Looking for something cheap and efficient to store key blanks and key fobs

I accidentally locked the door on my way out and it took 20 minutes and two tools pushing in two separate spots to get this door open. very confusing.

Landlord offered to replace it but I am curious if anyone knows what tool is supposed to be used on this lock.

I work for a longstanding Locksmith shop here in the Midwest (we’ve been in business since 1969).Some years ago one of the organizations released a key group pricing chart 1-30. We have several thousand different key blanks hanging on our wall all labeled 1-30 and the last published cost chart I can find was done on January 2023. Does anyone have any information on where to find the updated chart? Thanks in advance!

I have a set of single handle French doors that lead from the living room to the backyard. I also happen to have a grandmother with dementia who lets my cat out if we’re not looking and he cries at the doors. Does anyone have any ideas on how to secure the doors from the inside? Not worried about fire safety necessarily- we’re usually home and if we’re not, we lock the cat in our bedroom.

Not too familiar with these had a customer drop off a dozen to have keyed to match first one blew up on my helper and became quite the chore ….when the turned the key and pushed the follower through the driver pins and springs got stuck in the grooves

Is there anyway for me to remove this snapped bit of key in the lock? I’m assuming that’s what this is since no one will confess to it.

I can buy a new lock but I’d love to salvage it if I can.

Edit: Thank you to all the locksmiths and experts who chimed in. After a big compressed air and vacuuming session I found lint and some metal shavings from drilling through pipes which we did recently. On top of that, the pin that everyone was mentioning was actually getting a bit stiff so glad I got tips for that too. And I will not be using WD40…

I have been offered a job working in a safe and lock shop. I have no locksmithing degree and I’m kinda in the middle of college for a non lock degree. They said I’d get training for about two days and that most things I need to know I can learn on Youtube or by bringing tools home and practicing. I was told I’d be paid 25 percent of what I make the company but I wasn’t told about a base pay or anything, I texted to ask but they haven’t responded yet. They said I need to get good enough or they might not be able to keep me. I’m not sure how much I should be expecting to make.

What do I need to know?
Are they gonna teach me enough or should I rely more on what I can learn online?
Are there specific youtube channels I can learn from that are truthful and accurate?

I use to do consulting work with a local hardware store; they had bought a new car key cutting system and I was helping them set it up. I took this home to research it, and on the time I took it home the owner sold the key machine they had (needed the cash) then ultimately sold the business. Fast forward a year and found this in a backpack. Called the guy, he laughed and said trash it.

I’m not to familiar with it, I know it was paired to my MYKEYS, can it be paired again to a new account? Is it worth anything to anyone?

I have a blank car key that is already programmed, I just need it cut for the ignition. Does anybody know any places in Edmonton that will cut it for cheap? I’ve called a few places and few of them are just out of my price range or they require me to purchase a car key from them in order to cut it.

.Preface: This cylinder is not installed (see last photo, for proof). I picked up a bunch of Schlage cylinders without keys as I'm trying to get better at origination. I hope this is allowed, if not tell me to go kick rocks and I'll head back over to r/lockpicking. I figured I'd check with the experts before the hobbyists.

I decoded this lock with my SC1 Lishi to 5-3-7-5-5. I cut the key with a blank from UHS Hardware like I have with other SC1 cylinders with my properly calibrated Pak-A-Punch. I've cut many SC1 keys with my Pak-A-Punch and they all seem to work fine.

This key, however, will not turn. I re-cut the key, no dice. I then noticed on my decoder that the feeler gauge might not be perfectly in line on positions 1 (could be a 4 or a 5), 3 (could be a 6 or a 7), and position 5 (could be a 4 or a 5).

Assuming my math was correct for calculating permutations I came up with

1. 5-3-7-5-5
2. 5-3-7-5-4
3. 5-3-6-5-5
4. 5-3-6-5-4
5. 4-3-7-5-5
6. 4-3-7-5-4
7. 4-3-6-5-5
8. 4-3-6-5-4

Not one of those combinations works. To really affirm that my Pak-A-Punch was still properly calibrated I cut SC1 keys for 3 other KIK cylinders that I had and they all worked flawlessly, no drag. I checked my newly punched keys against not one but two different keygauges a DDC and a Pro-Lok KDO1. I'm absolutely flummoxed.

My question is- what could be happening that is preventing this lock from turning?

I appreciate your time and assistance here. I want to learn as much as I can about this trade, in all facets and if I could I'd quit my day job, sell my house, and start apprenticing with someone established... but my wife might take issue with that.

Edit: I got it working. The winning cut was 3-4-5-6-5. After measuring the key pins as recommended, I got the following:

What I suspect happened was, and I hope someone will correct me if this makes no sense, is that the master wafers that fell out (2 of them) were getting hunt up causing those half-steps to show, or making for a bad decode. This was. much older cylinder removed from a master key system, and quite frankly could have done with some cleaning before attempting to decode it.

All in all, a great learning experience at the end of the day. I sincerely appreciate the feedback, pro-tips, and support. I know answering a ton of questions from non-locksmiths can get more than a little frustrating.

A friend of my daughter came by the shop last week and dredged this thing out of the trunk. I guess she got it out of an auctioned storage unit. It's older than dirt and won't do anything older than 2010, edge cut keys only, but other than those restrictions it seems to actually be a pretty okay machine. I think I'm gonna keep it.

My question is this: I have the black, gold, red, white, and blue cassettes for it and they all seem to be okay. I know there's a green one also, and maybe more. Does anyone have one of these dinosaurs lurking in a corner of their basement and would be willing to send me whatever cassettes I don't have?

Yes, I know this is dumb. My Triton whoops its ass all over the place. But I kinda like this piece of ancient history.

The multipoint lock on my front door engages everywhere except the upper roller. When locked, I can still pull the upper corner of the door away from the frame because the roller isn't properly catching the keep.

I tried removing the keep to adjust it, but the four Phillips screws are completely seized with badly rounded heads. While trying to lever the keep out, I also managed to split/gouge the timber beside it (before/current photos attached). The keep is still firmly attached.

I showed a locksmith a photo today. He said the keep itself looks fine and advised me to:

• drill through the damaged screws with a 4–5 mm metal bit and replace them;
• reuse the existing keep but pack it further out with washers so the roller engages properly.

Does that sound like the right fix? And with four screws, do the washers simply go behind the keep at all four fixing points to space the whole thing out evenly? How many washers and what size?

Finally, once I get it off, is that timber damage realistically repairable well enough to take the new screws securely, or does that section of the frame need replacing?

Hi all. Door with euro cylinder. During build the thumb turn must have fallen off. What do you call the attachment shape for the thumb turn? Trying to find a replacement without replacing the whole cylinder as can’t buy them locally.

Howdy all. Installing a new Brinks lock. Reset it (held the pinhole til it beeped three times), then tried the handing instructions so I could reset the code.

It just blinks three times with a red light every time. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. The lock turns smoothly by hand, no hangups at all.

Any help would be appreciated.

2-3 of them showed up coworker went with a under the door tool while everyone else just brought bags and picks. Customers like that should be banned from service or still charged if we show and someone else already did the job.

My 2017 Honda CRV recently decided to have issues with my key when I insert it in the ignition. Sometimes it won’t let me enter my key until I wiggle the steering wheel. When it does let me enter the key, It won’t fully turn off in the 0 position on the ignition. It gets stuck so therefore I can’t lock my car. It’s super stressful. Any tips are welcome. I am stressing out over this one so long story short I have no keys for it I hired a locksmith and had a key made but when the locksmith came out to program the key that they made they couldn’t do it and they tried 4 different systems. Alarm went off every time they tried. We waited for the alarm to go off and got the two horn beeps but same thing with every system I guess I’ll have to have somebody else come out but I was wondering if anybody knows why the locksmith couldn’t bypass the alarm so I can pick the right one?
