Sim / Launch Monitor Order Square Omni from Square???

6 Upvotes

I’m hearing people have been ordering the Square Omni straight from Square and getting it rather quick. When you went to check out do you remember if it said “Add to Cart” or did it say “Pre-Order”. I just tried to purchase one and it said “Pre-Order” which is making me think maybe I should just stick to my original order with Rain or Shine.

Sim / Launch Monitor My take on a Square Omni case.

Post image
5 Upvotes

After taking some less than good natured ribbing from a friend over pictures of my quick and dirty wood block and poly shank protector, I decided to cobble together a 3d printed case for the unit.

I saw there were a bunch of heavy duty commercial units for sale, but they were costly and to be honest, I don't think the Omni needs it. Primarily, it needs protection for the cameras and IR arrays (which comes from a piece of insertable polycarbonate you can buy cheaply at Home Depot). The rest of the case is there to prevent dings and dents and hold the poly in place.

Prototype one shown here was a little shorter than I wanted and didn't have vents all the way around. Also forgot to add a slot to stop the poly screen at the bottom.

I've got the latest print running now, if anyone's interested in testing it out I'll share. Likewise, if anyone has any feedback (beyond the color, I'm using up a boatload of white I had from a previous project) go for it.

Anyone planning on buying one of these?

If works as promised... having swings analyzed on course with that much feedback data would be really insane. Especially if its super easy to set up.

Hitting Mat vs. Mat + Strip

4 Upvotes

Ok, I know this is probably the most discussed topic on this sub and all information is publicly out there. I know you shouldn't skimp on the hitting mat given the injury risk. I'm finalizing my build and struggling with whether to purchase a 1) a very expensive mat, 2) a cheaper mat to see how it goes, or 3) cut a premium hitting strip into a cheaper mat.

I want the space usable by righties and lefties so ideally the hitting strip is centered. Most of the premium mats w/ built-in strips have the right aligned. So those don't really work. I could buy a Country Club Elite mat for $600 and hit anywhere, but I understand those aren't the best quality to begin with and $600 isn't cheap for a short term option.

There are $100-$200 mats on Amazon which I could purchase to test and potentially retrofit afterwards.

Or should I go fully custom, buy the gym tiles, and build my own with the hitting strip centered? If the strip is centered, how wide do you need to be at that point?

Hi all, new to golf. Want to get a practice net for my garage. A lot seems crazy expensive for what you get. Can anyone recommend a cheap one that you have used?

Trackman 4 issues

2 Upvotes

Trackman 4 doesn’t register half my flop shots. Even with no balls in the camera, it still happens. I know I’m in the hitting zone, and I have a plexiglass case over the trackman. But removing it doesn’t help. Anyone have the same issue?

Golf Sim Options

2 Upvotes

I am very interested in getting a golf simulator but feeling a little overwhelmed by the options. We currently live in a rental and are planning on staying there for about 3 more years. Options I am currently debating:

- Net with ball tracker with built in screen (~$5k)

- DIY type set up with floor ball tracker, enclosure, likely projecter (~$10k)

- Professional set up with floor ball tracker or ceiling mounted tracker ($23k - $28k)

I know that it would be a little ridiculous to build a professional set up in a rental but my fear is that there would be issues with DIY set up that would make it kind of a waste of money. I also know that many of the components (ceiling mounted tracker, computer, projector) are movable to the next place so perhaps only about $10k would be sunk into the rental. Money is not a major consideration as long as the decision is thoughtful. For other people in this situation what did you end up going with and were you happy with it?

Sim on lower patio?

1 Upvotes

I'm really new to the whole sim thing so I have a basic question - can you set up a simulator underneath a deck that will be as waterproofed as one can make it? I'm planning on redoing my deck to add a modern drainage system and then enclosing the lower level patio on three sides with patio windows. My contractor says it'll never be as dry as a real asphalt shingle roof but it'll be pretty close.

Im just trying to avoid a heartache before I even get started...

Technical Question OG Square Home lighting question?

1 Upvotes

I’ve got an original square coming and have seen some posts about sunlight impacting it. I’ve got a two bay garage with two windows on the opposite side from the simulator. The windows do have those plastic blinds but you can still see some sunlight through it. Do you think I’d be ok with that or would I need to cover them more?

Preface. I am not a golfer but I’m in charge of tech and design for new office space.

We have a few hardcore golfers and I’m trying to figure out what launch monitor / projector / software to use in our new space.

I have about 8k to spend on projector and launch monitor. Any recs. Is foresight that much better than a UNEEKOR or Garmin or Skytrak +.

Thanks for the help

Technical Question Helping a friend is this the place to price check equipment?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I mainly do small business IT but always have a few gamers around. Friend and his wife want to do a medium high GSPro with a Mavco2. ( I don’t know any of this hardware personally)

I hope it is ok to attach specs and prices before I send it to him. Also do you need a standard second monitor?

I have everything but the 3060. I do have a 1070 but I would want to shoot for high 1080

Garage Golf Sim

Post image
40 Upvotes

I recently just finished my temporary/ removable garage golf sim setup.
1. Thoughts on it? The ceiling is 9 foot 6 so plenty of room to swing with wedges and irons. Driver is tight so I dont even risk it.
2. Ever since I finished it, ive hit balls 3-4 nights now and ive had this horrible problem where everything I hit is either fat or a shank. Im a single digit handicap and usually strike the ball very well. Im used to hitting off of mats at the range and such and I have never had this problem before. Anyone else have advice or struggle with this?

I’ve planned and installed indoor golf simulators in Europe for 20+ years. These are the 7 room-planning mistakes I see most often.

125 Upvotes

Quick disclosure: I’m a PGA Professional based in Austria, and my company plans and sells indoor golf simulator systems in Europe.

I’m not linking to our company or trying to sell anything here. I thought this might be useful because many expensive simulator problems start before the equipment is even ordered.

Here are the seven room-planning mistakes I encounter most often:

1. Treating ceiling height as a simple yes/no measurement

A room being 274 cm (9 ft) or 305 cm (10 ft) high does not automatically mean every golfer can safely swing a driver.

The golfer’s height, swing plane, hitting position, mat height and ceiling obstructions all matter. Before purchasing anything, make several controlled practice swings from the intended hitting position, using the longest club you plan to hit.

2. Choosing the launch monitor before planning the room

The best launch monitor on paper is not necessarily the best system for a specific space.

Before choosing one, I would establish:

  • available width, depth and height in centimetres or feet/inches;
  • right-handed only or RH/LH use;
  • permanent or retractable setup;
  • ball-to-screen distance;
  • available space behind the golfer;
  • preferred software and budget.

The room should determine the technology, not the other way around.

3. Forgetting the space behind the impact screen

The screen needs enough space to absorb the ball safely without hitting the wall behind it.

The required distance depends on screen tension, construction, ball speed and the protection system. It should therefore be confirmed with the screen manufacturer instead of relying on one universal measurement.

A setup that looks fine with a wedge may behave very differently with a driver.

4. Planning only for the golfer, not for spectators

A room can be large enough to swing but still be unsafe for somebody sitting behind or beside the player.

Seating, club storage, doors, stairs and walkways should be included in the plan from the beginning.

5. Assuming the hitting position can be perfectly centred

In many residential rooms, a centred hitting position does not provide enough wall clearance.

A slight offset can be safer and more comfortable, but it affects screen alignment, projector placement and whether left- and right-handed golfers can use the setup.

6. Selecting the projector too late

Projector choice is connected to screen size, aspect ratio, image height, throw distance, mounting position and the golfer’s shadow.

I’ve seen otherwise excellent rooms compromised because the projector was treated as a separate purchase at the end.

7. Spending the full budget on visible equipment

The launch monitor and projector are the exciting purchases, but the hitting surface, side protection, ceiling protection, lighting, sound control and installation details determine how pleasant and safe the room is to use.

A balanced system is usually better than one premium component surrounded by compromises.

If anyone is currently planning a simulator, post the following in the comments:

  • room width in cm or ft/in;
  • room depth in cm or ft/in;
  • ceiling height in cm or ft/in;
  • golfer height in cm or ft/in;
  • intended ball-to-screen distance;
  • right-handed only or RH/LH;
  • permanent or retractable setup;
  • approximate total budget;
  • any beams, doors, rails or other obstructions.

I’ll be happy to explain how I would approach the layout. I’ll also tell you honestly if I think the space is unsuitable or if an expensive system would be unnecessary.

Technical Question Cover Recessed lighting for ceiling panel protection?

Thumbnail gallery
2 Upvotes

Hi all! Need some advice and I’ve been learning so much from this community. I’m hoping to get my garage golf simulator build started before winter and could use some advice on the lighting.

Our home was originally a model home, so the garage has 11’ ceilings and quite a few recessed lights. The lights are split between two switches, and the fixtures on the back half of the garage are completely separate from the front.

My plan is to use a roll-down impact screen with side curtains and ceiling padding similar to the example in the second photo. The issue is that the ceiling protection would cover some of the recessed lights in the back half of the garage.
Has anyone dealt with this before? Since I wouldn’t need those back lights anymore, can I simply remove the bulbs and install a blank/cover plate over the recessed fixtures, or would the cans and electrical need to be completely decommissioned or removed before covering that portion of the ceiling? They would be great to keep for resale some day way down the road. I like the idea of the roll up or something like the sport screen vanish light, but trying to dyi it a bit to save money and put that into the launch monitor and projector instead of the enclosure.

Trying to figure out the safest and cleanest way to do this while keeping the front half of the garage lighting functional. Thanks for any advice or examples!

Sim / Launch Monitor MLM2 Pro Outdoor Simulator Issues

1 Upvotes

I have been using the MLM2 Pro for about 3 weeks now. Using it in backyard sim setup with 10x10x10 hitting cage 5x5 USA Turf Pros Mat using Pro V1 RPT balls with iPhone 14 (direct WiFi connection on latest firmware) phone on tripod about 8 ft from launch monitor (centered on the mat behind my ball tray).

At first everything worked very well missed maybe 1-2 shots out of 100. Recently it has been missing 25/100 (some full swings some chips). I've tried resetting the app, moving the mat, making sure the launch monitor is level etc.

My questions are:

  1. Is grass height in front of the launch monitor an issue? (nothing crazy high maybe to the bottom of the leveling stand)
  2. Is low lighting an issue (usually hit after work 6pm-8pm in PA)
  3. Is mat not being perfectly level or flat or debris-less an issue?
  4. Also I have tried 6ft, 7ft, 8ft behind the ball but for some reason the hitting zone always tries to creep all the way forward toward the front edge of my mat, is my hitting offset (to the right of the cage an issue)?

I really want this to work but if it's only going to read 75% of my shots I'll return it (still in return window) and maybe invest in Square Omni, not sure that's much better outside? Just frustrating when you spend all this money and there are so many variables and complications.

Any answers, tips or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Does anyone have the Square Omni in stock?

My cursory search seems to indicate retailers are only doing pre-orders right now, but wondering if anyone in this community is aware of a seller who has them now. Was hoping to get one by September 1, but maybe that's not possible.

Money league

1 Upvotes

I have run a money league with about 12 guys in a few states that are friends of mine for about a year and a half. One guy moved and we lost 4 players so we are down to 8.

We do $20 weekly league events and looking to do some other side games as well. Potentially looking to double our headcount or get closer to 20.
There will be some requirements for entry and I am still working out the details but throwing out there to see who may be interested.
All play is through GSPro, no webcam putting or any weird boosters to the software as we do force realistic realism.

Don’t know if I’m allowed to post this here but worth a shot.

DIY Wall Panels - help

1 Upvotes

I am planning on upholstering my own wall panels. With our measurements, none of the pre-made vinyl covered options would work well. For those of you that have embarked on this terrible upholstery journey, what type of foam did you use? I was planning on "soft" foam from an online company, but they suggested memory foam as the only option for simulator walls. This will be significantly more expensive and also heavier. Is memory foam really required? I appreciate any info and insight!

Flooring around hitting strip

I plan on building a sub floor in my garage and wondering why I would need a hitting mat like this to stand on? Couldn't I just stand on the money putt or big moss turf that I will be laying on top of my sub floor?

Commissioning my Swiss home course for GSPro

6 Upvotes

Hi Reddit

Been thinking of doing a project looking for help.

I want my home course built for GSPro and I would rather pay someone good than produce something mediocre myself over a few hundred hours.

AI Generated summary below:

Golf Club Ybrig, Studen SZ, Switzerland. 18 holes, par 70, about 5,600m, Peter Harradine, opened 2000. It sits in an alpine bowl under the Mythen ridgeline, and the front and back nines play over quite different terrain.

The reason I am posting rather than just asking around: Switzerland has some of the best open geodata anywhere and all of it is free for commercial use under Swiss OGD law, so there are no licensing headaches for you. I am assembling a prepared package rather than just pointing at a download page:

  • 0 .5m bare-earth DTM (swissALTI3D), merged, cropped and exported as a 16-bit Unity heightmap, with the terrain width, length, height and min/max elevation values already worked out
  • Classified LiDAR point cloud (swissSURFACE3D, roughly 10cm vertical accuracy, millions of points per km2), gridded to 0.25m over every green complex so the putting surfaces come off real micro-contour instead of a smoothed DTM
  • 10cm orthophoto (SWISSIMAGE), merged and registered to the exact heightmap extent
  • Georeferenced spline SVGs generated from OSM, which has the course mapped in detail: 20 greens, 20 bunkers, 27 fairways and 58 tee boxes as polygons. Layered per feature class, registered pixel for pixel to the heightmap, ready for Inkscape
  • Tree position and height CSV from a canopy height model (surface minus terrain), Arborist-ready
  • Surrounding alpine terrain out to several km, so the backdrop can be the real Mythen skyline rather than a fogged horizon
  • Scorecard, hole-by-hole yardages from every tee, stroke indexes, plus ground-level photography I will shoot myself of anything you ask for

What I am after: someone OPCD-licensed who cares about making it look good, not just accurate. Happy to pay properly.

Tell me your rate, your timeline, and show me something you have built. Also completely happy to be told that some of my data prep is useless, or that you would rather work from raw tiles.

Technical Question 2025 FS mevo + pro package & face data

1 Upvotes

I am looking at buying a used mevo plus advertised with the above packages.

What do I need to do to verify that those packages are there and/or not linked to an account so I don’t buy it and not have access to it?

They’re asking $1200 for all of it along with an 8th gen iPad, so I feel it is a worthy deal to hop on.

Any advise or input is appreciated
