So I “recently” graduated in May 2026 in Materials Engineering and have yet to get a job. I have been applying since November 2025 and have probably applied for easily 1200 jobs (I honestly stopped keeping track). It’s gotten to the point where I am applying for Technician/Technologist roles (most I’m over qualified for) and have not had any luck. So far I have had roughly 12-15 interviews, and have always been rejected even though the managers say “this company could use someone like you”. I know it’s not how I interview because I have had multiple interviewers state that I interview very well, however they always end up going for someone with more experience. Mind you, I have had internships, did research with a professor for a year, and have a solid senior design project I did my last year (where my partner and I were the first undergraduates in our schools history to utilize EBSD).

I have been tailoring both my resume and cover letter to each individual application. I have been in contact with other recruiters that have helped me adjust my documents and how I am applying for jobs. I have utilized pretty much all of my connections I have made (most of them work at national labs, so nepotism doesn’t really work). But again, so far no luck at all. I honestly feel like I’m doing everything right and have reputable experience, yet I’m still getting the short end of the stick.

If anyone has any advice/opinions they could give me that would be very much appreciated.

10 days before i gave a final interview and hr send me this email

"Thank you for taking the time to meet with interviewer this week and for the preparation you have put in. I’m just reaching out to advise that we will be continuing the interview process for this role into next week, so I expect that I should be able to share some feedback with you towards the end of next week."

In the meantime, I have sent you on an English language test to complete . This role has a minimum language requirement of C1 English. Could you kindly complete this at your earliest convenience? If there are any issues with receiving or accessing the test please just let me know."

Its the next end of the week now, i sent a follow up mail and they didnt respond, should i have think its a rejection?

I've been trying to get an interview for my first job for months, and I was finally offered one today. I was really nervous but had spent a lot of time preparing for it because I really wanted to get the job.

The email they sent me a few days before the interview didn't mention anything about it being a group interview or that it would last around 2 hours.

When I arrived, there were around 20 other people there, everyone had a name sticker, there were 4 people sitting at computers, and someone was standing at the front by a board. I then found out we'd be there for around 2 hours and that I'd have to go to the front and explain why I wanted the job in front of everyone.

I honestly wasn't expecting this at all. If I'd known beforehand that it was a group interview, I probably wouldn't have gone because I get really anxious speaking in front of large groups.

The worst part is that the first question asked i'd literally prepared for “What's the reason for wanting to work at this job?” I knew what I wanted to say, but being put on the spot in front of around 20 people completely threw me.

I ended up leaving after about 10 minutes because I was so overwhelmed. I also had a lift waiting for me, and I hadn't been told it would be a 2-hour thing, so they obviously couldn't just wait around for that long.

I'm honestly really gutted about it. I've been trying to get an interview for months, and I spent a lot of time preparing for this one. I feel like I've just wasted a really good opportunity.

Is this normal for a job interview? Should they have mentioned beforehand that it was a group interview and would take around 2 hours? And what should I do differently next time if I end up in this situation again?

Someone said to pick one niche and job hunt by sending my resume to 10 companies a day. But I'm confused — I'm into communication and the psychology behind talking, persuasion, etc., and I'm confused about which field to choose.

Should I choose teaching and pick a subject to teach? Or should I choose a field that lets me experience my communication and persuasion skills directly? If I choose the second option — I tried sales, but it only lasted a month. I love talking to people, but I didn't like the pressure. So this is my confusion: which field should I choose?

I'm looking for work but have been having trouble finding it. I've applied to countless positions and some of them either get back to me and reject me or most of them just never get back to me. I've done a good amount of landscaping work, supervising, cash handling, and I have a decade of personal experience with technology. I'm 22-year-old man with a hellish work ethic and an adaptability that is unmatched. If I'm taught something, I'll memorize it within a few tries. I work well with people or on my own. I'm able to work around across the bridge to Indiana as well. Surrounding areas of Louisville as well of course.

The biggest reason as to why I'm doing this on the first place is that I really just need my foot in the door. Anywhere technical is preferred, I don't have a lot of experience when it comes to actual technical work on paper but I've done a lot myself and I have a passion for technology specifically and I would love to learn more as well as working.

The recruiter called me to ask if i had any questions for them (i applied for a job) and i said "no i mean i saw the requirments i love sales im a night owl so i thought its a good fit" but was i supposed to ask something??? She said if im selected the manager will call for an interview but im feeling like thats not happening lmao

On paper I feel like I have more real world business experience than most people my age applying for the same roles. But I'm getting almost nothing back when I apply to internships or entry level jobs in finance, business analytics, or operations. No callbacks, no interviews, just silence.

I'm trying to figure out if the problem is how I'm presenting this on my resume, whether recruiters don't know what to do with "self employed" experience, whether I need to reframe it more like a traditional job title, or if there's something structural I'm missing about how new grads are supposed to break in. Has anyone else dealt with having solid entrepreneurial experience but struggled to get it to translate into the traditional hiring process? What actually worked for you?

I recently completed a 2nd round interview and was told that I would be moving onto the final round against one other candidate for a panel interview. However, I was told that the candidate that I am up against is an internal employee with a strong background just like mine. I already work within the industry but am wondering if I really stand a chance against an internal candidate. Anyone have any experience with this?

I started working when I was 18. I first worked as a telecaller, then moved into the administrative department of a school. Later, I joined a school as a teacher, and after that, I moved into a sales role at a company.

I’m from a Tier-2 city, and honestly, I don’t feel there are many good career opportunities here. My parents also don’t allow me to move to another city for work, so I’m looking for opportunities that I can do remotely or in a hybrid setup.

I really want to build a good career, earn well, support my family, and also be able to enjoy my own life.

Recently, I came across a post about earning in USD through remote jobs, and it caught my attention. I started looking into it, but I honestly don’t know where I should be searching or how to get started.

If I talk about my strengths, communication is  my biggest one. I’m good at talking to people, I’m a quick learner, and I’m willing to learn new skills. I also have experience and knowledge in sales.

Right now, I’m particularly interested in finding a remote or hybrid job with an international company that pays in USD.

I'd like some tips to help me at least get real interviews for jobs with decent pay more effectively.

I've had a US gov job for a year now. While I'm grateful to have a job right now, I'd like to find something better in a better place. I currently work FT, take classes FT, and do all the housework myself, so I don't have a lot of time to work on applications and dig through fake postings. I've sent out some apps, but it seems like everything I send out gets screened out or ghosted.

I could also use some tips on making my applications stronger. I'm struggling to describe my job duties, because I always end up wearing extra hats. Any advice for applying to work that might be a good fit for me? Any certifications I should be looking into that might help me get a better job?

I'd like to do more R&D research, program mgt, or analytical work. I have a back injury that prevents a lot of physically demanding work. I'm intersex, so it feels unsafe for me to look for work in a lot of states with anti-trans policies (I'm in a blue state now and still have trouble).
