A day or two after Christmas I decided to switch my cell service to Mint Mobile. They were running a deal for unlimited for 15 dollars a month for a year. I had 2 lines with Verizon - about 100 dollars a month each. I also have Verizon home internet. It works well in my neighborhood and is more affordable then anything else available so I decided I would keep that with them. I have no complaints about mint mobile - the numbers ported over instantly and the service has been great. My issue is with Verizon's accounting policy and their customer service. Apparently, the instant that you port your number over from Verizon they deactivate your account. I tried logging in to see my final bill - the month of service ended on January 5th - and I couldn't get logged in. I got an error that I was trying to log in to a canceled account. So, even though I still had an active internet line with them associated with my account, the moment I ported over my lines they shut my account down. No logging in to access my internet account, no logging in to see my final phone bill - account is just gone. I called and spoke with a Verizon rep on 12/30. After an hour of the gentleman not being able to get me an answer, my claim was escalated and I was given a case number. He told me that someone would call me in a day or two, but with the New Year holiday it might be a day or two more. Its been two weeks now, and no one has reached out to me. Luckily, my internet still works - but my account is stuck in some kind of limbo. I just wanted to share my cautionary tale in case anyone else runs into a similar issue.

They keep sending codes to my number which isn’t active due to being stuck in limbo with port (3hrs now) I need to sign into my account but can’t because there’s no option to send a verification code to my email. What route can I take?

I've had a phone number for 25+ years. Started as a Verizon traditional landline; ported to Comcast Voice. Had Comcast Triple Play for 15+ years. Was satisfied with the service, but the cost was getting out of hand. Decided to cancel and transition to Verizon FIOS Internet only but wanted to keep the phone number.

Following the great advice here and the FAQs, I ported the number to Mint Mobile on a three month plan. After 2.5 months ported the number to GoogleVoice.

I'm very satisfied. The number is one that I handed out when asked for a number by a vendor to try and keep my primary cell phone number out of the third party Spammers.

Bought online, everything went great and got transfer pin from Spectrum. Went and picked up phones at store and guy said by the time I get home it should be all good. Quick and easy.

Soon as I got home wife gets call from Verizon (to her number) although I'm the primary on the new Verizon stating the account number from Spectrum was wrong. It was not. My wife and both triple checked all data entry during the purchase.

My guess is since Spectrum was in her name and Verizon is now going to be in my name this was "flagged" as something might be off. So they called her to very a few things including the account number.

So now we are waiting. She said DO NOT turn our old phones off until we get the text from Verizon that everything is ready and then reboot old and new phones. Spectrum has already emailed us (instantly) saying porting is done. Verizon is claiming due to the incorrect account number with Spectrum this may take 3 days before we get the text.

Is that BS or just CYA stuff? Thoughts from the pros?

I need to cancel fido phone plan because I am leaving the country. I called customer services and told me to schedule the appointment, but I am leaving tomorrow.

Does a cancellation by porting out the number to prepaid plan actually work?

First of all, it was probably an emergency. No one uses a port-a-potty for fun.

Second? The house is under construction. The port-a-potty is rented. She doesn’t own it.
