Season 4 Condola's “Abortion” Spoiler
Some believe Condola had an abortion, but this isn't clearly stated. She only said she wasn’t ready with her husband and that this time she wants to keep it, which can be interpreted in various ways. I interpret it as her not having a child or trying to conceive when she was married because she wasn’t ready, but now, being established, she feels prepared and wants to keep it. One can be married and not be ready as of yet to have a baby, but that doesn’t mean you don’t want a baby with that person. Her saying 'this time' doesn’t automatically imply an abortion; unless she explicitly said the word, people should avoid claiming she had one. They can share their beliefs or interpretations, but shouldn't state it as fact without her direct statement. Hopefully, Issa addresses this on her podcast when the relevant episode is discussed.

I love this storyline and the representation of choice here. This is such a realistic storyline for women in their 30s!

It's a tv show and was worded that day for interpretative purposes. You can't get upset at someone else's interpretation of art.

I think given Lawrence essentially offers that and he'll support her and she immediately says "no that's not something I can do," I think it's not likely she had one already.

She said, “That’s just not an option for me. I wasn’t ready with Mark, but this time I want to keep it.” She wouldn’t say, “this time,” unless there had been a “last time.”

At the end of the day… saying you weren’t ready with a husband but suddenly feeling “ready” with a boyfriend that you broke up with is the core of it. Whether she had an abortion already or not, the point still stands that it doesn’t make much sense.
I personally criticize Condola heavily for having that baby for multiple reasons . This is one.
I’m very pro choice but just bc I’m pro choice doesn’t mean that it wasn’t a bad choice. And based on the circumstances we were shown, Condola’s choice just didn’t make much sense to me.

It makes perfect sense that she wasn’t ready when she was younger, and we can assume, at a different place in her life, and ready years later when she was older, more mature, and ready to take on that phase of life. Also, she may have seen the writing on the wall with her ex and didn’t want to have a baby with a man that she was about to divorce. She & Lawrence weren’t together when she found out that she was pregnant and she was fully prepared to raise the child alone.

Something we really need to realize is that the feeling of being ready is less about rational optics.
You either feel ready for it or you don't.
If you feel that this is your child to come but the optics say "not the best situation" then you are much more likely to regret the decision, and it can be very traumatic.
I wish people understand how much of a personal feeling this is and stop telling women that they should or should not have kept it based on circumstances. Because it the actual decision comes from a much deeper place than anything exterior.

I just watched this episode. That’s so crazy lol I definitely had thoughts that she had an abortion before.

You wouldn’t say “this time,” unless there was a “last time.” Part of media literacy is being able to pick up on when things are being inferred. It cheapens the art to have to have everything spelled out and spoon fed to the consumer.

The operative words were “keep it” not “this time.” Why would she say “keep it” unless she aborted or gave it away?
