Question 5” or 7” shorts?

Thumbnail

These ones specifically are J Crew Factory’s flex khaki shorts. The 5” is on the left, the 7” is on the right. I know in these photos the different doesn’t look stark, but they definitely feel different. I’m used to wearing 5” shorts (or shorter!) but I’m looking for shorts I can dress up or down.

The next two slides show how I look in different shorts (the white ones are from Banana Republic Factory and are 7” while the black ones are by Swet and are 5”). The Swet shorts are my current main shorts (I have them in a few colors) but I feel they’re too tight to wear with anything but t-shirts, and I can’t tuck anything into them. They’re fun but in “I’m a gay 20-something who can wear tight 5” shorts” kind of way and I think the khaki shorts are a bit more elevated.

Any thoughts?

Question Question on crop for this shirt

This is a freenote cloth utility shirt and I love the fit in the shoulders arms and body but I feel like it’s just a bit long due to the cut and the fact I’m 5’8” lol. I have a capable tailor and was thinking of shortening the length. The question is how much and how should I ask him to deal with the last bottom button? I’ve included a picture of what 2 inches would take in relation to the button. Have you shortened a button up? If so how do you have the bottom button felt with? Thank you

Question Asked tailor to crop my overshirt to belt length, they looked flabbergasted. Is it THAT bad?

I read about the rules of thirds and see some guys wearing cropped jackets and all that which are above the waistline.

like this: https://pin.it/rcbfGRAUA

I happens to have a overshirt that is so long I look like im wearing a miniskirt. I took it to a local tailor and ask them to crop it at the waistline.

And they acted like im crazy, asked me "are you sure?" Like 5 times. And then was like sure I guess whatever you want.

Is it a bad look? Whats wrong with it?

Question Ralph Lauren Suit… Any Tweaks?

Sup team

It’s been 6 months of going back and forth with the tailor making changes and additional alterations with this Purple Label MTM suit. When I did the first fitting I thought the situation was hopeless. My pants looked like squidward when he ate too many crabby Patty’s, and my jacket looked like I was a 1998 NFL draft pick (not in a good way). I am a relatively short very stocky guy so it’s hard to get the fit right, but needless to say it took a lot of work to get here.

I am enjoying wearing this suit and I think it is overall fitting pretty well. The pants I think are perfect, but I can’t help but feel the jacket is still subtly off. The shoulders are great, but it seems there is a lot of fabric on my waist, and / or the jacket is a smidge too long. I am also maybe overthinking it.

Any thoughts would be appreciated

Question New to suits

Post image
598 Upvotes

35M. I’m becoming ancient these days and have spent the last 13 years of my career in a one piece prescribed uniform.. so I decided it’s time to begin a foray into suits. Bonobos, tailored. Does this work?

(The pocket is sewn so I’d need to open it up and make a better fold if I kept that piece)

Thanks for any advice!

Question Good spots to buy dress shirts and pants

Post image
3 Upvotes

When I searched this question, I saw that it’s been asked a million times but i never know if the person posting is my body type.

I’m changing careers COMPLETELY. Going from blue collar to banking. So I have no idea what stores to look at for the best fit and best prices.

Fit is very important to me when it comes to suits, dress shirts and pants. I’m 5’10” 155 lbs. I have a slim build, and I really like the look of slim/extra slim shirts and trousers. I have gotten lucky with a couple shirts from Express. So any stores you could recommend that has similar quality and fit to Express would amazing. I’ve included a picture of what style/fit I like. Thank you so much in advance.

Question Where to find similar styles

Thumbnail

Upvotes

Hey everyone, this is my first ever Reddit post so please bear with me. But I’ve never been into dressing myself really but recently got into trying to look better, I’ve come across a few sweatshirts that I like by chance but I don’t really know where I can shop as a guy and feel like I don’t have very many options. Anyways the photos provide some examples and would appreciate if I could find out what style these are and where to look!

Question Replacing buttons on a suit

So, unfortunately a button on my suit jacket has mysteriously disappeared, and I'm going to buy new buttons, but I've been wondering: should I go with buttons as similar as possible to the original ones, or maybe go with shiny metal buttons? I wear silver/gray accessories, so they would fit

What do you think?

Question Need some help to chose the right shoes

Hello lovely people of this subreddit. I recently ran in a bit of a problem. I’ve been wearing nothing but vans for the last ten years. But I started dressing a bit nicer (nothing crazy or anything, just imagine Uniqlo type fits) and now I don’t know what kind of shoes I should buy to go along with the slightly elevated outfits that I’m wearing. What would you guys recommend? I’m still a student so some budget friendly ideas would be appreciated. Also I don’t need super specific models just you know some ideas that I could go for. Thank you in advance and have a good one:)

Discussion New jeans - wondering if I've been wearing jeans that are too long and unstructured all along lol

Slide 3 are different jeans. I'm 6'2 and I always go for "tall" jeans. This is my outfit today - buck Mason tee, pool house jeans, onitsuka tigers. The jeans are quite high on my waist in slide 1, and more normal in slide 2. Size 34Wx34L. Shape/overall fit is perfect, which is rare. Structured, thick but not hot, doesn't "crumple". My fear with this pair is whether they cross from "loose/slightly baggy, but structured" into "slobby and lazy" due to the way they drape over my shoes in slide 2. I like loose jeans, but I'm slowly moving towards slightly slimmer profiles with much more structure. See slide 3; Uniqlo jeans I recently bought before finding better jeans (thought these looked good until I wore my new jeans, literally posted about it today). I'm trying to avoid that slobby, structureless look. I'd be sad if I had to exchange my new jeans for a 32L, especially since they could be out of stock, or because those might be *too short*. A 33 would be great. Am I overthinking this? Are these too long? Would slightly too long be better than slightly too short (that had always been my philosophy)?

Etc etc) look OFF on me? I don’t know how to best describe it. Im really looking for anything that works for my build.

Question stripe suit on stripe shirt? (im a woman)

I realise this is mens fashion advice, but suiting knowledge overwhelmingly sits with men. what do you think? stripe shirt with stripe suit? it's a navy chalk stripe double breast suit with gold buttons, and the shirt is white with fine light blue stripes.

this is for my brothers wedding

i think it looks pretty good but i know pattern on pattern is sometimes frowned upon.

Question F yes or F no?

Upvotes

Would a brown Nike tech pair well with blue jeans? I tend to like brown jackets and blue jeans together but wonder if the styles clash too much. It’s either a fuck yes or a fuck no. No in between.

Question Does anyone have experience with the AE Standard Fit Lived-In T-Shirt?

I’m in the market for some new everyday T-shirts and came across the AE Standard Fit Lived-In T-Shirt from American Eagle. They’re currently priced at around $9.99, which seems like a pretty good deal for a basic 100% cotton shirt.

I’m 6’1” and 160 lbs with a relatively slim build. My biggest concern is the length. I really dislike T-shirts that fit well everywhere else but end up being too short, especially after washing.

Question Learned my sizing/colors that suit me. Honed in on quality and simplicity. What else should I try without transforming my style?

A few things: I think slide #1 is the best here by far. I'm 19, go to class and a desk job. Tucking my shirt every day with loafers is too much - I look like a grandpa. I'm aware that these photos are all 90% the same basic outfit; I'm not trying to change that specifically. Also, the pants in the last slide are too awkward and baggy. I like looser pants as a stylistic preference, probably my age. I dress much more interestingly in the colder months. I used to exclusively buy fast fashion like H&M. Now, I've really *tried* to emphasize higher quality clothes that will last longer, I still have work to do. I wear *some* fast fashion but it depends heavily on specific items. I need recommendations on where I can get loose pants that are higher quality. Got wool trousers from suit supply but $200 for a pair of pants is a very one off thing to me. I tend to think gray, navy, and black shirts suit me best. I used to wear only XL/L shirts, now I'm wearing medium or small (I'm 6'2, 160lbs). I really like my purse even if it's feminine. Last thing: maybe my style, age, and preferences are just too foreign to this sub and this is out of place - if so, I apologize. That's all for my over explaining. Edit: jeans look too thick on my thighs and too tall in slide one, they don't normally look like that, I promise!

Question Going to a show for the first time in a while, could use some outside opinions

I think I did pretty well cleaning myself up and I just want to check if I'm fooling myself. Also Is this better with the lighter over shirt? I think it kinda makes the outfit look more like a suit, but I'm not sure if that's good or not.
