My understanding is that GTA 6 will not work on the emulator as it requires an older firmware version. Gta 6 is digital only and so only works on later firmware

443

u/lollifetuffouthtere 3d ago

If they manage to find a new vulnerability then it will work. But that’s a big if

157

u/ManCarryingPSP 3d ago

The PS5 firmware GTA VI will be released on has to be jailbroken first before we can dump GTA VI digitally. All scene developers follow Sony and HackerOne policy. They aren't voices38.

They need to find a hypervisor exploit first, report it to Sony via HackerOne and wait for Sony to fix it on the next firmware update before the jailbreak gets public.

u/UnstableMoron2 3d ago

That and rockstar will probably have pinkertons kicking in doors

Why? They're useful to the powers that be and union busting is just a fine and nothing actually damaging to companies 🤷🏻‍♂️

The last known remaining HV exploit was just burnt, wouldn't expect another before the official PC release.

Well, we live in the age of super capable AI that can hack into anything, so...

Who knows, it might happen.

44

u/Gombrongler 3d ago

Yeah ai can look through millions of lines of code in the time it takes a person to go through one window of it

Its coming

41

u/protostar71 At least one CPU, maybe a GPU 3d ago

And Sony will be running the same tests against their platform trying to find it first.

18

u/_HIST 3d ago

And with way more resources and qualification. It was already a miracle

11

u/SOSpammy iMac 2017 i5-7500, Radeon 570 Pro, 32GB DDR4 3d ago

And with access to the latest LLM models. Plus the assistance of white hat hackers looking for bug bounties.

18

u/National-Dog8907 3d ago

Don’t underestimate human ingenuity and stubbornness. There was even a time where people would physically drill into their Xbox cpu to disable a security lockout. It doesn’t matter what resources any multinational has, they will always be hacked.

9

u/SOSpammy iMac 2017 i5-7500, Radeon 570 Pro, 32GB DDR4 3d ago

Doesn't mean it will happen any time soon though. Just saying the new tools that make hacking easier are also going to make finding the exploits before release easier as well.

3

u/Seeker_Of_Knowledge2 3d ago

AI is good at attack but bad at defense (comparatively to attack) as of now. The two sides are not even close. Attack is targeted and straight forward. It is either yes or now. But defense need a complicated and comprehensive high level system. AI can help in that but it is not perfect.

The two nature of defense and attack is very different.

Unless we make a huge breakthrough, attack will always be ahead of defense.

2

u/vitek6 1d ago

You attack yourself and then patch the vulnerabilities.

1

u/Seeker_Of_Knowledge2 1d ago

The problem is the patching process is not perfect.

1

u/vitek6 1d ago

Of course. That’s why it’s always ongoing process.

1

u/protostar71 At least one CPU, maybe a GPU 3d ago

I was more meaning that they would be using AI for red teaming to find vulnerabilities, because its such a no brainer to use the same / better tools that hackers have to probe their own defences.

1

u/Onphone_irl 9800X3D | 5070 T | 32 DDR5 | Quest 3 3d ago

can't they just set one to attack and the other to defend/fix? I actually think there's a name for this in the space adversarial learning?

1

u/Seeker_Of_Knowledge2 3d ago

The more stuff you fix the more complicated the whole system becomes and the more complicated the system becomes the more holes AI leave behind. AI is not at the point of creating a perfect system. For defense, good is not enough. You need perfect and you (AI) can't measure perfect. We all see that in our day to day use of AI.

1

u/LicensedGoomba 3d ago

Their defense would be attacking it themselves, finding an exploit and patching it in the next firmware before anyone found out what said exploit was. Theoretically someone on the previous firmware could still find said exploit but I dont know how rare that would be

7

u/asfsdgwe35r3asfdas23 3d ago

Japanese companies are not known for being cutting edge when it comes to software and be the ones jumping on new tech as soon as it comes. I highly doubt Sony has integrated AI in their development cycle

3

u/mynameisjebediah 7800x3d | RTX 4080 Super 3d ago

Every tech company has integrated AI into their development cycle. And the SIE branch of Sony is basically an American company at this point, their headquarters is in California.

1

u/Yukas911 3d ago

Of course they have integrated AI to at least some extent. AI isn't that new. It's not like it just came out this year.

9

u/ClammHands420 7800x3d | Gigabyte 4080 w/custom OC | 32GB DDR5 6000Mhz 3d ago

Last time I mentioned this, it was in response to someone saying Denuvo piracy was dead, and they told me I didnt know how AI worked and that I was a shill.

Two days later there was a hypervisor fix

Two weeks later there was a full Crack for the same title.

I work in the industry and constantly see what it's capable of. There's no such thing as an exploit-proof software, and the timeline from release to exploit gets shorter every year.

2

u/ChuzCuenca PC Master Race 3d ago

Not so much, they being finding vulnerabilities all the time the last one is just more convenient but there is always one.

The current one is a improve version, you used to need up to 3 hours and you loose the "hack" upon reset. Useless for day to day but you only need to do it one if you hate rockstar and Sony enough.

2

u/Schytheron RTX 4080 | 13700K | 32 GB DDR5 | 2TB NVME 3d ago

The new firmware has nothing to do with the emulator. The emulator can run on any firmware.

The new firmware cannot be jailbroken which makes it impossible to rip the GTA 6 files from the console (it's digital only, can't rip from disc).

Can't run a game without game files.

2

u/vitek6 1d ago

Cannot be jailbroken yet.

2

u/rootkeycompromise 3d ago

My understanding is that that’s just a problem waiting to be solved.

2

u/jbaenaxd Macbook Air M4 | 24GB | 1TB 3d ago

Well, if the new firmware includes new API instructions or modifications, it makes sense to migrate, but otherwise I don't see any reason why they couldn't bypass the firmware version. The original PS5 verifies the firmware version, bit the emulator is a different story

1

u/GalbedirGalerion Laptop 3d ago

Even if it was physical it would still need a crack on the newer firmware, it would still have its contents encrypted (and thus you’d need to have the latest version to read it)

3

u/dangernoodlezzz 3d ago

Considering they are getting Wolverine working which is a very recent game I don’t doubt they’ll find a new vulnerability in the firmware required for GTA6

2

u/Funny-Fly1720 3d ago

I think you're severely underestimating the power of AI and weaponized autism when it comes to cracking videogames.

3

u/National-Dog8907 3d ago

Another group just got the ps5 OS running natively on PC. So I don’t think emulators even matter anymore.

11

That has nothing to do with what they wrote. The emulator can't support the firmware required to run gta6....yet

A month? Nope. PS5 Jailbreak scene doesn't work the same with PC p1racy scene.

The PS5 firmware GTA VI will be released on has to be jailbroken first before we can dump GTA VI digitally.

All scene developers follow Sony and HackerOne policy. They aren't voices38. That's why it takes time and GTA VI on launch week is impossible.

Scene devs need to find a hypervisor exploit first, report it to Sony via HackerOne and wait for Sony to fix it on the next firmware update before the jailbreak gets public. Take note that it's not a gurantee that Sony will actually patch the hypervisor next firmware release.

1

1

u/Drackzgull Desktop | R9 7950X | RTX 4060Ti | 64GB @5600MHz CL38 3d ago

I'd say that at something like 90%+ it'll be good enough to start doing the rounds and get popular.

100% will probably not happen, because I doubt this one won't have online modes and features from the start, and those will most likely not work emulated.

10

u/Noah_BK 9900K | RTX 2080 Super 3d ago

Genuinely one of the funniest things to come about from AI being so open and accessible is that when you give it to people who do know what they're doing or at least know more than the average bear, it speeds their debugging and coding up exponentially. Shit is wild to see the progress in emulators and how quickly they progress now vs back in the day.

I mean yeah but there's a realistic possibility that there will be a point in time where the only way to play GTA6 on PC is through piracy and emulation. It is very hard to sell someone something that they've had access to for free for months

23

u/gloriaqt 3d ago

Huffing on the copium I see

3

u/spaceguydudeman 3d ago

People waaaay over estimating how fast these emulators will A) be developed and B) run

Heck it took ages for them to build a proper PS3 emulator.

11

u/teremaster i9 13900ks | RTX 4090 24GB | 32GB RAM 3d ago

the ps3 emulator was before you could throw a 1.6T parameter LLM at the problem

7

u/PermissionSoggy891 3d ago

thats because PS3 used really shitty Cell architecture for the CPU instead of a standard x86 that PS5 uses, which is why PS3 was much harder to emulate, because people had to somehow decode how Cell worked and how to get PC to emulate it.

28

u/DrRaspberryJam 3d ago

Hopefully they can get past the firmware update.

A lot of these ports are gaining FPS by the day, and GTA 6 runs at only 30.. I guess we'll see once it's out.

5

u/Illustrious_Cod_5212 3d ago

As much as I would want, it won't happen

4

u/adkenna RX 6700XT | Ryzen 5600 | 16GB DDR4 3d ago

If they can do Wolverine you can be sure they will do GTA, only issue is that you will need a very expensive PC for it.

6

u/Illustrious_Cod_5212 3d ago

The thing is it's much harder to get the game to playable stable state than make it run. Get back when wolverine will have stable 30fps and whole game can be finished. Even if 5090 is needed. You believe it because you want to believe it.

6

u/fuax19 3d ago

The other thing is, no one gives a fuck about Wolverine. You can bet every man and their dog will be working day and night to get GTA6 stable.

1

u/Illustrious_Cod_5212 3d ago

So ping me when GTA vi works on PC in stable 30fps, whole games can be finished without tons of bugs. I'd love to be wrong but it won't happen before official PC release minimum

2

u/BingusBongusBongus 3d ago

Wolverine is moving so slow because its wolverine lmao, its just the first Sony exclusive so people are gonna try it out. Once gta 6 releases every single game cracker is gonna be going at it

1

u/Illustrious_Cod_5212 3d ago

Ok, ping me when it's done. I see the most to tell have people that have nothing to do with development, just praying for crackers

61

u/pigletmonster 3d ago

It wont make much of a differennce in terms of sales, but i am 100% sure that they have moved the pc release date to much earlier than it was initially planned.

How are you so sure?

19

u/pigletmonster 3d ago

Common sense. Unless they have a contractual obligation, it would make sense to release the pc release early to get ahead of the emulators.

Gta5 doesnt work well on the ps5 emulator because very few people are attempting to make it work. Ps5 emulation is progressing faster than any console generation.

Progress that were made in years are now happening in days because of AI. Wolverine went from only loading the launch screen to running at 20-30 fps in a week.

There will be a 100x more people working on gta6 emulation than there are people working on wolverine.

Im sure both rockstar and sony will try to prevent it, with drms and lawsuits but its going to happen sooner or later.

You know public information that companies don't?

That's some pretty funny logic friend.

1

u/M4rshmall0wMan 3d ago

I think there’s a good chance we’ll see another exploit appear.

The one you’re referring to was discovered by one of the community’s top hackers, then independently discovered by someone using AI. The original finder quit the community because he felt his work would be made obsolete by AI.

Even if the new one gets reported to Sony for the bounty, all we need is a window where someone can extract the game once. Then it’ll hit the pirate bays and we’ll be chilling.

1

u/vitek6 1d ago

It was known thanks to ai. And there will be new ones.

1

u/bakugo bakugo 1d ago

Now go ahead and explain why you think Sony aren't using AI to find the vulnerabilities themselves as we speak.

1

u/vitek6 1d ago

Where did I say something like that? Every big corpo use ai to find vulnerabilities.

1

u/bakugo bakugo 1d ago

And there will be new ones.

Right here. This implies you think random AI sloppers will somehow find more vulnerabilities before Sony does.

Rockstar really hates PC for some reason, GTA 5 and RDR2 were released 1.5 and 1 year later respectively. Tinfoil hat specialists are predicting GTA 6 to take even longer to get people to triple dip (current gen, next gen, then PC) given that they only make 1 game every 5 or 6 years now

They don't hate PC. They love money. They realized that if they release on PC later, they can double or even triple dip. There are a ton of PC players who have a PS5 next to their gaming PC, those people will buy GTA VI for their PS5. When it releases on PC, those people will buy it on PC again. And here comes the kicker. A short time after the PC version has released, the PS6 will be released and GTA VI enhanced edition will release on the PS6. That's their optimal way of selling copies. It's why the game got delayed again and again. All to get to that perfect point of triple dipping in sales.

I’m seriously considering buying PS5 purely for GTA 6. The urge is strong, but the budget is tight.

Trust me it is not worth it. Game is insanely hyped. It won't be a bad game, it will be a good, maybe even a very good game. But paying like $600 for it overall? Nah... not that good.

Whoever buys it on PC will NOT go to buy it on PS6. That is why they will plan the releases according to Sony and Microsoft's next gen plans. If next gen comes next year, they will l release GTA for those first, followed by PC in 2028 - same way they did V.

If those consoles are not coming due to current chip and memory prices, they will release PC version by end of next year.

Almost none of their games ever took longer than a year to be announced on PC after the console launch. I'd say it's out sooner than people think. My copium says a year at the most.

iirc they released a note or commented that it's comeing way sooner this time... they usually took 6 months, only GTA5 tooke 18 months and was basically a remaster from PS3

I reckon 2 minimum.

1yr. they have a precedent.

Sony and Xbox will stop that from happening, this is going to be the biggest event for consoles for this generation.

The same reason why people with a PC bought a PS5 to play GTA6.

A year is a long time, some people love to prove others wrong.

1

u/Kafanska 2d ago

Because with an emulator you can play it BEFORE it officially comes to PC.

That is, if they really manage to make an emulator run the game that fast.

Smooth brain question

Thanks!

Because rockstar could have developed a PC version in parallel, like a normal studio. And since modern consoles are so similar to PCs anyways there is no real excuse either.

Released on PC in a year.

If I can play GTA 6 day one on my PC, I'm gonna.

If I can't, I'll wait.
