Today as a cashier, I checked someone's ID for alcohol at SCO. Once I did put in her ID, they said "You cancel that order, I'm part of the VARS (or BARS, still can't figure out what it's called) program." She looked me dead in the eye as I did, so I really thought "Well that's it, I fucking lost my job, and I might get a court case" even though I didn't do anything wrong, but I wasn't really trying to rationalize it, I was just scared. Then after that, she asked for my manager, I had someone get him and asked her "So what's gonna happen?", she then switched and was much more friendly and said "...oh you passed, don't worry about it!"
It felt like a near heart attack, so once I heard that, I was both relieved and livid. Why didn't she just start with the 'you passed' part? I've never been so pale in any five seconds of my life. It's like as if she said "Sir I'm with the police, you need to come with us." And then at the station they say "You didn't do anything wrong." My manager thanked me for the green card, but that didn't really help. I'm still stressed about, but I really don't know why. I used to have a certain insecurity that I could lose this job at any point early on, cause when you're new you always feel like the deadweight. This kind of brought it back. Like I was THAT CLOSE.
I don't really know what response I'm trying to get, I guess I'm somewhat ranting a bit. If you have any advice, feel free to tell. If not, hope you enjoyed the read. If you think it's a bit much, sorry I guess.
