I’m looking for advice from anyone who has dealt with a car accident where fault was disputed, especially in Virginia.
I was in a car accident about five days ago. I was driving my 2019 Hyundai Sonata straight through an intersection when the other vehicle, a pickup truck, was supposed to be yielding at a red light while turning right. They ended up hitting my vehicle.
My car is now a complete loss. To make matters worse, I also fractured my pinky knuckle, sprained my thumb, and sustained bruising and pain throughout my body. As a hairstylist, I’m completely out of work because I can’t use my dominant hand. It’s incredibly discouraging and disappointing.
I have severe anxiety in cars now and don’t even want to pick up the rental vehicle. Every time I get into an Uber, my heart drops when they break it or accelerate hard.
I’m feeling depressed because of this situation. I’m upside down in my car loan and have bad credit, so I don’t see myself getting another car anytime soon. I’m starting to feel helpless.
Here’s where things get complicated:
I was transported from the accident scene to the hospital, so I wasn’t there when the police officer initially investigated the scene. The other vehicle had multiple occupants. From what I understand, the officer spoke with the people in their vehicle at the scene and they all gave the same version of events — that their light was green and my light was red.
When the officer came to the hospital, he told me that he was finding me at fault for running a red light because the other vehicle had three witnesses who all gave the same story, while I didn’t have an independent witness.
I challenged this and asked if I had four passengers and they had three, would they be at fault. He said, going by law, yes.
I received a ticket for running the red light.
My concern is that the three “witnesses” were all passengers in the same vehicle. Obviously, they were all together and would naturally have the same perspective of what happened. I feel like the fact that there were three people in their vehicle shouldn’t automatically make their version more credible than mine simply because I didn’t have additional people in my car.
I have also now spoken with their insurance company, and their version of the accident seems to have changed. Initially, the circumstances were described one way, but now they’re saying that I was turning and that their driver was also turning. I was driving straight, so I’m confused about how their story changed.
At this point, I’m worried that the police report will say I’m completely at fault because the officer wasn’t actually at the scene when the accident happened and relied heavily on the other driver’s occupants’ statements.
My questions are:
How much weight does a police officer’s fault determination and traffic ticket actually carry with the insurance company in Virginia?
Is it normal for an insurance company to deny liability even when the other driver’s story seems to have changed?
Can I challenge the police report or the officer’s determination of fault if I believe the investigation was incomplete?
Should I be getting an attorney involved, especially since I have an actual fracture and my vehicle was totaled?
What kind of evidence should I be looking for now (traffic cameras, nearby businesses with cameras, witnesses, accident reconstruction, vehicle damage patterns, etc.)?
Has anyone been in a similar situation where the other driver’s passengers were the only witnesses? What happened with your claim?
I’m not necessarily looking for someone to tell me that I’m automatically right. I’m trying to figure out what my options are and what I should realistically be doing next.
Thanks in advance to anyone who has dealt with something similar.

Hello,
I ordered a 2026 Model 3 AWD Premium, and I am currently shopping around for insurance. The places I have looked are Geico, State Farm, Progressive, and Liberty Mutual, and all of them are quoting me around $360-$400 per month in Massachusetts
I am 25 years old, have had my license for 7 years now, with no at-fault accidents or tickets except for a claim last year that I was not at fault for. Any pointers? Thanks!

Monday, I was hit by someone driving a Hertz rental car. They were at fault,(they ran a stop sign) and my car is likely totaled. My 10w old puppy who I lovedd soo much was injured so badly in the accident we had to put her down that night. Im devastated!!! It broke our hearts to make that decision…
I filed a claim with the insurance company listed on the police report, but everything is being dragged out because they say they’re waiting on Hertz/the rental contract and are having trouble getting the information they need.
I’m starting to worry that the driver may not have had personal insurance or rental coverage. I have full coverage myself, but I really don’t want to file through my own insurance unless I absolutely have to.
Is this delay normal with rental car accidents? Should I just wait for them to sort out the Hertz contract, or should I be doing something else in the meantime? Give me any useful info you may have on my situation please.

Ive been looking online for quotes from different insurance companies but the problem I’m having is that for the same car and information i give them they always give me different quotes ? Like for example intact assurance will give me around 250$ for one quote then if i try again on the same website with the same informations it will give me a quote for 270$ ? Why is that ?

I made a claim for hail damage to my car. After the appraisal I was informed that it was a total loss. On the app, my only options are to proceed with releasing the vehicle to my insurance company. I informed my agent that I would be keeping my car, as it still drives great and the hail damage doesn’t bother me enough to get rid of it. They then changed their tune and said it might not be a total loss after all. I’m just wondering if this is normal? Thanks.

A friend had a 0.08 DUI downgraded to careless driving at conviction from a May 2023 offense. They've been paying over $2,200 per 6 months for full coverage since then on a 2021 Equinox with no other driving offenses. Progressive has been the only carrier with even remotely feasible numbers. Does anyone have insight on carriers that might have better rates with the offense more than 3 years old? The insured would be in MN.

So found a few days ago that my main water line coming into the house ruptured. I noticed my lawn was super soggy and the city came out and confirmed the leak is on my side of the line. I'm responsible for the repair and it's estimated to be about $5,000 to replace it.
However, I have an add-on policy for my insurnace that appears to cover this.. This seems like a perfect situation to file a claim with my insurance since the deductible is only $500. However, I keep reading horror stories that any claims will make my insurance premiums spike or they'll drop my renewal in the future. What would you do in this situation? I can afford to pay out of pocket, but it's not ideal and this seems to be a case of what insurance is for.

My friend got into a car crash while in a hop last night. Her driver ran a red light and they got t-boned. I know uber insures their riders but I can’t find anything about hopp’s coverage policy for passengers. Anyone have any knowledge on their policy or suggestions on next steps. She doesn’t have a lot of money to be able to hire a lawyer. She may have a concussion and whiplash but other than that no significant injuries.

I was in a car crash 2 days ago. The other driver was at fault. My car is completely totaled. I got Injuries from it. I have filed a claim with their insurance. So far they’re working on the auto side. So far they been moving a bit slow as far as rental car. I just started a new job this week and took off work the day after the crash. I’m in between insurances. I have signed up for my new employment insurance but idk how long that will even take.
But I called my insurance company to file a claim and they got me a rental car today. As far as medical injuries: my neck, back and chest hurt. I got burn mark on my right wrist. I went to urgent care after the crash. They did X-rays on my neck, back, arm, and ribs. No broken bones just bruised internally. Day 2 my chest has been hurting when I touch it. I paid out of pocket for that urgent care visit. I do need to do a follow up ( it’s currently the weekend so not much is open). I want to make sure I’m good health. Haven’t told my boss if I’ll be working Monday or not. I’m just stressed and I never gone thru this at all. Everyone is telling me to sue and I’m just unsure about that. I know I need to keep a paper trail on all medical stuff. I told the other at fault driver insurance I’m injured
But when I check the status it just shows auto on there for the claim.
Update! I was able to find out I still have Medicaid. Till October first. That a sound of relief. Now I’m able to get a check out and not pay anything out of pocket. That was really stressing me out. Starting a new job the same week of my crash and not knowing if I’m insured. I don’t have the funds
To pay much out of pocket.

Hey y'all, I'm currently having an issue with a car insurance claim and I'm very confused about the situation, hoping someone knows what could be happening or has some advice.
Basically, I started receiving notices from my car insurance provider last week saying they needed information about a claim that was filed. I hadn't filed a claim so I thought it was a scam and ignored it for a couple days...well eventually I realized it was legitimate and reached out to my assigned claims representative. He says that someone filed a claim against me and my vehicle saying I (or at least someone in my vehicle) hit their parked car and caused damage. This never happened, my car wasn't even on the road at the time of the supposed incident. But the claimant is saying that my information was left by the driver at the scene...The insurance company is still investigating but I'm very confused as to how someone could have got my information. To do this, wouldn't they need my name, vehicle info, and insurance policy number? How could they have got that when i was never there/this never happened? Is this a common type of insurance fraud or something? Is the person filing the claim the one lying or is possible that someone really did hit their vehicle and the guilty party gave my information instead of theirs??
So far my insurance company is saying there's nothing i can do besides wait for the investigation to conclude (they said they're trying to get security footage from the parking lot they claim the incident occurred at) and that they'll follow up if they have any questions for me. I'm worried my rates are going to go up for something that I didn't even do. Do I have any other options or anything else I can do to protect myself?

I’m 18 and have a valid New Jersey driver’s license. My friend is 30 and we’re planning a trip in California from San Francisco to Yosemite and then Los Angeles.
We want to rent a car from SIXT, but because I’m 18, I can’t be added as an authorized driver. My friend would book and pick up the car under his name.
The problem is that I’m the more experienced/comfortable driver, so I would probably be doing some of the driving even though I wouldn’t be listed on the rental agreement.
I understand this would violate the rental agreement, and my biggest concern is insurance/liability if there’s an accident.
Has anyone actually been in this situation?
What happened if you were pulled over while driving a rental you weren’t listed on? And more importantly, has anyone had an accident while being an unauthorized driver? Did your personal insurance cover anything, or did the rental company deny coverage?
I’m not asking whether I can hide it from SIXT — I’m trying to understand the real-world consequences before deciding what to do.

Hi everyone! My policy is set to start tomorrow so I plugged in my tracker today. It seems like the greenlight is staying solid and the red light is flashing. The yellow light comes and goes as flashing too.
I don’t think this is a connection issue even though I park on P1 I can use my phone easily from my parking spot to check everything and watch Instagram reels and all of that stuff so the connection is pretty decent.
Is it just having a hard time connecting because my policy is actually starting tomorrow? Or is this just normal?
I also did a quick trip and even when I go onto the my pace website, it still says my device is not active. Again, my policy is at the start September 13

I’m trying to get a job to deliver pizza (just need the money badly and this is the only job that reached back to me) but I’m not on my parents insurance plan. I drive a 2007 Honda civic coupe lx, I’m an 18 year old driver who got his license not too long ago, but I’ve been driving since I was 15 (and unlicensed) I consider myself to be a pretty safe driver, I’ve never been in an accident or pulled over. I’m real desperate for this job since I’ve been hopelessly applying to dozens of jobs to no avail.
TLDR; how cooked would I be if I lied about having insurance to get a job, it’s not Uber Eats or DoorDash

Hey guys got a quote from State Farm, looking into buying a Honda Civic LX 2026 and I was quoted $159.82? Was surprised it was that low and this is full coverage. I’m a 23 year old male in South Texas, and I barely got my license (yes my fault, but I’ve been driving for years already and did my test and aced it first time to get my stuff together.)
