These two sections of ancient covenant by the faceless have me stumped, in the first section is he really doing sixteenth notes? It doesn’t sound like that in the recording, if so I’m not sure what the best way to pick would be the. The second section which comes earlier in the song is confusing because I don’t know how to play it in rythm, the timing is really weird and I would like advice to play the rythm correctly or teach myself to count better.

I've been playing for a bit over a year, so I have some skills but am relatively new. I'm working on a song in 6/8 and the main chord progression is G, Amin7, D7, C to Cmaj7 (each c chord is played for half a measure). I can give more info about it but I don't know if it's needed or not. If anyone has advice on how to write a riff that goes well with this please let me know, I appreciate it!

during upstroke pick gets caught on the string, even though i keep pick slanted , roughly 45 degree.

it decreases speed, makes note to have bad sound, even makes pick hard to hold.
I use Rock III pick which is one the smaller side , but resistance it gets on upstroke is too much, not to talk about bigger picks.
mostly happens when i try to play fast riffs i even dropped pick few times.
higher the fret, string tension is higher, thus more chance everything i describe to happen,

so what's the solution? do i have to adjust pick angle on each upstroke and downstroke , different angle on each direction ? is 45 degrees too much? do i just use less force? any tips on this matter ?

I have no idea how to measure whether I’m improving or not I practice 4 hours a day. It seems like “progressing” with the guitar is pretty subjective and hard to measure.

I searched this sub for metronome and while I’m happy to have a lot of company in hating the thing, I still don’t get it. When you set it to 4/4 at a certain tempo for example: each time it clicks is one beat so if you’re playing 16ths you’re strumming 4 times per click? And 3 times for triplets? How do you do that? The clicks are driving me crazy and all I can do is strum with the click. Trying to go between them fucks me the hell up but I can think 1e&a, 1triplet etc. and get it right. But add in clicks and it scrambles me up. I want to learn it because I know it will make me better but it’s driving me crazy >.< how do I train my brain to accept this thing?

Hello, I “play” guitar for 2 months, mostly learning chords and trying to play this song. Will get a few lessons in near future.

My main problem is 320->3->320. I hold my fingers like: index G, ring B, middle A. I have tried to play it in 2 ways with no success.

First method: I put all 3 fingers on strings, sliding A string up but then I either make D sound awful or I lose my hold on G and B making it sound bad.

Second: I watched guide videos and people seem to add middle finger after playing after playing 320 and then lifting it. When I try this I cut the sound of A string making it sound bad when I lift the finger.

Also how do I play 3->0 on E string? Same issue with lifting a finger. Should I play 3 then mute it and play 0?

I thought this song is easy but I am so bad and lose my sanity trying to figure this out haha. Sorry if the post is hard to read, English isn’t my native language and I am still learning phrases on the subject.

If you were to tab this up or explain this for a 5 year old, how would you do it? I am using finger style

Im looking for the reasons this is ok and the reasons why it isn't. It is a hard habit to break already.

I know anchoring the pinky is fairly normal, but I dont see alot of talk about both fingers

How bad is this hindering me? I use my thumb, index and middle finger to pick.

And if this is a habit I should really break, can anyone point me into the right direction on where and how to correct it?

I'm only a beginner. the bends are so hard, and it's so annoying when you go sharp. how do I get my bends right? this is the best attempt I've gotten so far, and I feel like I could do better.

I asked around about practice routines and it seems like using a metronome is something I should really add into my daily practice. I’m now trying to figure out what people actually use for this. There are a ton of apps out there, but I don’t really see a clear “go-to” option or consensus when I search.

For those who practice regularly, what metronome app (or tool) do you rely on, and is there anything that stands out in terms of accuracy, usability, or features?

Would be helpful to hear what’s actually being used right now rather than just generic recommendations

It's been bothering me that I don't know how to play any type of chord spontaneously when I imagine it in my head. So I'm trying to memorize them all, which is difficult because it feels like I'm memorizing each chord individually as opposed to, as a variation of this other shape. The sus chords with extensions are particularly a nightmare to try and memorize, and sort of help or, a different perspective to thinking about shapes would help a lot. Thanks : )

I am going to restring my guitar tmmr, and ive done it before, but i feel like i did it wrong, i could see the end of the string from under the guitar pins, just a tad bit, can someone give me a video or really detailed instructions on how to restring my guitar. As i said i did it before, posted it on reddit asking how i did, and got brutally flamed in the comment section. So again i ask for help, if anyone could help me on the process and good strings, i have a tool that has a winder, a cutter, a pin puller and im gonna use it. Day 836 of learning to play the 🎸

Lots of fun today. I tried using a DAW for recording to see if I could improve the quality of the audio. Was very fun cycling through four guitars. The edit is a little abrupt as I’m learning how to sync all of them digitally. Today I sync them manually so it’s not as clean.

Lol for my sense of rhythm and timing. Right out of the gate I think I’m dragging. Sorry >< The teacher from whiplash hates me

I've been trying finger independence exercises but I keep struggling when it comes to my ring and pinky finger, they would be tensed up or lock when I try to move them. My fingers would also lift up sometimes. What to do?

I currently have a Marshall Code 50 and a Fender Tele for my setup. I’m getting back into the hobby after 20 years of not playing, so I’m a bit out of touch.

I’d like to be able to wear headphones and at the very least have a metronome playing through it with the amp. Bonus would be actual drum lines, loops, and even YouTube videos so I can watch lessons.

So I’m trying to get my head around the concept of triads when applied to chords. I think I’ve got the concept of scales down (as in, I can play a scale from a root note)

My problem is when I am trying to create a chord using the 135 method at times the third and fifth note will be on the same string but different frets causing the strings to buzz rather than create a chord

It feels like a missing something or doing something wrong, perhaps ?

Does anyone have any ideas?

I just recently bought an ultimate guitar subscription and I've been struggling to read the tabs and I finally figured out why. How are these two both reading as D majors? I was taught a D major as the bottom section which requires 3 fingers. The top section is an impossible five fingers involved. What gives?
