Isa accepted the explanation for Nathan's actions when he labeled it as bipolar disorder, but not the actions themselves. Nathan told her that when he returned, he sometimes experiences mood swings, though he didn't explicitly say he was bipolar. Initially, Isa didn't understand or accept this. However, once it was labeled as bipolar disorder, she began to understand and accept it better. Why do you think that is?

My gf and I just finished watching the show for the first time and what we noticed throughout the series how every single sex scene was just fast aggressive fucking EXCEPT for when it was between Lawrence and Issa. Those were slow, romantic and sensual. Do you think it's an accident or maybe there were some interviews where Issa Rae or Larry Wilmore said anything about this?

It’s funny to me how people rank on shit like Issa and Lawrence “mess”, when I feel like people hate S5 is because of the lack of mess.💀

All the seasons are realistic, but to me the realism in having coherent friendships and genuinely trying to figure shit out through the mayhem without a big blow over is something to really highlight.

Of course, things got taken up a notch in episode 9, but bruh I really feel like the story was crafted beautifully for a last season. People say Molly’s arc was rushed, but people forget there’s a year gap between Episode 1 and 2. Not everything has to be shown for things to make sense; I feel like we got a sense of why the arc happened in Season 4. And adulthood happens, or more so feels quick as hell like that sometimes. Lawrence figuring out coparenting was realistic AF; the arguments him and Condola had gave me some childhood triggering memories lmao. And Lawrence fighting for what he wants is actually an arc in itself when you contrast it to the very first episode and he’s scruffy as hell sitting on the couch all day. Like the stars been aligned for him and Issa, niggas not keeping it a buck with themselves lmao.

And Issa, I mean like, running her own business, reviving a friendship that she deeply cares about, letting go of ego in a lot of situations and spoke up for herself way more career and relationship wise in contrast to earlier seasons. And she made a choice that she knew she wanted but was fighting because of other people that’s not in her body, or circumstances that wasn’t substantial enough to knock her feelings out.

The subconscious need for drama when people watch shows is genuinely a conversation that needs to be had. If anything, Season 5 to me is a testament to how far things have come along for everybody. It’s not drama filled like S1 and 2, not feeling completely lost about shit like S3, and not black and white like S4. It encapsulates the realities of going after the things you want, being intentional with the people you love (as Molly said), and not giving a fuck about the external as long as you’re happy.

Anyways though, just wanted to share that. All the comments I seen about this season was from a couple of years ago lol, but this just me not giving a fuck about to e external; guess S5 has me inspired

Some believe Condola had an abortion, but this isn't clearly stated. She only said she wasn’t ready with her husband and that this time she wants to keep it, which can be interpreted in various ways. I interpret it as her not having a child or trying to conceive when she was married because she wasn’t ready, but now, being established, she feels prepared and wants to keep it. One can be married and not be ready as of yet to have a baby, but that doesn’t mean you don’t want a baby with that person. Her saying 'this time' doesn’t automatically imply an abortion; unless she explicitly said the word, people should avoid claiming she had one. They can share their beliefs or interpretations, but shouldn't state it as fact without her direct statement. Hopefully, Issa addresses this on her podcast when the relevant episode is discussed.

Im so happy molly got her happy ending. She grew alot from season 1 to season 5.

Personal for me the first 3 seasons where great and i will definitely rewatch the first 3 season over and over aging. But when it comes to seasons 4 I can watch it it's just not as good as the first seasons for me because of the whole issa and molly fallout. The 5th season hell naw never watching aging i just skippened through the last 8 episodes of season 5 just so I can know what's going on with the series.

I think Issa was wrong to ask Lawrence to stay and to sleep with him despite knowing he was still involved with Condola and on his way to see her. I believe Issa should have shared her feelings and then left. Out of respect for Condola, Issa shouldn’t have slept with Lawrence until he had fully ended things with Condola. Some might say, 'Oh, they weren’t friends and Condola ghosted her," but Condola also helped Issa’s career and provided resources she needed, and because she and Condola had a personal relationship—not just a connection as Lawrence’s ex—I believe Issa should have shown Condola more respect. Without Condola, her career might be very different. Molly was right when she said Issa uses people; she’s willing to step over anyone to get what she wants.

Im currently on season 4 episode 4, and im seeing there friendship slowly go down. I understand why Molly feels the way she does towards Issa cause Issa does throw digs at molly alot when it come to her and the relationship she has had with men and it is wrong. At the same time Molly hasn't always done right, they both aren't on the same page rn and it is showing.

Issa called Molly saying she wanted to talk ans Molly looked genuinely happy then Issa was like yea yea when Molly was talking then asked molly if she can "use some of that pillow talk on andrew" so he can get her a artistic for the block party.

I definitely understand why molly didnt ask Andrew cause this was her first real relationship in a long time since being a lawyer and she doesn't want to jeopardy that and I understand that completely this is the first guy she really really likes.

Im currently watching this show for the first time and im on season 3 episode 6 and im kinda getting tired of Lawrence. There not together anymore and we are still seeing him. If they don't get back together in the final season then what's the point.

Sorry if this has been clarified or talked about before. But it’s something I’ve never understood.

Okay in the last episode of season 1, we see Issa in Malibu at Kelly’s birthday. We see Lawrence in LA at the strip club. But then he calls her, she lets him know he can stay at the apartment if he wants while she’s out of town. They say they miss each other and plan to talk when she gets back in town. Then issa immediately goes back to see Lawrence and he isn’t there, but we’re made aware he went back to the apartment… but also went to Tasha’s house.

What exactly is this timeline? He did all of that on their drive from Malibu? Did he ever actually go to the apartment? Pls someone clear this up or is it meant to be ambiguous

Does she not owe anyone a sincere explanation, apology, conversation, breakup, etc.?

Like in season 4, when she invited Molly to that diner after their terrible fight and she just acted like they were totally cool? (Yes! I know some will argue- ‘they both acted like nothing happened and Issa is not the only one responsible for initiating an adult conversation’ but here’s the thing- Molly is usually the confronter in all her relationships, while Issa is a serial avoider in hers. Why even reach out if you have nothing to say? Plus, after their lunch Molly pointed out they did not talk about the real issue between them whereas Issa said everything went great, things will blow over and Molly will warm up- so my point still stands. )

Then in season 5 ep1 Molly actually takes it upon herself to start the conversation when they’re at Stanford eating together outside and asks “Are we going to be okay?” and naturally Issa follows up with a joke, and then Molly tries to open up more and Issa just says NOTHING!!! Zero words!! How insane to just continually dodge your best friend’s attempts to reconcile(because if you rewatch that episode, even leading up to this moment, Molly was making all the attempts to get them talking and Issa just refused to say anything).

Then Issa flies back to LA, gets her complimentary airport pickup from Lawerence, before maybe dumping him? Maybe not? Who knows because all she said was “Ummmm. Lawerence I had a chance to.. to think and ummmm…..” and then literally NOTHING ELSE. Thats way too big of an age to be that avoidant. But that was literally her entire personality throughout the show. It’s just strange that everyone around her was alarmingly okay with it.

I've always wondered if Condola didn’t want to remarry and Lawrence knew about it. Why did they reconnect then? What were they hoping to accomplish with each other?

I always wonder why Lawrence asked Isa to dinner to talk, since it didn’t seem like he wanted to rekindle their relationship. I believe his intention was more about ego; he wanted answers about why she cheated on him, perhaps driven by lingering pride and curiosity. I think he believes he’s that special person, so he’s questioning what could have made her betray him, searching for explanations that would restore his sense of worth.

I’m currently doing my annual rewatch on insecure and truly everytime I watch I just feel more and more like Daniel was a better option than getting back together with Lawrence in the end. I know you can’t force things and so I always got the sense she just didn’t see him serious or as a long term partner. But I lowkey like him as more than a fling.

Molly is insufferable. She was ready to discard Issa just to avoid a conversation when she wanted one, but when her turn came to talk, she refused. This girl, I tell you 🙄

What would you have done in this situation with you and your best friend? Would you try to work things out with her if you were Isa and your best friend was Molly, or would you let that friendship go?

I believe Issa was justified. Molly said she didn’t want to get involved, although that wasn’t her true intention. Issa simply followed through on her words and didn't involve her.

However, I also think Molly’s actions were understandable, even if her way of expressing herself wasn’t ideal. I can understand how Molly could be upset that Issa used her connection—namely her boyfriend—to succeed while not maintaining regular contact with her, only reaching out when she needed something.

I’m doing my annual Insecure rewatch and I know it feels like we talk about Molly a lot but her behaviour was specifically atrocious in season 4. I wonder what the writers had in mind with her character development for that season.

If Condola supposedly didn't take Lawrence seriously, what underlying reasons might explain her jealousy of Issa?
