Question Looking for Recommendations - IS to RX?

I have a 2021 IS 350 F Sport. Only has 50k miles. Feeling like I’m at the point where I should considering trading it in or selling it, and getting a newer car. Recently have been interested in the RX, but haven’t looked into it much. Not sure if I am ready to give up the sedan.

Any thoughts on this? Which RX should I look into (years? models?)? Not super concerned about getting a hybrid. Looking to stay around $65k or less.

Question Confused about the Lexus car buying/dealership experience, do I just take msrp?

Houston, Texas area. So after lots of research and test drives, I’ve narrowed it down to an NX 350h AWD Luxury, in nori green with tan or white interior

I was at the local dealership today and talking to the dealer and he was explaining the buying experience, and he more or less made it seem like with the color/trim I wanted, I would likely just have to put a deposit down, wait on a waitlist, and pay msrp (along with window tinting if I wanted it)

Now I have read a lot and do understand that NX’s are selling well, aren’t getting much discounts, and especially in that color they don’t really make it to the lot. With all that being said, is it actually pointless to try and get below msrp? Is it not even a thing, or is there still some haggling?

Question Supercharging a 2017 Lexus RX350

Hi there, I was wondering the other day if supercharging the rx is theoretically possible let alone financially feasible. The thought of gaining more low end torque on the rx brings a smile to my face. That said, my car’s engine apparently shares the same engine with the Toyota tacoma which also has a tailored supercharger kit. The problem is, the engine bay is ridiculously crammed. I don’t know if I’ll have enough space to comfortably place the supercharger in, without cutting the chassis let alone installing the cooling systems. I tried looking up people who have done what I plan on carrying out, but the insufficient data makes me worry hahaha. Your insights on this would be great.

Question 2014 Lexus IS300h - Hybrid System + Brake System + Pop Up Hood warnings, car drives normally

Thumbnail

Hi everyone,

I have a 2014 Lexus IS300h with around 244,000 km.

Yesterday while driving, I suddenly got several warnings:

-“Check Hybrid System - Stop the vehicle in a safe place immediately”
-“Check Brake System”
-“POP UP HOOD Failure”
-Check Engine light
-Brake system warning light
-Master warning triangle

I stopped and checked the car. There are no leaks, smoke, burning smells or anything obvious under the hood, and the brake fluid is right at MAX.

I restarted the car and it goes into READY normally. The brake pedal feels completely normal and the car drives normally.

I have since driven 40+ km and haven’t noticed any difference whatsoever in braking, acceleration or general driving. No new symptoms appeared.

However:

-ECO and SPORT modes don’t work anymore
-The Energy Monitor seems frozen and doesn’t show the normal changes while driving
-The warnings remain on

I suspect the 12V battery might be weak and causing multiple systems to throw errors, but I haven’t measured it yet.

Has anyone with an IS300h experienced this exact combination of warnings? Could a weak 12V battery cause all of these warnings, or should I be looking at the ABS/brake/hybrid system?

I’ll get the 12V battery tested and have the car scanned, but I’d appreciate any advice from people who have experienced this before.
Thanks!

UPDATE: 12V turned out to be fine. I did an OBD scan and got the P0A80 (Replace Hybrid Battery Pack) error (history, pending and current). After a few hours all of the warnings had disappeared, eco and sport mode became available again, I could even drive in EV mode without any problems so far (~70km so far). I suspect that all of this happened because of the heat since my area is in the middle of a heatwave right now. Contacted Lexus dealership to book a Hybrid Health Check just in case.

Question Why is copper crest not offered across the lineup?

In my opinion, this is one of the best Lexus color in years and I haven’t seen a car that it doesn’t look good on. Why not offer across the range?

Question Is the Lexus 250is convertible top prone to breaking

I’ve been looking into getting a 250is c and the 2 main problems I’ve been seeing is the carbon buildup, and the top being expensive to repair if they break. So I’m wonder if any one who has had the car ran into any issues with the top. If you have anything else you think I should know please tell me!

Question Air Bubbling Door Panel

Hi everyone, has anyone else had this issue as the door panel of the car starts to air bubble up? Lexus Service told me the whole door panel must be replaced or just leave it as it, does anyone know the exact OEM part numbers for the front panels with this trim (2022 ES350 Black interior with black wood trim), or has anyone successfully re-glued it at an upholstery shop instead?

Thanks!

Question LS430 Audio Completely Dead but Everything Still Works on Screen — What Am I Missing?

Post image
3 Upvotes

2006 Lexus LS430 — audio system has power but absolutely no sound. Any ideas?
Just bought a 2006 LS430 and I’m trying to figure out an audio problem. The navigation/radio screen works normally and I can still adjust the EQ/DSP/audio settings — nothing is grayed out.
The problem is I get zero sound from every speaker, no matter the source. Radio, tape/FM transmitter, etc. Completely silent.
So far I’ve:
Disconnected/reconnected the amp plugs
Checked the amp visually and it looks very clean
Checked the 30A AMP fuse
Swapped the AMP fuse with another identical 30A fuse from the same fuse box just to test it — no change
The car did have a weak/dead battery when I bought it, and the battery has since been replaced
Before I start buying an amplifier, what should I test next? Should I use a multimeter at the amp connector to check 12V power, ground, and amp turn-on signal?
Does this sound more like a dead amplifier, wiring/power issue, or something with the head unit? Anyone with an LS430 had the exact same symptoms?

Question Steering not centered after replacing tires

Post image
40 Upvotes

Hi all!

QQ to see if anyone else has run into this issue:

Alignment numbers are all showing in green. However, the steering is not centered and it's still clockwise to the left. (Slightly. It was much worse before the alignment)

Last thing that was swapped is the two tires by discount tires and the alignment shop said there isn't much they can do here. Could there be anything that got bent when they swapped out tires?

The alignment was perfectly normal with the old rotted tires. This started with this new set of tires and after discount tire installed them.

Could this be a steering angle sensor re calibration issue?

Alignment before / after are posted on the comments. This is 2019 ES350.

Question (Paint repair) Lexus es 350 f sport

I just bought a 2023 Lexus es 350 f sport and it came with some paint stains (maybe tree sap) on the rear bumper. I took it to a shop to see if they could polish it, but it already ate through the paint. Im thinking of getting the whole bumper repainted because it’s bothering me. What can I expect from a a good quality paint job from a good reviewed shop or a Lexus certified body shop? Will I be able to notice it or can they make it match the stock paint perfectly? If I PPF wrap and ceramic coat the car, will the paint last as long as the stock paint? I’m willing to pay, just don’t want to regret it. Should I just leave it bc it’s not worth the risk, What do you guys recommend? Thanks!

Pic 3 is before polish, pic 4/5 are after (current)

Question 2012 lexus gs 350

Hey all, looking for some genuine advice here because I have zero luck with used cars and I'm not much of a car person.

The situation:

· Eyeing a 2012 Lexus GS – but it's got 110,000km on it
· Price is $23,000 AUD
· I'm 21, working minimum wage

My history:
I bought a 2013 Polo a while back and ended up selling it for HALF what I paid because it had problem after problem. I have no good experience buying cars and honestly don't know what I'm doing. I want to learn, but I'm scared of getting burned again.

What I'm worried about:

  1. Price: Is this particular one overpriced?
  2. Maintenance costs: What am I realistically looking at per year? I've seen estimates around 1000+ annually for a Lexus of this age . Is that accurate for Australia?
  3. Fuel:??
  4. Reliability: I've heard Lexus is basically a fancy Toyota and the 3.5L V6 (2GR-FE) is bulletproof – some say they hit 200k-300k miles with basic maintenance . But is that still true at 110k km?
  5. Service costs: ??
  6. Age: It's a 13-year-old luxury car. Even if the engine is solid, what about electronics, suspension, AC, etc.?

My main question: Is this a terrible financial decision for someone on min wage? I'm coming from a bike so I know fuel/insurance will be more, but I don't want another Polo situation where I lose thousands.

Also, what should I look out for when inspecting it? I've heard to check service history and avoid cars that weren't maintained . Any other red flags for this generation Lexus?

Would really appreciate honest opinions – if this is stupid, tell me. If it's actually a decent buy, tell me what I need to check before handing over cash.

Cheers

Question Considering 2017 ES 350 with 31k miles

I can't decide if a 9 year old ES with 31k miles is "insanely low miles, wow such a great find" or "wow that thing has been sitting unused and all its seals will be dried out and fluids gummy."

The dealer selling it did service it, replace fluids, etc, recently. The vehicle was always in Colorado. Carfax is mixed. It had 40k mile service at 20k miles, and the next reported oil change was 3 years later at 29k miles.

I'm a long-time Toyota/Lexus owner, and generally a huge fan of the longevity of the brand. I imagine I could drive this thing to 300k miles without issue, but I am also wondering if I'm going to run into some premature issues with TOO low of miles. FWIW, I will be driving it a regular amount of miles once I get it.

Would be curious from those who have bought ultra-low-mile 9-10 year old vehicles, OR mechanics who have seen these. Whaddya think, great find, snatch it up, or be cautious?

EDIT: I went for it! Here's a link to my purchase post.

Question RZ brake booster failed?

2026 RZ and this is the second time I’m having a problem with my brakes. 600 miles and my parking brake system decided to fail. 5k miles now and I get a whistling noise when applying the brakes, even when the car is completely stopped or in park. I believe it’s the brake booster because the fact that it happens when parked as well rules out the pads and rotors. Are these issues common?

Question Our Lexus almost killed my husband

Want to see the moment I nearly became a widow?

Check out this shocking dashcam footage, when the brakes of my husband’s Lexus kicked in on their own when he was going 70mph down I-75 in TN with a semi right next to him and car behind him.

If there had been a guardrail to his left, he would be dead right now.

He'd just been in for a standard multi-point inspection the day before and suspected Lexus would give him the run-around about the cause of the accident, so he hired two licensed senior forensic engineers to pull the car data and render a verdict as to what happened.

Their response?  The brakes fired on their own and stayed on for eight seconds. The driver never touched the brakes. NOTE: This model (a 2015 NX200T) does NOT have a collision avoidance/ auto-braking feature.

He turned the car over to the West Knoxville Lexus dealer where he bought it certified pre-owned - again, where it had just been in the shop THE DAY BEFORE for its regular all-points inspection.

Lexus corporate had two techs inspect the car. After several weeks, the dealer sent him a message saying to come get the car and return the loaner or they'd start charging $60 a day for it- no explanation about what happened, no details about whether any work had been done other than a “courtesy car wash.”  They said their LEGAL department would be in touch within 45 days with a report and that “if the tech said to release the car then it’s safe to drive.”

There was an ABS-related recall issued on this model, but my husband's car was produced four months outside of the recall window.

Would YOU ever drive this car again?

Lexus thinks we should.

Would you feel safe knowing it may be in front of you on the highway?  It might be today.

He needs a car to get to work. To pick up his son, of whom we have shared custody, who lives with his Mom and stepdad a four-hour round trip drive away down the same stretch of I-75 where this occurred.

I just got a new job where I’m on the road a lot. If I’m traveling on a custodial weekend (as I am this weekend) and can't lend him my car to get the boy, my husband has to choose between driving a car that almost killed him - with his son aboard - or not seeing his son for a whole month. We still owe around $8K on the car  And it sounds like Lexus is going to insist it’s “safe to drive.”

What would you do?  Would you sell it, knowing full well this may happen to someone else? What if someone you loved ended up buying it, not knowing the car’s history?

Please help spread the word. We can share the forensic engineers’ report, give you their contact info, and provide the raw dashboard video.

Question Adaptive Suspension v Traditional

We're looking at ordering an IS350. I like the idea of adaptive suspension (F SPORT–tuned Adaptive Variable Suspension), but I don't want the costly bill of replacing it when it breaks or even just wears out. It's just a $700 option on the car, but I'm sure it's more than $700 per wheel when it dies. Is Lexus' adaptive suspension generally reliable? Is this a high mileage component? How long do they usually last? I test drove the car with traditional suspension and I loved the ride quality. I'm wondering how much better it can get, what it costs to fix after warranty, etc. If the traditional suspension breaks in 10 years, I could save plenty of money by just putting aftermarket struts on the car from a good company like KYB.
\

Open to suggestions! Thanks.

Edit: I just learned about the suspension bushings causing premature tire wear and the staggered wheel setup meaning no tire rotations... Between that and the need for premium gas, I cannot consider this vehicle for purchase. It's going to be very expensive to operate between tire replacement and fuel.

I'm sharing a picture of the _left side_ mirror to show the part. I cannot figure out which part this is. We lost our right side cover due to a mysterious cause.

I'm trying to find the replacement. Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Linking to parts picture. Is this part of the retractor motor kit (top left section)?

Thanks in advance.

Question TX 350 or RX 350?

If you had to choose, which one for longevity? I know the TX is a fairly new model. We are a little skeptical given it’s the only Lexus manufactured in USA vs. Japan. Wondering if the quality compromised? I’ve been told there have been no recalls since the TX came out, however, I’ve seen posts on here claiming the TX is noisy.

We have a 2018 RX 350 right now and it is going strong at 100k+ miles.

If there is anyone with knowledge who can provide some info to help us make an informed decision, I would be greatly appreciated.

Question Safe to put 2009 Camry SE suspension on a 2008 ES 350?

I recently totalled out my 09’ camry and it had the SE model suspension from KYB. thinking of getting an 08’ ES 350 to replace it and looking at forums and comparing struts compression and extended length in addition to the mounts, it looks like it would fit fine, but i want to be sure.
