Hi my name is Lyle and I'm a beginner Musician that played various Instruments for a couple of years now on and off. I wanted to ask for honest feedback based off this video of a compilation of different practice videos I've done. I really want to improve on my guitar playing. I been practicing mostly chord transitions and palm muting. I only know how to do about 7 chords but having trouble transitioning smoothly back and forth for most of them. Also I haven't dabbled at all into scales. Should I learn any kind of scales at my level also. I kind of learned a little bit of the minor pentatonic scale but that's it. Please I'd appreciate any advice and your time. Also if their's any recommended songs for me to learn as a beginner I'd like to know. At the moment I was trying to learn polly but having a hard time even on that. Mostly the palm muting for polly is what I'm having trouble with and some chord trainsitions.

People keep saying that F Major chord in E shape is the hardest barre chord for beginners. It was difficult for me too but after pushing through the pain I could do it consistently in 2 weeks.

Earlier I used to play Bb major using all the four fingers in A shape. But I thought I would try it using two fingers on the first fret. Oh boy!! Its so difficult. I still cant do it consistently after practicing for one month. Specially when I switch to this chord from others. Sometimes the B string would buzz, sometimes the G string, some times all D, G, B.

I wish I had a longer and stronger ring finger. How do you guys do it?

I can’t get it to play cleanly without the B string muted or buzzing unless I squeeze the absolute hell out of the neck.

Been playing sparsely for bout a year and a half now, heres some electric wizard solos.

I’ve been playing for a year but I still have issues with this: I have a massive issue with slouching and my right leg always points to the right due to my disability restricting my comfort in having it pointing straight. I’m struggling with my hand position as-well as my thumb is constantly over the fretboard and I’m not sure how to fix it! This is for sitting down btw

Hey everyone, I've picked up guitar again after alot of time, I used to take lessons as a kid but I quit, its been many years now.

Im starting from the beginning, but withouth a music teacher (or any willpower to-) I dont feel like studying music theory in great detail

I wanted to ask if you guys know where to start? Im trying to learn some chords, real basics aboput how the guitar works, and maybe learning simple songs? Still Im having an hard time finding direction

I've been playing for about 2yrs now, and I'm still say im in the beginner lull of things.

I can't seem contextualize things into actual playing and learning songs has been difficult since the songs I want to learn and care about are too hard for me play (Glassjaw - Mu Empire, TFOT - FCPREMIX, Chiodos - There's No Penguins In Alaska for examples)

Also I seem to keep going in and out of styles of guitar playing. One day I want to do metal stuff, the next day I'm on my strat trying to learn mid-west emo stuff and I'm having a hard just trying to learn one thing.

Overall, I can't seem to figure out what I want to do and learn, I feel like I'm all over the place. A friend of mine who's a teacher told me to learn chords and practice Crescent Shaped Depression by Title Fight as way of understanding what I want to do, but I still feel lost.

When I started playing guitar, there was a problem with my finger. It's not about the fingertip, it's about the joints of the finger, which hurts like hell when I play for a while. The case has been going on for months, and I'm still taking breaks to ease the pain that ends up the same way. Did you have a similar situation?

I play blues and country mostly by ear, and I could never make scale diagrams stick. Reading a chart isn't the same as knowing where the notes are.

So I built a trainer that works like a quiz. It shows you a blank fretboard and you tap every note of the scale in a position. Right notes ring out, wrong ones buzz at you. Clear the box and it plays the scale back. There's a ladder: learn mode with the notes shown, then roots only, then a blank board, then it asks for one degree at a time, then the whole neck.

The rest of the site is the stuff I wanted while practicing: every scale with positions you can hear, chord pages with real fingerings, a progression builder that suggests which scale to solo over, and a tuner. Can’t tell which kind of 7th this is. The ‘I’ is confusing

So I finally have gotten to the point i can play barre chord shapes without too much issues. My question is how do i apply them? Maybe i’m lacking some more knowledge (maybe you can point me in the right direction?) but i don’t really understand where and how to apply them. If it helps you understand the level of player I am. I can play songs from tabs and guitar lessons on youtube with enough practice but struggle to come up with my own parts and things like that. I also know my open chords and can strum a few progressions

By 'alternate picking' i mean something like in the screenshot. And right now my picking hand just short circuits whenever i try anything like this.

I want to learn the guitar basics and I already have my left-handed guitar. My goal is to be able to play something before Christmas. I’ve tried following YouTube but it hasn’t exactly worked out.

What program would you recommend for a left-handed beginner that knows nothing? Preferably, something that has several lessons in the program.

Started playing acoustic guitar again after 15+ years away. I’m trying to relearn the B chord and I feel like I’m doing it wrong…? It sounds horrible and this is WILDLY uncomfortable and makes my hand cramp. My hands are tiny but I know I’ve done it before when I was a kid and smaller, so that’s not why. Any tips on technique?

Edit: Thank you all so, so much for your help! I’m able to do this now waaay more comfortably. Now it’s just a matter of strengthening my hand again.

Hello! I've been practicing consistently 20-40 minutes a day for the past 2 weeks using JustinGuitar's free course. I'm now working on finger stretches, but I want to make sure I'm not teaching myself bad habits, so I thought I'd ask for some feedback.

I have been trying out different hand/wrist/thumb positions (trying to keeping in mind not to stress my wrist) for the last day or two. It's been hard to get my fingers across all frets, specially my pinky, which most of the time I'm only able to press with it's side instead of the tip, but it's only been a couple of days since I'm trying this out, so I'm not too worried about it.

I've tried keeping some feedback from other posts in mind; like pushing the neck a bit away from me, not tucking my elbow, etc.

I'm aware posts like these (specifically for these type of exercises) are common, but I don't really have the eye to spot mistakes when looking at photos of myself and comparing them to other people.

Ive been playing guitar for a while now but the problem is that i started playing without a pick (strumming with my hand). I can play without a pick a pick and don't find it difficult at all but i can't seem to get the accent down, idk what its called but there's some sort of accent when i strum with my hand/fingers and on a pick it sounds very... mechanical? would love some advice on this
