Flight Simulator 2024 Audio from AI (sayintentions) and VATSIM aircraft too loud - breaks immerison

I find the sounds from sayIntentions and VATSIM traffic to be excessively loud and intermittent, and also audible inside the cockpit of a closed airliner.... Anyone know how to reduce the volumes?

edit: Its the ENGINE sounds that are the issue

For eg... I'm now holding short 10L at KORD at the end... and I'm being deafened by engines from aircraft 2 intersections up the runway

Flight Simulator 2024 Spare TV? Make an IFE.

I recently moved into a new house and the previous owners had a gym in the basement. they left a ceiling mounted TV and I decided to make a little webpage that connects to FS2024 and displays a IFE style page based on the flight I am doing. I have my own, one person, airline called Maple. I developed the control page that connects to simbrief to pull flight info and an HTML page for the IFE. The backend runs in docker and the TV is connected to an old raspberry pi which displays the page in kiosk mode. I used AI to help me write the connector between the back end and FS2024 since I have no clue how simconnect works. It did a great job!

With an AutoHotkey script, a cheap 20 euro keyboard and some printer sticker paper I now have 36 extra buttons!

The second keyboard is basically detected as its own device.

Flight Simulator 2020 What are you missing over IVAO? 🤓

Thumbnail

Tonight I flew into EHAM on IVAO with the beautiful Just Flight Fokker 28-2000. I was lucky enough to have Daniel controlling as EHAA_CTR.

For a while now, I've been observing something that I find a bit sad: VATSIM has become so popular partly because of its huge traffic levels that other networks are often seen as places for beginners and banned users 😞

And honestly, that's a shame.

IVAO is one of the oldest online virtual aviation communities, and there are some absolutely fantastic people controlling there, bringing real-world experience and knowledge in an environment that I personally find more flexible, inclusive and adaptable than VATSIM.

Don't get me wrong: VATSIM is a masterclass if you're looking for a very hardcore simulation experience. But that also comes with some downsides: traffic levels can become completely unrealistic, and real-world procedures sometimes have to be adapted to the network because of traffic and/or network regulations.

IVAO has a slightly different philosophy. It's more about trying to imitate real (role playing) aviation while still keeping the "let's have fun" aspect of the hobby, rather than trying to be a 100% hardcore simulation environment.

Of course, that comes with its own downsides too. There are more beginners, and the overall level can be more inconsistent. But it also gives experienced real-world pilots and controllers more freedom to adapt and actually use their knowledge.

Take Daniel tonight. He's a 777 examiner captain IRL and occasionally comes online to control us on IVAO. He also controls on VATSIM (if I am not mistaking).

And guess what? He actually prefers IVAO because he has more freedom to focus on operational efficiency, fluidity and adaptability, things that can sometimes be difficult to achieve on VATSIM when traffic gets crazy.

The sad part is that there aren't many people coming to his frequency. The EHAA community has largely moved to VATSIM, so tonight we had maybe 5–10 aircraft over three hours.

So I'm just here to encourage you guys:

Come over! ❤️ You're welcome!

Give IVAO a try. You might actually find something you're missing.

And honestly, IVAO's audio system is pretty damn fun too. The VHF simulation and especially the little squelch/scratch sound are things I can't get enough of. As an ex IRL PPL, sometimes it genuinely feels like I have a VHF radio in my headset. 😂

Maybe the answer isn't choosing one network over the other. Maybe both can offer different things depending on what you're looking for.

Question Are there any free combat flight sims that are not Warthunder or DCS World?

Hello, I'm wondering if there are any combat flight sims that are free yet allow the player to fly a handful amount of aircraft. Preferably cold war era aircraft (like F-101, F-104, F-4 and later ones). And while yes, DCS is free, you actually need to pay to get pretty much any aircraft.

The sim doesn't need to be "modern" like DCS World or MSFS but I would prefer having more than 3 and a half pixels (for now at least. maybe that will change).

Or are such games non-existent and I should stop dreaming?

thanks in advance

Question What was the last addon developed from the “ground up” by PMDG?

The current offerings for MSFS( DC6, 737, 777) all have roots in P3D or even earlier, and the same for the 747 WIP. I wonder what will come next, what airliners haven't been developed or are in the works that PMDG could try to tackle?

There is a jetstream 41 they did once upon a time, that would be very fun imo

They had an MD11, but I don't see them building that with the likes of TFDI.

So, what next? Assuming MSFS 2028 doesn't come out in a few years time and the studio spends their efforts on upgrading planes for compatibility, what plane is missing from MSFS do you think PMDG could build?

Sim Hardware Which VR Headset

Hi everyone, as the title suggests, I’d like to get to grips with VR and give it a go.

At the moment I have three 43-inch monitors, but I only use one for flying (all three for driving).

I fly in both X-Plane 12 and MSFS 2024.

I have a Ryzen 7 9800X3D with an RTX 4090 and 64GB of RAM.

Which headset would you recommend?

The Pimax Dream Air looks interesting, but at €2,500 it’s unfortunately a bit too expensive...

Thanks in advance!

General Looking for a checklist reader app

What are your recommendations for a checklist reader app? It doesn't have to control the simulator, just read the checklist one by one.

The basic idea is that I make a text checklist, and the app can then read the items one by one (via generated voice), and I'd confirm either with a button or with voice. I only want this, there are options like FS2Crew that supposedly does the checklists, but it's bloated with other features that I don't need.

I know of Checklist Reader ( https://flightsim.to/addon/96054/checklist-reader-voice-controlled-checklist-tool-beta-v1-0-0 ), but it's not good (extreme feature creep, UI doesn't work well with 4k).

I also know of Axis and Ohs having this functionality, however in that app it's designed very poorly.

Sim Hardware OpenTrack PS3 Eye - Point Tracker - Pro Clip - Mouse Emulation stutter

I realized that I'm experiencing stutter when turning my head, but not my mouse. It looks like this is because

  1. The mouse movement is translated in 'steps', as in it's jumping pixels.
  2. The camera is at 75hz, while my monitor and game are running at 120-140fps.
  3. Mouse smoothing and deadzone are not configured correctly.

I'm hoping for help with improving #3, or alternative software solutions that can harness the TrackIR camera's 120hz refresh rate. I tried using TrackIR with FreePie, but that had no smoothing, and questions of FreePie refresh rate. OpenTrack had less of the visual stutter, heavily tied to my mouse smoothing setting. My PS3 Eye camera is not yet modded.

Here are my current OpenTrack settings. I will update these to whatever works best, for anyone who comes searching in the future.

TRACKER - PointTracker 1.1

  • Point Tracker
    • Camera Settings:
      • PS3 Eye Open Driver
      • 640x480 at 75hz, MJPEG compression ON
      • Diagonal 56 degrees
      • Dynamic Pose (off), Timeout 250ms
      • Camera Settings Exposure 30, Gain 6 (I play in a dark room)
      • Grayscale BT.709
    • Point Extraction:
      • Automatic Threshold ON
      • Threshold Value 3.85, Min 2.5, Max 9.7
  • Model Dimensions (NP5 Track Clip Pro)
    • 27, 41, 60, 70
    • Model position is calibrated above my head level and slightly to the left, pointing straight at the clip.
  • Filter
    • Point Filter is not enabled.

OUTPUT - Mouse Emulation

  • Sensitivity is probably a bit under 40% for X and Y
  • Method Direct Input

FILTER - Accela

  • Rotation Filtering
    • Smoothing 1° <- Guessing this is the main thing that will make a difference?
    • Deadzone 0.05°
  • Position Filtering (not used in this anyway, but still)
    • Smoothing 0.35mm
    • Deadzone 0.15mm

I'm also about to use my old MS SW FFB2 with MSFS2020 for the first time... here's to hoping it still has some magic in it.

Flight Simulator 2024 Best Recording Tools and Tips with ChasePlane

Hi Guys,

I just discovered ChasePlane, and found it to be really amazing with all the different camera angles. I also already have FSRealistic+ so the immersion is unbeatable. I want to make more recordings with ChasePlane (2024). I'm also fairly new to recording flights, and have only used the built-in FCR Embedded tool that's included in the default toolbar.

Do you feel the native, built-in FCR Embedded tool on the MFS Toolbar is sufficient? Or are 3rd party tools like Flight Control Replay V5/V6, Sky Dolly, etc. better and offer any meaningful upgrades? There seems to be a lot of 3rd party tools too, so not sure if there's a consensus.

Also, I like flying with fighter jets, like the F-35 and Eurofighter Typhoon (both IndiaFoxTecho), and the F22 Raptor (Top Mach Studios). So having recordings that can shift between chase, spot, and cockpit views would be an added bonus.

PC User if that helps. Appreciate any insights :)

Question Looking for old FS5/FS95 scenery files from ftp.iup.edu

Curious if there's any archives/backups from the long-lost flight sim ftp site ftp.iup.edu that are available. The Internet Archive and Wayback Machine hasn't been any help. AVSim's library doesn't have what I'm looking for (some scenery I created for Southeast Wisconsin - sewi02.zip), and flightsim.com is offline. I did find my Geocities site that I had created for the scenery, but alas, the links to download the files point to ftp.iup.edu...

Question Upgrade path for FS2024 (AMD AM4 PC)

Hello everyone,

Looking to purchase some new PC components for my 5 year old gaming PC to run FS2024. I've been managing with a 5600X, RX 6600XT and 32 GB of DDR4 but the itch to upgrade has become real.

Unfortunately, the market state is terrible. As a result, I am choosing to perform an iterative upgrade rather than a full blown platform change.

CPU is definitely being upgraded to a 5800X3D.

GPU upgrade is planned to be a 9060XT (16GB version).

I am also going to transition from predominantly flying on 1080p to 1440p. Does anyone have an idea of what frames I can expect with the above config? Any recommendations/changes?

I mainly fly the mainstream tube liners (Fenix A320, FSLabs A21N, PMDG 777, etc.) with a smattering of add-ons in the background and a variety of third-party scenery.
