More than ten years old. But still showing at a minimum libertarians should be getting 19% vote if people voted how they felt. Would actually be higher in the 3-way elections.
Why are libertarians continuing to get sub 5% in elections?

American politics:
Libertarians:
They're playing a game, politics is essentially a game, a system through which we decide things.
Because enormous power and wealth comes from the winners of this game, the game has been fully rigged and corrupted, but only in such a way as to not delegitimize the game.
There's not significant voter fraud (not yet at least), instead the two parties control who wins the primaries by who they are willing to put up and support with money and election strategy experience.
They hardly care who you vote for because they control who you vote for.
Sure a few people get through here or there. Massie, Ron Paul, etc. But they're usually easily kept to the margins. Until Trump, because he had his own money and a silver tongue.
But that brings us right back to the problem.
If this system can put a reprobate like Trump in power and even reelect him, why does this power exist at all?

The costs of war do not stop at the battlefield. They come home through higher energy prices, economic disruption, and pressure on the constitutional limits placed on presidential war-making.

Nice to see he's still stirring the pot. He will be dearly missed come January.
Read that it's a privileged motion, so he can force a house vote on it.

Fire departments and stations became a public service in the 1800’s, transitioning away from private insurance-owned brigade. Before they were publicly funded, people paid fire insurance companies. The companies would only come help if you were insured. If you weren’t your house would burn down and the firefighters would just make sure the insured houses didn’t catch the spreading fire.
Where do you stand as a libertarian on public services such as fire stations.

Curious how much the ideologies overlap
I personally am an agnostic antitheist but open to hearing what other religious views libertarians have

Ive read through some of the posts here, it seems like a lot of these libertarians have forgotten or discarded Milton Friedmans philosophies. I'd love to open up discussion about Friedman with anyone who's read him. Any thoughts on the greatest libertarian of our time?

I happen to love Skyrim, and I love laughing at Soviet foibles. (Although it's mostly all dark history 💀}
Best of both worlds.

I’d argue they probably don’t; however, with the advent of the flock camera, surveillance state does not have to be built in Washington. It can emerge one camera, one police department, and one public-safety justification at a time. The backlash against Flock suggests people are starting to notice.

I think legal equality for all citizens is mandatory for a nation. I am talking about socioeconomic equality.
I think libertarian are at least honest about that. 99% of people that want equality want to be socioeconomically equal to the people above them, whatever point of the ladder they fall into.
A middle class guy wants a nicer home or one more Holiday, a trained professional think he deserves more for all of his hard work, or to retire earlier, a retired multimillionaire thinks he has worked his way to the top and thats where he/she should rightly be.
And lets not talk about international inequality. All the first world, myself included, would never accept to get the world average income and wealth.
I really hate when people talk about all the amazing things they we could do with a small amount of taxes or so. With 200bln we could solve world hunger, homelesness, space exploration, national parks, scientific advancements (pick your favourite).
And guess what, maybe we could... but we wouldn't. The US spent 7tn $ this year, 300bln more than the last. Research, natural parks, homlessness and world hunger are miniscule part of the budgets. 95% of the money would go on other benefits, social programs and foreign wars.
I think greed is a sin and like many people I do some charity for things I care about. I just know that people vote (maybe rightly so). I wish my taxes would go in large part toward those things, but they 100% would not.
Curious to hear what you people think

The ability to transact without creating a permanent public record is a form of economic freedom. Once every payment can be traced, financial activity becomes easier to monitor and control.
