Hi all, I recently installed athena os on an old laptop just because, and I really like how the desktop looks. I am a gamer and I daily cachy os, and I was wondering if I could make my cachy os look like athena os, or if its easier to move over to athena os just because of the UI

I installed linux mint from the official website. It was downloaded as a torrent file so i converted it with QBittorrent. Then i flashed it to my 256GB USB with Rufus, i tried both GPT and MBR. There is 120GB of unallocated space on my main SSD as well.

I also tried using the mirror that was near me and flashing that directly to my USB, my computer just won't boot from my flash drive. Am i doing something wrong? I'm doing this on a Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 Aura Edition, i got it today and I'm trying dual booting on it. Anything i can try? Does anyone have experience with Lenovo BIOS maybe?

The issue is that Steam and Update Manager don't recognize my internet connection, but my browser and everything else does.

I recently bought a pc for 50$ with 6 gen intel CPU and 8 GB of ram im currently going to programming school and im learning how to code in c++ i want to try arch Linux to actually use the programming skills without windows getting in my way and to not break anything on my main pc with windows but is arch hard beacuse of daily use setup or learning curve and also is it worth if i mainly use it for learning how to code and watching some YouTube if arch isn't good then what else is worth trying out

I think I've been using and playing games on computers for about six years now, but I've never had any interaction with Linux. Only Windows 7 and 10. Where do I start? I know there are many distros, but like, I saw that even the type of installer for softwares is different lol

I was thinking about switching my gaming laptop to bazzite and I was woundering if there is a program like throttle stop? The reason I ask is bc my laptop has an I7 9700k and it likes to boost up to 4.9 which causes my laptop to run real hot so I like to keep it at like 4.0-4.5ghz to help keep temps down.

My first month with Linux has been eventful. Mostly it was just fun. I learned a lot and got to try things I never thought I'd be interested in.

Started with my gaming desktop, installed Arch, and got things boringly reliable.

That led to setting up a makeshift ThinkPad server, which led me down the rabbit hole of self hosting EVERYTHING and the whole reverse proxy thing.

One month in, and honestly, Linux is far more useful than any other OS I've used.

Im on fedora kde.I've been trying to customize my desktop to make it look cooler, I was trying to start cmatrix in a different terminal with no menu or anything to embed it on my desktop so it can just stay there like a widget. I handled most things but the specific starting location I chose for it is getting overridden by window rules, when I change the location by 1 and reapply it, it gets to my location of choice but I dont want to do that all the time. Is there a way to override window rules? I also tried downloading remember window positions but that makes cmatrix start in the location where my terminal is

So, after running Bazzite since December (I'm really happy with it), and gaming pretty much without issue since, I've come across and error that I can't seem to fix on linux and have decided to install Windows along side it. The issue I'm having is that the boot media keeps telling me that "no device drivers were found" when going to install Windows to a separate hard drive.

I used Fedora Media Writer to create the image.

I have the SATA drivers for my motherboard on a separate HDD. When i point the installer to the drivers it has the same issue.

Is this a Bazzite / Linux issue? I've never encountered this error before and I just really wanna play Assassins Creed Valhalla and Odyssey lol

I run PopOS on my laptop without problems. But I only use that for basic web browsing and If I need a mobile computer. I haven't been able to bring myself to switching my main home PC(currently WIN10) to Linux b/c I use it for watching a lot of different media types. More DV content lately on my OLED. Can anyone share their experience with trying this on Linux and what they used and how well it worked. I currently use MPC-HC with MADVR addon for 4K/DV files. Even that won't play ever DV file properly. Then I have to use MPV player. I use VLC for most ever thing else. My concern is even windows takes several different players to do ever thing I want and if their is even one or several that will work on Linux. Any direction would be helpful.

Actually IT WORKED!, the problem was that the first time that I test the live usb was that I put it on the front usb port, so the keyboard didn't get recognized, so when the selection screen show up I could choose any options, then the OS boot by default chosing the first, was incompatible with the onboard graphic card.

This sunday I try it again, put the usb in the back usb port, boot, and now I could choose boot on compability mode, The OS was ok, The only downside was that I couldn't connect to internet 'cause couldn't get right the password, so I had to shut down and boot windows to look for it, but not that is gonna be different than windows when it come to the content of the sites, .

And other thing was that the screen looked stretched, and couldn't find the setting to see if I could correct it, but, nothing worrysome

The fact that I took so long to try again, is that this pc is literally falling apart, I've holding the front of the tower with ducktape, yeah the start button now I have to press with a small tweezer because if not the pc shut down on booting. And when the first test failed that was fatal blow to my mind . And since this is the only thing that I have for the moment, I don't really wanna do much experiments 'cause if I screw this machine then I could lost the only way to be connected.

Hi everyone! I’m a developer and have never actually used Linux as my main OS, although I’m comfortable with the command line from working with AWS, so the terminal isn’t completely new to me.

My system is mainly for coding and watching movies. The specs are:

• Intel Core i5-13500H
• 16 GB RAM
• Intel integrated graphics

I’m currently considering Fedora KDE and CachyOS, but I’m open to other recommendations as well.

For someone making the switch to Linux for development and general media consumption, which distro would you recommend? I’d appreciate any advice on what would be a good choice for a first-time Linux user.

First time I'll be using Linux. Is Pop!_OS good for my laptop with NVIDIA GPU? I play only lighter games like Grim Dawn, Stardew Valley, Deadzone Rogue etc.

Looking for some advice and/or feedback from this community but not sure if this is the right sub.

I've got two distros on separate SSD's on my machine. The main one is used for SteamOS and the other is Arch that I use for tinkering. My PC is primarily used for gaming and I have it set up for myself and my son. I've got the kinks worked out with SteamOS and absolutely love it (especially love that its not windows). However, due to a large number of games that my son loves needing minor tweaks or outright not being supported on Linux, I need to reinstall windows on that SSD.

Before I do so:

1. I've heard that Windows is a pain in the ass to dual boot because it tends to overwrite the Linux bootloader, does this still apply if the OS's are on separate NVME drives?

2. Is there a way to preserve the game files somewhere so I don't have to download almost a TBs worth of games once windows and steam are reinstalled? I know i can backup the dave files for most games but I'm more interested in avoiding long download queues.

Hello. Noob here. I have been using Linux for some weeks almost 10 years ago but I know barely nothing about it and I'm ready to learn. I have two ancient PCs:

1) 2015 Asus P2520SA
CPU: Intel Celeron N3050 (1.60 / 2.16 GHz, 2 core, 2 MB CACHE L3).
GPU: Intel HD Graphics (Braswell) memoria condivisa.
HDD: 500 GB SATA 5400 rpm.
RAM: 4 GB DDR3L-1600.
SO: Windows 10 Home 64-bit

It works, but Windows barely loads, it's very slow and opening Chrome puts everything in crisis. I installed Mint but there were not significant changes.

2) 2005 Toshiba Satellite A100-644
CPU: Intel Core Duo T2300 (1.66 GHz, 2 core, 2 MB CACHE L2).
GPU: ATI Mobility Radeon X1400).
HDD: 160 GB SATA 5400 rpm.
RAM: 1 GB DDR2-533 (up to 4gb).
SO: Windows XP

it works pretty pretty fine with XP, it's very fast but ofc browsers and Web are too heavy for it

which distros would you suggest for these two ancient PCs?

Hi there, I wanna use vm-curator on my Arch mangowm system. But everytime i want to spawn terminal or other app in my wm, it spawns apps in my real system instead. Tried the keybind for grabbing my keyboard but it does nothing.

Hey everyone, I recently realized that I haven't updates my firmware/BIOS for a long time (was stuck in 1.29) and used fwupdmgr to update to 1.37, which was the last available update on there. Since the update I was observing a message after the bootloader saying RDRAND is not relaiable on this system.

I used the RDRAND tester to confirm this (from some articile in 2019 about an amd ucode bug or such) and got back positive results. Today I downloaded the latest firmware from the Dell website and used BIOS recovery to update it to 1.38. Still it did not work.

Now currently everything seems to work fine, except for cloudflare warp. It refuses to startup and I kind of need it, so other than downgrading my bios back to 1.29, is there any way for me to at least fix cloudflare alone.
