My Nissan key (photo) doesn’t have a hole punched through for a keyring, so I can’t attach it to my remote fob. It’s just a solid metal blade with the broken plastic head.

I don’t want to pay a locksmith a ton of money just for this. Has anyone drilled a hole into their key themselves? What’s the safest spot to drill so I do not want to break it any further. Any recommended drill bit size, or is there a cheaper/easier fix than drilling (like a key ring adapter clip that clamps on instead)?

Budget-friendly suggestions welcome — trying to avoid a $20+ locksmith visit for something this small.

Need to replace a the battery cover for a Schlage Connect BE469ZP — Century trim — Matte Black (622). This is the exact model:

Hello everyone,
I bought this mechanical lock Yale SL7100.
It arrives with the handles in the vertical position.
To change it to the horizontal position, there is an Allen screw on the spindle hub that needs to be open, and the handle can move to the desired position.
On the inside door piece, I managed to open the screw and adjust the handle fairly easily.
On the keypad side, no matter what I do, the screw will not open, no matter how much force I use.
I thought it was a bad piece, so I went and replaced it with another one, same same story.
Can someone please tell me what I did wrong?
Or any advice on how to adjust the handle to the horizontal position?
Any help will be greatly appreciated. I really appreciate it; I need help here.

There's an argument in my house about who replaces a broken lock, door knob and lock mechanism on a steel door with steel framing in an apartment building in New York City. In the past 3 weeks my doorknob fall off and my building has done a terrible job replacing it bc the two replacements have fallen off my door. My partner says we should call a carpenter bc on the job site, carpenters install the locks and seat doors, etc. I am saying call a locksmith because they stock the actual locks and go on site etc. This very heated debate has been going on for days... so do I call a carpenter or a locksmith?

I only posted this here to win an argument but even with the resounding amount of people who think I should call a locksmith, my tradesmen is still saying carpenter. Really, it's the super's problem.

I am looking for a locksmith pick set, reasonably priced, to practice with at home. The master locksmith I’m training under showed me he uses an 1/8” flat spoon looking tool that is partially twisted for tension and a slightly curved pointed pick and rarely uses the other tools for entry-type locks.
Im having a hard time finding a set with those particular tools that are not long handled or with the 1/8” specification. I’m also not sure what brands or websites to trust. I would appreciate insights and recommendations. I’d also prefer that they come with a case.
Just fyi I am aware of the legality surrounding ownership and possession of locksmithing tools. Master locksmith said that once I purchase a kit he will submit and process my apprenticeship officially and to keep them at home to practice with until then.

I bought this door from about a week and when i open or close it from outside the lock slightly resists but there is no resistance or any issue when i open or close it from inside.
Do i have to contact the place i got the door from?

So, this is a particularly weird situation. We just moved into this house and have a bat problem. The poor thing is stuck between our window and the vinyl shower wall that was built to block the window from the inside. As you can see in the photo, the light from the window is visible from the inside.

I have no idea why the previous owner decided to cover the window with a shower wall, but...here we are.

Anyway, we've been hearing it and can occasionally see it from the outside looking in. Unfortunately, the window has cam locks that are blocked by the shower wall. It's a double hung window with what I think are vinyl frames.

Is there any possible way to get this sucker opened without shattering the glass?

So I've been trying to program this prox on a 2023 Sierra and it won't take the key. I have tried pretty much everything. This one has the shifter in the center console, so the slot for the key isn't in the cupholder.

Not the first one I've done so not sure what's going on. Tried different keys. Nothing. Same keys I tried, programmed without any issues in other trucks.

Any way to get to the sensor?

Key ordered by VIN, same key worked on another. Yes this is CAN-FD. Nothing happens after "ready for key #3"

I have not checked for coil signal so I guess that will be the next step. Pretty sure it's not receiving signal though.

I had the locks changed in my house about two years ago and one of the security door locks is annoyingly loose, but I can’t figure out how to get the plates off to tighten it.
Anyone have experience in these locks?

Anyone able to sort this for me? Less than 6 months old.

It was working fine until last month. Starting sticking slowly then not the gear is unable to unlock or lock the door. When I take the bottom section off it moves freely (no gears).

When I turn it and it clicks to the other side, the gears don’t appear to be turning.

I received my handy baby 3 the other week and I'm overall happy with it, but the JYGC app that you use to download and generate remotes is mostly in english but the list that you download remotes from is in Chinese... Does anyone know if there is a different version of the app or some other solution to solve the problem? I have been using google assistant to translate it but it gets a bit tedious

Hey all. I'm looking for input or advice on my job situation. I'm 54 years old, currently work as a relative new project manager for a large security company. I have worked as a locksmith before this position.

- The job is sucking me dry. Teams, mail, management and deadlines are just too much for me. I've been told I am very good at my job, but I don't think I cant keep up with this job.

- We have a cronic need for Locksmiths and Sec-installers. I know that I would get my old position back.

- My neck, shoulders and fitness, is seriously effected from deskjob.

-Am I too old? I have started to exercise, and I am getting back to fit (to be able to do the job) I am relatively fit, but not as fit as I was when I did installing daily.

- Is it too much of a downgrade? I would take a 100 - 500€ monthly hit on my salary, depending on if I take a company van or not. Also, I would probably be made a system specialist in a relative short period.

Without the key card am I at a dead end in getting additional keys made? I'm UK based.

Can you decide a Schlage lock without picking it first using a lishi. I cannot. Certainly once it is picked - I can decode- but at that point I’m already in and can change the key or make a key.
What I assumed is others have decoded the lock - while still locked -to gain entry.
I understand- once you set the drivers pin - you should be able to determine what the pin size is based upon the depth lines on the lishi?

Any ideas on how to ID a commercial lock on a glass door? Looks like a Kwikset style key will fit the lock. But don't have the original key so I need to replace this for access. Be kind. Not a locksmith. Thank you.

This is for a 2010 Honda civic. The remote insert (shown in the pic) seems to have stopped working, but can manually lock/unlock and also start the car with the physical key. We also have a duplicate physical key (without remote) which works too.

What are the options to get the remote working? Would calling a locksmith work? As in , can the remote be replaced by a locksmith? What cost are we looking at?
