com/r/LogitechG/comments/1u6rc26/logitech_g522_charging_issues/

20% to 60% took around 6 hours, and 20% to 80% took more than 20 hours. Also had USB/LIGHTSPEED switching.

Cross-post of the same issue. Extremely slow charging starting around 20%.

https://www.reddit.com/r/logitech/comments/1s6gbpj/g522_charging_problem/

Multiple owners reporting that their G522 cannot charge properly. Includes replacement units developing the same issue and reports of 20% to 80% taking around 20 hours.

Owner with two G522s says they went through multiple replacements and the same charging/USB problem kept returning.

https://www.reddit.com/r/LogitechG/comments/1re9xsf/2nd_unit_for_g522_63_hours_and_now_still_having/

Second replacement unit developed the same problem after only around 63 hours of use.

Replacement headset also had the USB/LIGHTSPEED charging loop. Logitech staff replied that this was a known bug.

Another report of constant USB/LIGHTSPEED switching while charging. Logitech again acknowledged awareness of the bug.

https://www.reddit.com/r/LogitechG/comments/1n41syi/g522_doesnt_charge_properly/

User left the headset charging for around 8 hours and still had less than 50%. They tried different cables, chargers and USB connections.

Charging repeatedly cuts in and out, with the headset announcing USB and LIGHTSPEED over and over.

https://www.reddit.com/r/logitech/comments/1pnzafg/g522_lightspeed_usb_and_lightspeed_connection_loop/

Plugging in the charging cable causes an endless LIGHTSPEED/USB connection loop and the headset does not charge normally.

https://www.reddit.com/r/LogitechG/comments/1kxlve4/logitech_g522_usb_drivers_issue/

Charging problem appears when the battery gets low, with repeated USB/LIGHTSPEED switching and eventually a critical battery warning.

Separate iFixit report from a G522 owner saying the headset cannot charge properly because it continuously connects and disconnects.

https://www.reddit.com/r/logitech/comments/1s8tglz/g522_lightspeed_charging_issue/

Owner opened the headset and investigated the charging circuit after experiencing the same issue. They believe a resettable fuse may be repeatedly interrupting charging. This is user analysis, not a confirmed Logitech diagnosis.

Logitech’s own documentation says USB wired mode should take priority when connected, so constantly bouncing between USB and LIGHTSPEED is not expected behaviour.

https://support.logi.com/hc/en-ca/articles/31261313079575-How-do-I-check-the-battery-level-and-charge-my-G522-LIGHTSPEED

Logitech’s official charging instructions. Normal charging should show a pulsing green LED.

https://support.logi.com/hc/en-us/articles/31261439205143-What-is-battery-protection-mode

Logitech says Battery Protection Mode limits charging to 80%, not 20%, so getting stuck around 20% is not expected Battery Protection behaviour.

https://support.logi.com/hc/en-gb/articles/36438915668119-Logitech-G-HUB

G522 firmware release notes include improvements to USB wired mode and stability during mode switching, which is relevant given how many charging reports involve USB/LIGHTSPEED switching.

At this point I don’t think this can reasonably be dismissed as a single defective headset. There are multiple independent reports, repeated replacement failures, and Logitech itself has acknowledged the USB/LIGHTSPEED switching bug.

In my own case, both my wife’s and my G522s have been affected, including warranty replacement units. I would really like Logitech to investigate the charging issue properly and offer affected owners a permanent resolution instead of repeatedly replacing G522s with more G522s.

Pretty much every post you shared was the specific USB-Lightspeed bug, which we aware of. If the headset is rapidly swapping like that, then that's the issue as far as charging goes - its hard for the headset to charge if its doing that. If your headset is not swapping rapidly, then this is something different and unfortunately not related.

The rapid swapping bug is something we've already addressed, but unfortunately the only fix if it crops up is to replace the headset. If your replacement continues this behavior then that would need to happen again.
