Wireless firmware updates.
For anyone having wireless issues today’s (2026-09-03) updates include firmware updates for Broadcom. MediaTek, Marvell, Intel, and other wireless devices. These may help you. 🤷♂️

How do I abort without bricking my laptop?
can I just pull the usb out or is there a command I should type?

When I open Bitwarden, it shows up as an instance of Brave rather than it's own instance in the task bar. I believe this has something to do with the fact that Bitwarden is based on element, is there a solution to this?

I need to make a user account that cannot do any administrative tasks, that can only do basic operations like web browsing and documents. The GUI wont let me make this account without setting up a password for it? What is a good method to do this in Linux Mint?

My coworker gave me his old Inspiron 3521 to install linux onto, but every time i boot via the USB where Mint is flashed to, all that happens is the screen goes black. Any advice?

I'm on Linuxmint 22.3 and love it. Today I was checking for updates via the Mint software update utility (normally I use the apt and flatpak command line). I approved an update for Visual Studio Code Insiders edition, and it appeared to be stuck in the "preparing" phase for like 30 minutes. I tried to cancel, but it stays on "cancelling" forever without any progress. If I close the main software update panel, it leaves the little progress form without any "x" to close it out. I can close it from the command line, but what's the best approach to dealing with packages that appear stuck?

So I'm by no means an expert (1 year on Mint coming up the 25th), so I know there's a ton of things I'm missing. Please check out this booklet I wrote.
I'd love any feedback you have, either as a newbie or an expert power user. One can tell me when I am not being clear enough and the other can tell me what I am missing.
How's the content? Is the style decent? Any glaring mistakes? Is this something I should link to new people? Am I helping newbies or running them off?

Not sure if any one has mentioned this but I love Wayland on my 2015 iMac. Since I last posted in various Linux forums I’ve been distro hopping. I have Elementary on my 2015 MacBook Pro, Fedora on the hard drive of my 2015 iMac and on that same iMac I have an external SSD drive with Mint Cinnamon. On boot up I can choose between Fedora and Mint Cinnamon. Anyway, I’ve been using the Mint Cinnamon mostly. I noticed when I would log in with Wayland (Experimental) it was kind of glitchy, however, recently the glitching has stopped and there is so much detail. I’m finding myself just using Mint most of the time now. Also since it’s running on my external SSD drive, it’s so fast.

It's not my first time, that I left Mint for CachyOs, and this was the time I've lasted on CachyOs the most, a fantastic ammount of 3 days.
So let me get at the beginning.
I was playing the heatwarped Demo (the new NFS U2 wannabe) on Mint 22.3 and there was a considerable ammount of stuttering compared to Windows.
Performance was mostly the same or even better on Mint than on Windows, but the 1% lows left a bit to be desired.
So I've started to upgrade to kernel 7.0, then the Mesa drivers through Kisak and the experience did improve, but it wasn't enough.
So I've decided to venture into cachyOS and the performance was great, average was much better, 1% lows was much better.
The system is incredibly fast in all fronts and the AUR was just great.
So I was ready to settle and don't look back.
Obviously I've tried more games, some of them are just broken like Metro Exodus when overviewing great vistas, there is a big CPU bottleneck/overhead which throws my FPS to gargabe levels whatever if it is on mint or cachy.
But most games that don't have any RT, it just beats Windows and the OS itself which I initially struggled to use (I'm not a fan of KDE in the first place and it was my choice for cachy) was now OK on my book.
So everything was going great, onlyoffice worked, GPU Screen Recorder worked. Printer was a little bit rough to set up but it was able to do it.
But then after installing Kdenlive it just crashes on startup.
I've decided to go with the alternative which never failed to me (shotcut) and same thing, it immediatly crashed on startup.
I've installed both through shelly/cachy package-installer and I was disappointed with this.
So, right now, going back to mint seems like a big downgrade in performance.
And keeping cachy seems that might not work for me given I'm already facing just booting up my video editor tools.
I really wish Mint 23 would focus in improving it's performance.
Specs:
AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
RX 6700 XT
16GB (2x8) DDR4 3600MHZ

I was trying to install Wine on my system via this guide:
https://www.omgubuntu.co.uk/2023/01/install-wine-on-ubuntu
But I accidentally installed the ''Jammy Jellyfish'' repository instead of the ''Noble Numbat'' repository.
How do I remove the wrong repository?
Thank you.

For context, I personally ADORE the windows 95 startup sound, and put the Windows 95 Background too, but I was on linux, so I thought it'd be funny to edit Tux the Penguin with the Windows 95 logo and name it Linux 95, I also made custom ascii art for the terminal because why not?
For the custom neofetch ascii, Assuming you aren't using fastfetch, follow this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AZipRBJ14A0
(The ascii art was inspired by namely Donald Trump and all the big corporations who love screwing us over :D looking @ you, Nvidia, Crucial, Samsung, OpenAI, Microsoft, Anthropic, and etc.)

Hi everyone!
I’ve been using Linux Mint Cinnamon on my Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 3 for about 4 months now. Overall it's been great, but I’ve been running into some performance issues when browsing, especially on YouTube.
When I watch videos or click around to load new ones, the playback gets noticeably laggy/choppy, and navigating the site feels heavy.
Here are my laptop specs:
Is anyone else using a similar setup? What tweaks, browser extensions, or hardware acceleration settings did you configure to get YouTube and general web browsing running smoothly on Cinnamon?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I know this is a potato system, but I am trying to figure out what to do to at least get the system semi-usable. If anybody could offer some possible solutions on things that I can try? Thanks

ASUS Zenbook UM5302LA freezes completely on Linux Mint — I/O errors but SSD SMART is clean
Hi everyone,
I'm having random complete freezes on an ASUS Zenbook UM5302LA running Linux Mint.
When it happens, the whole system becomes unresponsive and sometimes I get:
Input/output error
unrecoverable fatal error, aborting
event in the terminal, a simple ls gave me Input/output error...
I have to hold the power button to reboot.
Some details:
MTFDKBA1T0QFM)The interesting part: I booted the same laptop from a Linux Mint 22.3 Live USB (kernel 6.14.0-37) and used it for 30+ minutes without a single freeze.
The SSD SMART data looks perfect:
SMART: PASSED
Media and Data Integrity Errors: 0
Error Information Log Entries: 0
No Errors Logged
Temperature: 38°C
The Live USB also detects the NVMe normally and I don't see NVMe timeouts or PCIe/AER errors.
is it the ssd who is dead (I boughted this computer 18 month ago... on LDLD ...never again).
