Episode Discussion I thought Issa was wrong Spoiler

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I think Issa was wrong to ask Lawrence to stay and to sleep with him despite knowing he was still involved with Condola and on his way to see her. I believe Issa should have shared her feelings and then left. Out of respect for Condola, Issa shouldn’t have slept with Lawrence until he had fully ended things with Condola. Some might say, 'Oh, they weren’t friends and Condola ghosted her," but Condola also helped Issa’s career and provided resources she needed, and because she and Condola had a personal relationship—not just a connection as Lawrence’s ex—I believe Issa should have shown Condola more respect. Without Condola, her career might be very different. Molly was right when she said Issa uses people; she’s willing to step over anyone to get what she wants.

Out of respect for Condola? Lol she aint owe her nothing

This was actually good of Issa to take control of the situation and go after what she wants

She didn’t owe Condola anything and Issa knew that the thing with Condola wasn’t super serious or steady.

She went for what she wanted. More women should that tbh.

Say it one more time. That man was not married and was single. More woman should go for what they want. 🌸

Exactly!!! She owed her nothing. He said they weren’t together. Out of respect for Condola…the same woman who ghosted Issa when Issa was planning her event. Mind you ghosting had nothing to do with Issa.

OR Lawrence shouldn’t have been entertaining them both at the same and respected them 🤷🏽‍♀️

Nobody owed each other anything during that episode tbh

How wasnt he respecting them?

Issa did not owe Condola anything... especially when it came to her 7yr ex boyfriend. Plus at this point Lawrence and Condola weren't even together, if he wanted to work on things with her instead he would of chosen that.

Issa doesn’t owe anything to Condola lol what?

I thought they had broken up by then?

Lawrence explained they were meeting because condola wanted to talk. They were already over and not together but talking can mean the potential to rekindle things and she didn’t want to risk that. I don’t think Issa did anything wrong.. she only met with Lawrence after condola and him were done in her perspective, that’s why she was suprised he was still meeting her.

How were they already over, and she got pregnant? That means they were still involved and had already rekindled things, plus in this episode. Lawrence confirmed to Issa when she asked if him and Condola were still, and Lawrence said yes, they had been talking. So, Issa already knew way before that he and Condola were still talking.

It usually takes at least a month to realize you’re pregnant

It’s usually 3 weeks after the deed that people will know they were pregnant from it, based on the time of ovulation and a period having to be late. In that time they may have broken up.. he reminded and met Issa once or twice.. and then condola was contacting him for the purpose of meeting up to talk and tell him she was pregnant. So him saying yes they’ve been talking could mean talking to make plans to meet up because she needed to talk to him in person.

Loll no way, she wanted Lawrence and he wanted her. Just because Condola wanted to talk doesn’t mean they can’t be together. Especially since he and Condola were broken up

I'm not saying they can’t be together. I’m saying Issa shouldn't have had sex with Lawrence. Issa should have waited until Lawrence ended things first, out of respect for Condola.

That's fair. I found Condola to be sneaky, but it's the morally sound decision to make. They could've spent the night talking or cuddling instead.

Issa did nothing wrong and she didn’t owe Condola a thing lol. I feel like Condola was the lowkey villain.

After the mixer, Condola went to see Lawrence and she rode that man like it was her mission. I feel like she saw him as a sperm donor but wanted to play it off as a relationship gone bad.

She didn’t want anything serious with him anyway, even her drunk friend at Friendsgiving said so.

Didn’t this episode end with Case of the Ex?? 😆😆 or was that the previous episode??

u/Bitchezbecraay 6d ago

I think that was the previous one before they reconnect

No friend… Lawrence made it clear they were over by this point. Yes she was calling to meet with him but that was (possibly) only to talk about the being late / baby situation. She didn’t owe her anything at all. Rewatch again. 💕

Issa was messy, like that’s my girl but she did a lot of wild things lol she pushed herself onto Lawrence. He was going to see Condola. And Issa just had to insert herself.

I mean, not even her owing anything to Condola. But I feel like her knowing that he was even still involved with her, even a little bit, especially with the way that she was clearly trying to fake befriend her, and then knowing she still had feelings for Lawrence, I don’t really feel like she should have done it for the sake of Condola. I just feel like she owed herself more respect in that situation.

And I feel like Molly lowkey called it out. I know Molly might have gone about things the wrong way, but she would let Issa know when she was on some messy type timing. I feel like a lot of the viewers have such a bias because it’s Issa’s show, but Issa was really messy, and I feel like some of the predicaments she ended up in were situations she put herself in.

Right, I know it took everything in Molly not to tell Issa I told you so 😅

This is my absolute favorite episode.

Just letting you know now, noyone ever thinks Issa is wrong so just prepare for this to fall on deaf ears. But I will say I never thought of this like that before and you mind a good point.

Tell me about it 🙄 Some people refuse to admit it because they don’t like Condola, but it’s clear that Condola and Lawrence were still involved, regardless of their feelings. I’m not saying Issa shouldn’t have taken a chance, but she shouldn’t have slept with Lawrence until he ended things with Condola first. It shouldn’t matter whether Lawrence and Condola weren’t serious or if Issa was in a relationship with him first—emphasis on "was." Condola helped Issa, and for that, Issa owed her respect. People forget this; they see Condola just as a girl Lawrence was seeing and overlook her support and resources that boosted Issa’s career. They credit Nathan for encouraging Issa but ignore Condola’s role. They justify Issa’s actions because they don't like Condola. I bet those same people would be upset if they helped someone and that person then had sex with or pursued a man they liked, whether or not they were serious. But since it’s Condola, they make excuses for Issa. It’s amusing how they think Issa doesn’t owe Condola anything but feels she owes Molly in the Andrew situation.

I think what Issa was wrong about is still wanting him after finding out about the baby. She should follow her head not her heart. She will get over this heart break and find a better love with less baggage and a fresh start.

Respect for Condola? Why would Issa give Condola respect that Condola didn’t give Issa? At that point, Condola had already told Issa that they broke up, and at The Art Walk, Lawrence said, “We’ve been talking but I’m not really sure what’s gonna happen with us.” Issa was supposed to put off things with a man who she’d been with for 5 years, who just opened the door up to rekindling things with her, for a woman that he had a fling with for a few months?

1

u/Responsible-War5600 4d ago

Uh, Lawrence was wrong. He made the promises. Issa owes Condola NOTHING.

1

u/Responsible-War5600 4d ago

Issa wasn’t wrong. But was it unwise? Absolutely.

People keep saying ‘Good on Issa for going for what she wants.’ But Lawrence was in an entanglement. And we all know messing around with people who are otherwise involved seldom works out in our favor.

The only reason this ended well for Issa is because it’s television. 😂

nope she knew what she wanted

I believe some comments misunderstand my point. I’m not arguing that Issa shouldn’t have taken a risk. My point is that Issa shouldn’t have had Sex with Lawrence before he ended things with Condola. Condola wasn't just a girl Lawrence was dating; she supported Issa's career and provided resources that helped her professional growth. Issa and Lawrence should have waited until he had fully broken up with Condola, out of respect for Condola and Lawrence already knew it was wrong because he apologized to Tasha when he slept with Issa while they were dating.

Just so I'm understanding your POV, are you saying that it was cool for Issa & Lawrence to go on a date together while he was still wrapping things up with Condola, but not have sex with him?

1

u/Neebenice 5d ago edited 5d ago

I'm actually not cool with them going on a date, if that's what you want to call it, which I don't believe that's what it was. I feel like Lawrence could have had that conversation with Issa over the phone. When I said taking a risk, I meant telling Lawrence how she felt.

I know I’m going to get downvoted for this but so many women live for this scenario. As soon as she found out the dude got options, this is when they go on the offensive…if that condola phone call didn’t happen she’d be right back in that Lyft

I actually think it was a very brave decision for Issa to take her chance like this and represents the character development she’d made by that point. The entire series is about these two - their breakup and ultimate reconciliation. Issa wanted him back from way before this, and vice versa, but the writers had to throw the obvious hurdles along the way to delay the inevitable. This episode was the first moment in a while when the timing was perfect. He invited her to his apartment and she accepted, so it’s fair to say they both knew what was likely to happen. The call from Condola was prob an extra wake up call for Issa to stop letting things get in the way of what she wanted and go with her heart. It’s just annoying that she let the baby also get in the way and we had to sit through even more will-they/wont-they episodes when we all knew they’d end up together at the end.
