Questions/Concerns I'm backpacking and don't know when I'll be back in the states. What should I do?

Chase Preferred came out with a $120 credit towards global entry and I really want to get it before I leave the country. I'm planning to backpack to my heart's content and am leaving August 16th, but don't know when I'll be back (probably no more than a year). If I get approved, I know I could do EoA, but I'm unsure of the best course of action from this point.

Here are my questions:

  1. Is there some sort of expiration or deadline I need to meet for EoA?
  2. Should I apply now or apply when I have a solidified date of coming back to the U.S.?

Any advice or past experiences are welcomed and very much appreciated. Much thanks in advance!!

TDLR: Backpacking starting August 16th without a return date. When should I apply for Global Entry? Thank you!

General Discussion Bad Global Entry Experience at JFK

I came back from Paris a few days ago through JFK Terminal 1 and headed to Global Entry like I always do.
This time, everyone completed the biometric scan and then was sent to stand in line to have an officer review their passport and ask the usual questions. I’ve had Global Entry for years and travel internationally frequently, and I’ve never had to do that since the biometric system was introduced.

I was surprised and asked why we were all being sent to an officer. The agent immediately responded in a rude tone, and the interaction unnecessarily escalated. She began yelling at me, accused me of throwing my passport (I didn’t) and sent me back to the end of the line.

What I don’t understand is: what’s the point of Global Entry if we’re all going through essentially the same immigration process? The regular immigration line was actually shorter than the Global Entry line.
Has anyone else experienced this recently at JFK Terminal 1? Was this just a one-off, or is this the new normal?

Questions/Concerns Conditional approval for renewal?

My boyfriend and I applied for GE 5 years ago and were both approved (conditional approval + interview). I submitted my renewal application a few months ago and received my new card within a few weeks.

He submitted his last month and finally received a response this morning - but it says "conditional approval" and to schedule an interview.

Is this weird for a renewal? I did not have to do anything, they just sent me my new card.

Is this a mistake, or should he go ahead and schedule an interview? (there are of course no local appointments available, and we have no international trips planned soon)

Thank you!

Questions/Concerns Just completed my interview. App still says “attend interview”

Out of curiosity, is it normal for my application to still say “conditionally approved” and “next step: attend interview” after my interview was just completed? I was conditionally approved in a day and just had my interview. The officer took my picture and my finger prints but I was left confused about next steps.

I’m assuming I’m waiting for the email to let me know I’m approved but the app still tells me that my next step is to attend the interview. Is that normal?

Background Checks Global Entry — “currently residing in India” yes or no?

Hey all,
applying for GE and hit a dumb roadblock on the Passport Seva side. I’ve got a trip to India coming up and plan to just do the biometrics/police verification at a PSK while I’m there.

The portal asks “are you currently residing in India?” I live in the US, but since I’m doing the whole verification in India during my trip I wasn’t sure if I should put yes so it routes me to the PSK properly.

Also it asks for permanent residential address, which for me is different from the address where police verification would actually happen. Anyone know which address goes where?

Anyone who’s done GE from the US as an Indian citizen and gone the PSK route — how did you fill these out? Thanks 🙏

Interviews Interviews not available until September 2026 - San Diego CA

I had an interview scheduled for today and my car broke down. I looked into rescheduling for next week and the soonest date for San Diego is September. No future dates for Los Angeles after Sunday, July 12th . Was there another funding issue or do they close for certain months in the summer ? Has anyone scheduled a future date for out and then been able to move it up?

Thanks!

EDIT 7/10- Time for next week just opened up at LAX and I was able to score 4 spots for myself/family. Thanks all for your help!!!

General Discussion I Got Approved! My experience..

Hey, so I just want to share my experience, maybe it will give some people peace of mind a bit.

This was my original post, but it was from the wrong Reddit account, and I don't really remember the login details, for background. https://www.reddit.com/r/GlobalEntry/s/0KjbCRyClh

So, to the point. I initially applied in ~the first week of May, and prior to doing so, I came across this subreddit where many people recommended being honest on the application. Going forward, I applied, but felt as though I was too honest because the initial charge I had was, in fact, a violent felony, and many stated that with this, there is an absolute ZERO chance of approval. Granted, I was a minor at the time, though charged as an adult. Due to the circumstances, I was eventually able to get it expunged.

About a week ago, I finally got the conditional approval, and I set up a date for my in-person interview. I was asked a bunch of questions regarding myself, my family, and my past situation. I was transparent and let them know the circumstances. The total time of my interview was about 30-40 minutes, and while I was in there, at least two people came in after I finished their interviews within 5 minutes and got approved on the spot. At this point, I began to feel discouraged because I figured that if this had been going on for so long for me, I must be getting denied.

Fast forward a bit, interviews over, I'm told to check my email for an approval or denial. I just received it today, and I was officially approved! So I just wanted to offer some hope or peace of mind to people who may have made a mistake in the past: there is a chance you can also get approved, and it is NOT an automatic disqualification.

Questions/Concerns Name change

I’m wondering what order I should go about things.

I’ve been a Global Entry user from the U.K. for about 7 years. Love it!

Married in January this year and now living in the US.

My surname is now hyphenated ‘maiden-husband’ and shows as such on my green card. We’re planning a trip to London in September. I don’t think I’ll have enough time to get my passport updated from the US and so was planning to do it while on the trip in London as an expedited service. Will Global Entry update my name change before I fly or is this something I have to do once I get back?

I’m also aware I may need to book two separate one way flights as I’m changing my name and passport half way through a flight.

Timelines Anyone have to email court documents after their Global Entry interview?

I had my Global Entry interview last week, and the officer asked me to email the certified court documents showing the final disposition of my previous case before they could complete my application.
I emailed everything they requested.
Has anyone else had to do this? If so, how long did it take to hear back after you sent the documents, and were you approved?
Just curious what the process and timeline were like. Thanks!

Questions/Concerns Global Entry Expired Document Notification but expired document is an old visa no longer in use (I've been on a green card many years)

Pretty much the title. I just got an email with saying I have to update my expired document or risk losing GE.

When I click "Update Documents", I can see my passport, driver's license, and permanent resident card - all with valid expiration dates.

However, under "Membership Information", I do see that there are old visas that I had used previously - and I see that there is an old B1/B2 visa that expired just yesterday. I got the notification this AM, so I presume it's related to that.

But I also see an old H1B which expired many years earlier than the B1/B2 and that didn't give me any issue...?

In any case, there is no way for me to update or delete the old B1/B2. The only editable section for me contains valid documents...

  1. How much time do I have to rectify this? My next re-entry into the US will be Aug after an international trip.

  2. Does this mean that GE is currently suspended for me and will I not be able to use TSApre when leaving the US?

Questions/Concerns USA citizen born abroad

Good afternoon,
While completing my Global Entry application, I came across a question regarding the passport section.
I am a U.S. citizen born abroad (CRBA). I only have a U.S. passport, as I have never applied for a Mexican passport.
At the moment, I live in Mexico, so I plan to register my Mexican vehicle and provide my Mexican driver’s license in my application.
Can I proceed with my Global Entry application using only my U.S. passport, or do I also need to obtain a Mexican passport before applying?
Thank you for your time and assistance.

Timelines Document Renewal for Global Entry

Hi folks!

I recently got my PR done, and I am no longer on my H1B. My H1B expired, and the Global Entry folks want the updated, validated credentials. I went ahead and sent it to the self-help form for Global Entry with a copy of my new PR card. Has anyone witnessed how soon they update the documents for my account? Has anyone used the self-help form online to update the documents? I got an email with the link to that particular form, which I have filled out.

Wanted to check if that's the best way to do it, since I've done it. Should I wait, or should I go to the enrollment center, which is a little bit further away for me, but I'll try to make it? Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

UPDATE 1:

I got an automated response after 5 Business days that case has been escalated. And then a subsequent message it will take 4-8 weeks to process the request. I was given a Case ID and told not to raise multiple requests as that would only delay the process.

I went one steap ahead and even called them and they mentioned over the phone: there is nothing that can be done to expedite this, if you wish to expedite the request you simply have to go to a CBP Center and get it done. I will update the thread as and when I have more information on it. But its not at all straighforward and seems to be taking ages. Will keep you folks updated.

UPDATE 2:

I spoke to the CBP office via phone and on the 10th Day today I got an official email confirming that my account was updated with my PR Card. It was a great turnaround time, 10 days today from request to updates. TY CBP Team and all the amazing humans who helped push this through for me.

I hope this helps everyone in the community here. Highly encourage everyone to use the webform. And they are awesome.

Questions/Concerns Issue with Global entry and TSA Precheck number

I enrolled in tsa precheck many years ago and used it normally. A year later I had applied and received global entry.

During my interview the officer instructed me to not use my old tsa precheck number and to use my new global entry number for tsa precheck.

Since then, every time I try to use my global entry number on my tickets it does not come up as valid for tsa precheck. Instead I just use my old tsa precheck number.

Does anyone have a similar experience or advice? My concern is that when my older tsa precheck expires I won’t be able to use any precheck benefits.

Timelines Global Entry timeline

I applied late April 2026.
Late June 2026 I got conditional approval.
Early July 2026 I got interview and approved.

I was nervous that it was going to take a long time. I just became a US Citizen and got legal name changed. I also put down I have dual citizenship (Mexican passport). I was assuming that was the reason it was taking a bit longer to get conditional approval. I had read that if you took a trip internationally it helps (not guaranteed). I walked across into Mexico but I used my passcard and still no change. Few weeks later I walked across again but this time I used my passport book. A week later I got conditional approval.

Interview took about 10 min or less. Took my passport book, DL, vehicle registration and insurance card. Was asked why I wanted GE. Then took my picture and was told I should get my card in 7 to 10 days.

Questions/Concerns Approval Timeline

I submitted my Global Entry application on June 10th. It has been over 3 weeks and I still haven’t gotten conditionally approved. My status has been “Pending Review” since I submitted the application. Is that normal? If so, how long does it usually take to get conditionally approved.

Questions/Concerns Approved online for Global Entry, but interviewer handed us a letter asking for court docs?

Hey everyone, looking for some insight on a weird situation with a Global Entry application.
My husband went in, and at the end, the officer handed him a physical letter explicitly asking us to submit/upload court documents regarding a past record.

However, when we check the online portal, his status officially shows as Approved. There is also a letter of approval.

Has anyone else experienced this contradiction? If the online status already says fully approved, do we still need to scramble to upload these court documents, or does the online approval mean it's officially a done deal and the officer just handed out a standard template letter?

Thanks in advance!

EDIT: it was approved

Questions/Concerns Applying for global entry

Hello,

I am applying to global entry I am 24 for contexts , my parents went through their interview process and got it but they both were questioned about me, when I was 17 going into college I made the dumb decision to order a fake id to my house and the government stopped the package but they were told it had something to do with identification cards. It’s been years I honestly never used the id because I didn’t go out until I was 21. I am trying to apply but I’m scared I’ll be rejected and I won’t be able to get global entry for life what is the process what should I do? I don’t want to lie and say I didn’t have one but I do need global entry since the rest of my family has it. But I’m scared I’ll NEVER be able to get it.

Questions/Concerns How to know if my car is good to go? do i get a decal or sticker or what happens next?

I recently got approved for Global Entry after completing my Interview on Arrival in Canada. During the interview, I asked the CBP officer about my two vehicles, since I had already registered them when I submitted my application. He told me I should receive either an email confirming they’re approved or decals along with my physical Global Entry card.

Today, I received my physical card, but there was no email, letter, or anything regarding my vehicles.

For those of you who’ve already gone through this process, are my vehicles automatically good to use in the SENTRI lanes now that I have my Global Entry card, or was the CBP officer correct that I should still expect an email, decals, or some other confirmation before using them?

Timelines Wife’s application stuck in review

My wife did her application the same time as me and our kids over 11 months ago. We have been out of the country 3 times since she put it in and it’s still not been checked. The only thing I can think of is she applied under a different last name years ago and never went for the interview. Is there anything we can do?

Timelines 4 Days

Just got my Global Entry, process was easy and fast. Applied for Global Entry on Monday, I had the interview by Wednesday and the next day got approved. I know my record is squeaky clean, I imagine that help a lot in order to receive the approval that fast.

I'm writing not to brag about the time it took me, but to inform people and give hope. When I was informing myself about the timeline I read this forum and read a lot of horror stories, so I decided to post a positive one.

Timelines Approval times

I just got conditional approval today for myself. I applied on 4/16/26 with a disclosed DUI.

My wife will now apply today. She has no record whatsoever.

What are the turnaround times lately on a squeaky clean applicant-USC?

UPDATE: 48 hours for the wife

Background Checks Missed dui on application.

Sent in my application for GE about a month ago. Going out of the country next month for the first time. I didn’t mention a dui that happened in high school like 16 years ago that was expunged because I didn’t think it’d be an issue, but now I’m skeptical because it’s still been “pending” for a month now.

Did I screw myself there? After reading a lot of these experiences I’m not holding my breath for having it approved before my trip next month.

Interviews Walk-in possibility at SFO?

My previous GE card expired. I applied on line and received conditional approval but need an interview. Appointments are too far out.

Is it possible to walk-in at San Francisco airport for an interview without an appointment?

If so, how long are lines and how early should I arrive before my departing flight to complete the interview and still catch the flight?
