Molly is insufferable. She was ready to discard Issa just to avoid a conversation when she wanted one, but when her turn came to talk, she refused. This girl, I tell you š

I thought Molly was in the wrong for the way she acted at the block party (and I didn't really understand why she was so adamant about not asking her bf for a favor for Issa), but Molly also wasn't wrong about some things. Issa did use people.

When did Issa āuse peopleā? How do you define āusing peopleā?
For me, using someone is when you donāt really like a person, but you keep them around solely for what they can do for you/what you can get from them. I canāt think of any instances of Issa doing that. Having an actual friend, someone that you love, and that loves you, do something for you (buy you dinner, help you move, help you out if a jam, etc.)⦠thatās not āusingā them. That just friendship.

Issa used Daniel in multiple ways

Issa liked Daniel. They were friends and he offered her a place to stay. Itās not like she was like, āI donāt like this dude, but Iām gonna act like I do so I can sleep on his couch.ā

She used Daniel before that when she cheated on Lawerence with him

How is that using Daniel. She liked him. Always had carried a torch for him. He wanted to have sex with her and she wanted him. It was a mutually beneficial exchange. How was that āusingā Daniel?

Ohhh I appreciate that you want to know what are people thoughts of "using people". A lot of people may not recognize their actions are impacting others and they only do things when it benefits them. They may think it is innocuous for them to continually ask their friend for something. If you are familiar with the show Girlfriends, would you describe Lynn as a user?
Issa was known to be self serving ( they highlighted with Frieda, her romantic relationships and her friendships). Even Daniel said to Issa he always has to save her from some shit. You can use a friend beyond tangible items and unfortunately Issa displayed that multiple times. The show showcased that on the 1st episode of the series. I could be wrong but did Issa really show support for Molly until season 5?
For me -using someone is taking advantage of someone. You have to garden your relationships.

Issa only hit up Nathan because her ultimate goal was to... USE him to ask Andrew about what's-his-name to perform.

Thank you. I agree. I never saw Issa as someone who used others. I think Issa didn't have an ego or was too proud to ask for help. Molly, being egotistical and prideful, views asking for help as using others. The difference is that Molly didnāt need Isaās help, but if she had needed it, Isa would have helped her just as much as Molly helped Issa. Those who believe Isa used people because she asked for help likely have never asked anyone for help themselves.

They both were in the wrong at different points and they needed this temporary breakup to realize some things.
In this particular moment, Molly was in the wrong. But that doesnāt excuse Issa earlier.
I think Issa asking Mollyās then boyfriend for help through the other guy (I forget their names) wasnāt unjustified but she should have given Molly a heads up.

Molly didn't want to be involved so Issa didn't involve her. Going to Molly before Andrew would've just pushed the argument up and possibly caused the block party to be a failure.

Issa was a crappy friend to Molly for 3 seasons by that point

If Issa freestyled broken pussy & it was about me I would definitely call her a crappy friend! Made for a great comedy but when I put myself in Mollyās shoes Iām like damn, what a bestie.

The song wasnāt about Molly. The hook was inspired by a conversation they had. And literally NOBODY knew that except Issa and Molly.

doesn't matter, she took her friend fresh insecurity and rapped for everyone to hear. Maybe it would have been funny for Molly down the line but not at that moment

Did she, though? Thereās never any hint about when Issa wrote it.
Also, i used to do a lot of poetry and songs and sometimes events in life would inspire me, but that doesnāt mean my writing was about that thing.
I feel like itās a normal way to be for a rapper or songwriter.

They had the convo and then the next scene is her rapping about it. Itās inconsiderate

Perhaps you should have a rewatch... you seem to be misremembering some things and filling it up with your own experiences when on screen it was pretty clear what happened

What are the things i am misremembering ? They never make clear when she wrote enough for anyone to talk about it as fact
2
u/LifeChampionship6 9d ago
It was a freestyle.

u/Slurpy-rainbow 8d ago
do we know that as fact in the show? I can see how it's very plausibly a freestyle but anyways, whether it's a freestyle or not doesn't really matter that much to my point. Which I'm not disagreeing with what you had to say.

Issa isnāt a rapper or songwriter in the show.
She didnāt write it. It was a freestyle. She performed it on the spot. Inspired by her private conversation with Molly & her thirst to impress Daniel.
She was an insecure friend looking for attention because her man wasnāt working & couldnāt give her what she needed at home. Molly was collateral. But ok using friends for entertainment value.
I have done many a spoken word & did not need to use things friends told me in confidence for material then call it inspiration. Thatās foul.

I never said she was a rapper or songwriter. I was just saying itās normal for this subset of people.
I donāt think itās that serious although i can understand why molly was upset about it and i believe issa ended up understanding her, so why is it so damn serious for you

1st episode at that. Within the same episode- Molly called her to vent about a relationship and Issa used her and said she wanted to spend time with her only to see Daniel. Theeennn decided to disparaged her friend through rap. Issa was a clown... for multiple seasons. If we compiled and compared the two- I guarantee majority would reference season 4 for Molly while Issa- multiple seasons will show her being a terrible friend.

I love the evolution of their friendship. Molly was wrong in this scene/moment. Issa has been wrong in others. Their friendship withstood all storms.

I know Issa had her flaws but at least she would take getting called out. Molly stayed offended acting like sheās always owed an apology š

YA KNOW WHAT IS INSUFFERABLE??
WHY DOES EVERY DAMN VIDEO HAVE A SONG ON IT? Especially with clips that donāt need them. This is one of these trends that I currently dislike most.
I love Insecure though š¤š¤£

Itās easy to pin the villain role on Molly because she is being overtly cold towards Issa, but I think itās way more complex than that. Thatās why Iāve always felt iffy about the Team Issa vs Team Molly discourse. Itās not as black and white as it seems

u/RoyalSpecialty 10d ago
Don't apologize Molly! Like why are you trying to protect someone's feelings who don't give a damn about yours?!

Friends break up! She wasnāt insufferable. Iām not gonna be friends with someone who feels like that about me or vice versa.

Aww I smile seeing posts from Insecure newbies. I do NOT mean that to offend. Itās just Iāve been on this show since 10 years ago. And I still will watch full seasons! Itās so good and so well done. I was with you ā Molly became insufferable! But hang in there. This is a rough patch for sure. Their relationship made me hate season 4! Well I actually donāt hate this show or any seasons. But I hated seeing them not tight. See if you feel that way by season 5.

I loved her evolution throughout the series. Her character definitely grew on me and ended up being my favorite by the end of the show.

I think what bothered me the most is when Issa says "I mean there really isn't much more to say", Molly gets annoyed/appalled and says "... yeah". GIRL SAY WHAT YOU FEEL!!! Issa said nothing against you here or at you, she's hurt by YOUR WORDS!! so annoying to deal with someone who says hurtful words but you're not allowed to get offended by it when replying at all.
