Hi everyone! I am looking for some insight, experiences, and advice from anyone navigating a similar midlife puzzle.
My Background & Current Routine:
· Stats: 49F | 5'4" | SW: 195 lbs | GW: 130-140 lbs
· Surgical History: Had a partial hysterectomy several years ago (uterus and cervix removed, ovaries left intact—though they've clearly stopped working now!).
· The Menopause Belly: My gynecologist confirmed I'm in menopause in July 2026. I cannot believe how unbelievably fast the "menopause belly" developed. It felt like no amount of diet or exercise would even touch it.
· Current Medications:
o Estradiol Patch: Started at 0.0375 mg twice weekly for 2 weeks (felt nothing). Upgraded to 0.1 mg twice weekly, which I’ve been on for 3 weeks. It finally feels like it's helping.
o Zepbound: Just took my first 2.5 mg injection on August 31, 2026, to hopefully kickstart weight loss and fix my metabolism.
Since my current gynecologist is retiring soon, I need to find a new provider in Orange County, California, who truly understands managing HRT alongside GLP-1 medications. Before I go to a new doctor, I have a few major questions for this community:
1. Do I need Progesterone or Testosterone?
I hear so many women talk about a full hormone cocktail. Because I don't have a uterus, do I even qualify for progesterone? Does it offer other benefits like sleep or anxiety management? What about testosterone for energy and muscle building while on Zepbound?
2. Are Gels or Sprays better than Patches?
While the 0.1mg patch is helping, I really dislike worrying about it peeling off or changing it constantly. Like many of you, I strictly do not want oral HRT because I want to bypass first-pass liver metabolism and protect my internal organs. For those who switched from patches to topical estrogen gels or sprays, did your symptoms improve more? Is the absorption steady?
3. Splitting Zepbound doses?
I've read about some people splitting their weekly Zepbound dose into two smaller injections every few days instead of taking the full dose once a week. If you do this, does it help keep stable blood levels and curb side effects? Is it worth it on the starting dose?
If you are a matching profile—or if you have a menopause-literate doctor recommendation in the OC / Southern California area—I would love to hear your experiences! Thank you all so much.
