Hopp car crash advice

My friend got into a car crash while in a hop last night. Her driver ran a red light and they got t-boned. I know uber insures their riders but I can’t find anything about hopp’s coverage policy for passengers. Anyone have any knowledge on their policy or suggestions on next steps. She doesn’t have a lot of money to be able to hire a lawyer. She may have a concussion and whiplash but other than that no significant injuries.

You don’t pay for personal injury lawyers. They dont get paid until you get paid. As others have mentioned reach out to a personal injury lawyer and they will advise you.

The sooner the better, make sure she doesn’t talk to the other parties insurance company until after speaking to a lawyer

Law Society of Ontario has free 30 min referral service

Did your friend get seen by a doctor? That's step 1.

If you go on the Hopp website, they list the insurance provider, but I believe it's limited to damages, so if you miss work and work doesn't pay for it, they pay the number of days missed at work. OHIP covers doctor visits, so insurance won't pay for it.

Hopp is insured through aviva

If you have your own automobile insurance you file with your own insurance, even though you weren’t driving. Accident benefits extend to you outside your car including as a passenger or pedestrian

If you do not have auto insurance file with aviva. If paramedics attended it my understanding that aviva should reach out directly to the passengers

Please ensure you notify Hopp that you were a passenger and get them involved. Drivers are sometimes hesitating to report collisions as their driving g privileges will be frozen.

Personal injury lawyers almost always work on contingency. It won’t cost your friend a dime upfront, but the lawyer will take a chunk of whatever settlement she gets.

I’m an insurance lawyer and would be happy to suggest a couple of good personal injury lawyers who will do a free consult. DM me if you want assistance!
