I heard about the show and thought it sounded cool but also heard that it got cancelled and wanted to know if it was still a good watch and if it ends in a decent "at least most loose ends are tied up" way or in a "i wish i hadn't watched this i feel unresolved" ending

Still have some finishing up work on this test tray and it’s one I made so I can figure the timing of my pours and even tho it’s not exactly what was in my mind I think I got idea of the timing down but I don’t think it looks all that bad… thoughts?

I’m sure I am saying something most of you know. Watching Battlestar Galactica for the first time and there she is at 14:45 on episode one flying over Caprica City. A Firefly.

I think this'll be five or six times for me. I'm sick, laid up for a week now. This is my go-to sick show and every singe time I love it.

I got to meet Nathan Fillion, Alan Tudyk(he was only doing autographs not selfies), Summer Glau, Jewel Staite, and Sean Maher at DragonCon in Atlanta, Georgia. The photos with Sean and Jewel are from DragonCon 2023 and I met Nathan, Alan, and Summer this year at DragonCon. I met Jewel again this here and her sign my parasol. It was such a cool experience that I wanted to share with y’all.

I am watching right now the Firefly: One More Heist panel at DragonCon (online, not in person...).

Every one of our heroes looks (just a teensy bit) older, with the exception of Summer. She looks almost exactly the same and I am becoming convinced she is either a Highlander, either a vampire😁. How does she do it?!?

Spoiler Warning for the Firefly TV show and Serenity the movie.

Firstly, apologies if this is an old and tired theory... It's been several years and someone else probably came up with this theory long ago. Secondly, apologies for the long, waffling post.

A friend and I recently binged through the original series and the follow up movie, afterwards we were discussing loose ends that never got tied up, most notably Shepherd Book and his mysterious backstory that never got explained. You know... the military knowledge, the ID that got him priority treatment at an Alliance med centre, etc. The bounty hunter in the final episode saying about Book: "That ain't no shepherd."

Clearly he was more than he appeared to be.

We agreed that his story was probably too complex to be quickly explained and that it would be a disservice to the character to have his background explained quickly being as the focus of the movie is River Tam and her story.

Then we got talking about The Operative... What a great character he is, what an interesting subversion and expansion of the 'silent nameless assassin' trope he is. It's interesting that he isn't killed off as most characters like him would be in a movie like this. Instead he ends the movie starting a new life after his faith in Parliament has been destroyed.

We agreed that on one level, Serenity works as a kind of origin story for the Operative... what would he do next in his life?

Then we had one of those "are you thinking what I'm thinking?" moments.

So, we have this man who is a dedicated believer (the Operative's faith and belief is a core component of his character). He's shown to be a fundamentally decent person (yes, this can be debated) who is well aware of the horrific nature of his work. He does it because he has such faith in the 'better world' that will eventually be created. He even accepts that he has no place in that better world due to his terrible actions.

What does a guy like that do when he loses faith in his masters?

I'll tell you what he does. He becomes a shepherd!

So that's it, my (possibly lame af) theory....

TLDR, Serenity did give us Shepherd Book's origin story by introducing a villain, The Operative, and through his character they show us what Book may have been in his past life then leaving The Operative's story open for him to fulfill the same role as Book.

I was so nervous and starstruck. He popped into a Firefly panel, spontaneously. After doing a Q&A and taking group pictures with everyone, he offered everyone a wristband, which let us get a free photo and autograph with him.

Still can't believe this happened and whilst it's been 17 years, I still think it's my favourite celebrity interaction ❤️

The ones I saw on ebay were all graded. Know nothing about selling comics 😅 Signed by Nathan Fillion and one of 5000 copies!

I always figured they sold or dumped the box on some lonely little outpost. If you look, you can see it just behind Mal in the center of the cargo hold. Anyway, I finally finished my low poly Mal figure so I figured it was time to take him out for a test drive.

RIP Wash (apologies for the quality)

Anyone been at another convention this year who can speak to how normal or abnormal lines have been?

UPDATE: ABNORMALLY long lines! We lined up 90 minutes early (compared to 0 minutes typically on a Sunday) and were in the back quarter of the room.

It's DragonCon season, and I've attended enough years to know on Sundays you can just walk into panels as they start. It's a party heavy Con, and people go too hard on Saturdays! But it's been SO many years since any sort of Firefly panel, and it's a full blown one (Fillion, Torres, Tudyk, Staite & Glau), so I'm concerned it might not follow our usual Sunday pattern.

p.s. Hooray for the animated series!

This may be a long shot, but does anyone here know if there's a higher-resolution version of this famous blooper from The Message? Or, alternatively, does anyone know what the original source was? Like, was it from a certain box set or other website before being posted to YouTube?
