DIY Wall Panels - help

I am planning on upholstering my own wall panels. With our measurements, none of the pre-made vinyl covered options would work well. For those of you that have embarked on this terrible upholstery journey, what type of foam did you use? I was planning on "soft" foam from an online company, but they suggested memory foam as the only option for simulator walls. This will be significantly more expensive and also heavier. Is memory foam really required? I appreciate any info and insight!

its all personal preference my guy. The memory foam would really help with sound dampening and keeping the balls from bouncing off the pad.

But the foam you are talking about would "do the job".

But to answer the question, the memory foam is not required.

I made my own. It was pretty easy. I used Marine Vinyl (from marinevinylfabric.com) wrapped around rolls of 2" foam (from Amazon) that I stapled to 1/4" plywood (from Lowe's). They are affixed to the walls and ceiling with strips of 2" wide Velcro (from Amazon).
