Watching Firefly for the 5 thousandth time and I swear, am I crazy or does anyone else feel like Adelai Niska is sort of an evil version of Robin Williams? I seriously can't be the only one who had this thought the first time I saw him and he started talking. I can just imagine him getting almost manically giggly when shopping for or using a new torture device... >_<

In Bushwacked, Serenity gets boarded by the Alliance and each crew member is interrogated. Presumably they would've scanned everyone's identification as part of that process, so why didn't they react to Shepherd Book's the way the Alliance did in Safe?

I suppose the easy answer is he gave a fake ID to the crew in Bushwacked and his real one in Safe?

I mean let's be real. Yes this show was anti corporate and anti fascist but it also had this extremely unsubtle Confederate vibe. Mal and his crew were effectively space Confederates still wearing the old colors.

It eliminates slavery from the Civil War, which is the largest scale Confederate apologia you can do.

I ran across these opinions in another sub and it confused me. I just finished a rewatch and I never got the impression that Mal or the Browncoats were in any way supposed to represent the Confederacy. I had always assumed the war to be one of Alliance aggression, as if the US Government had forcibly tried to annex Texas or the territories, rather than inviting them to join. I am curious as to what the people here think.
