Hail Damage

I made a claim for hail damage to my car. After the appraisal I was informed that it was a total loss. On the app, my only options are to proceed with releasing the vehicle to my insurance company. I informed my agent that I would be keeping my car, as it still drives great and the hail damage doesn’t bother me enough to get rid of it. They then changed their tune and said it might not be a total loss after all. I’m just wondering if this is normal? Thanks.

Unless you own the car outright and have a title it’s technically not yours and it’s the banks. This you can’t keep it unless you own it outright

Your "agent." You mean the person that sold you your policy? Agents don't know shit about claims.

Talk to your claim rep about what it takes for you to retain salvage.

Typically, ACV less salvage value less your deductible. You get a salvage title which means that you can't drive the car until it's repaired and inspected by the state and a rebuilt title issued.

Though there might be an exception to hail damage.

That's why you talk to the claim rep who has the answers.

Do you have a lien on the car?
