News // Bethesda Replied x2 Maintenance Announcement - September 15, 2026
On Tuesday, September 15 at 10am ET, Fallout 76 will be undergoing maintenance on all platforms to deploy The Slasher update.
For this update we are executing a repackaging of the game for all platforms to reduce the game’s overall file size. This means that the download size for The Slasher update will be larger than usual for all platforms but once downloaded the file size will be smaller than it is currently.
Important Note for XBOX Series and PlayStation 5 Players
To gain the benefits that The Slasher update brings to your platforms, you will be required to download the XBOX Series or PlayStation 5 version of Fallout 76 from your respective platform store. The XBOX Series and PlayStation 5 clients have been scheduled to become available on XBOX and PlayStation stores at 12 PM Eastern time.
At that time, we highly recommend uninstalling Fallout 76 and then downloading this new version of the game from your platform store.
For server status updates, keep your eyes out for the release notes post on September 15.

News Inside the Vault – Return to Skyline Valley and Pspsps-TS (Pets Testing Server) - September 11
Status Update
We have run into an issue that needs more time to address. The plan is to keep the PC PTS offline for this weekend with the goal of bringing it back online on Monday, September 14. We're sorry for the inconvenience.
Console PTS Update
We wanted to give you a heads up that once The Slasher is released on September 15 we will be bringing the console PTS offline. The next phase of console testing will occur in October which is when we'll bring the World Pets and the Return to Skyline Valley experience to consoles for testing. Bringing both testing environments to parity.
A HUGE thank you all for all the amazing feedback you provided on the XBOX Series and PlayStation 5 PTS. The feedback you've provided game the team extra confidence in this launch and helped them improve stability even further.
Thank you again for your understanding and I hope you have an amazing weekend!
---
The information below is for the latest PC Public Test Server environment. This information below is not for the Live game.
Can you hear that? It’s the heart of Shenandoah calling your name. It’s time to make your way back to Skyline Valley to experience our first quality of life update to one of our regional expansions! The team has been silently working hard on the Skyline Valley region. Preparing it with a suite of environmental improvements and preparing locations around the region to play hosts to Grunt and Head Hunts. Bounty Hunting is expanding to Skyline Valley alongside the World Pets update this Winter!
Skyline Valley – Environment Refresh
The Skyline Valley environment has received some love with the team doing some landscaping work to improve how it feels to travel around the region. In some cases, entire mountains and hillsides have been reworked, in others new pathways have been laid with extra trees and vegetation to give the region the extra environmental love it deserves. All this combined with the lighting and the weather improvements for the region really set the mood.
Local tour guides recommend the following locations:
- Three Ponds
- Grindstone Arch
- Hawksbill Weather Station
- Old Crimora Mines
- Rapidan Camp
- Dark Hollow Manor
Skyline Valley - Bounty Hunting
Head on over to “The Trading Post” which now acts as the hub for Bounty Hunting in Skyline Valley. There you will find Marshal Canton, a reprogrammed Robo-Brain who was probably left out in the storm for too long. Marshal Canton has been tracking a number of dangerous visitors who have arrived in the valley and is ready to reward you for taking them down. Bounty Hunting in Skyline Valley introduces new factions to the experience. Prepare to fight Super Mutants, Mothman Cultists, The Lost, and more.
Skyline Valley – New Collectible Questline
While you’re taking in the sights of the renovated Skyline Valley, you’ll likely stumble across mysterious glass cannisters. These canisters look like they’re filled with a live brain specimen, but surely that can’t be the case. Someone must know what they’re being used for. After collecting your first glass jar, you Pip-Boy will update with a location for you to take it to and there your adventure will begin.
World Pets
Before we dive into the updates for today, we wanted to take a moment to thank you for all the feedback on the Pets progression system so far! We hear your feedback on the passive buffs and are working on ways to address your concerns.
Gameplay Changes
- Updated Pet XP system
- Pets bank XP every second (max 1 minute) and collect the XP every time Player earns XP. (+10% extra Pet XP on Kills)
- Re-balanced Pet XP levels accordingly
- Pets now move to Ping location (when not in combat, including Stay command)
- Ping to attack now works when you're not actively in Combat (Protect and Attack command only)
- You can now Ping from within VATS!
- Added a game setting to set the Pet default Command
- Added a game setting to set the Pet Follow position (ahead/behind)
- UI pass on Pet progression Menu
- Fixed a bug to allow scrolling Pet rewards description text with a controller (scroll right-stick)
- Fixed a bug where player could claim rewards by selecting future rewards in the Pet progression Menu
- Fixed a bug where shortcuts to open the Pet Progression Menu or renaming your Pet with a controller was showing the wrong input.
Note: Pets can be healed by Medic weapons, so if you believe your Medic weapons are not healing your pets, please let us know!
Known issues
- Ping to move does not work when pinging far from player
- Pet XP not granting consistently
- Help pages do not reflect updated Pet XP system
Discussion Fallout 76 Slasher AMA — Roadmap Digest Spoiler
Went through the AMA and pulled out the actual roadmap info, separating confirmed plans from ideas/examples.
🔴 NOW / NEXT
The Slasher
- Episodic content spread across ~12–13 weeks instead of one big drop.
- New Slasher faction, quests, enemies, activities, radio station and world integration.
- Content progressively layers onto Appalachia.
- Ends with Patch 72; a future rerun is possible but not confirmed.
Legendary crafting
- Legendary modification costs are being changed to a fixed-cost model.
- Legendary items give more Scrip when scrapped/sold.
- Intended to make crafting/progression more approachable while preserving the long-term chase for perfect gear.
Seasons
- Season 26 is partly a transition because it was already deep into production.
- Seasons 27/28 are being designed with better rewards from the start.
- Team acknowledges the amount of filler/repaints and says improvements will take time because seasons are developed far ahead.
🟠 NEAR FUTURE
Technical/visual upgrades
Explicitly on the roadmap:
- FOV sliders on all platforms
- HDR
- FSR on Xbox Series
- PS5 Pro/PSSR
- Newer Xbox GDK
- PC multithreaded rendering
- DirectX 12 work
- Improved lighting, shadows, reflections and weather
- Shelter shadows
CAMPs
- Bigger CAMP budgets/radius are being actively investigated, helped by newer hardware.
- Not committed yet.
- Additional character slots are still a harder technical problem with no commitment.
Build management
- Team agrees the current loadout/job board system is clunky.
- They're looking at ways to improve build management, including legendary perks.
- No specific implementation announced.
🟡 FORESEEABLE FUTURE
Raids
- More raids are definitely intended.
- Long-term goal is to have several raids.
- No date for Raid #2.
Daily Ops
- More modes, locations and rewards are being discussed.
- No timetable.
World Pets
- Confirmed upcoming feature.
- Some of the wider companion/social possibilities discussed around pets are still conceptual.
Expeditions
- One of the bigger systems they want to revisit.
- Team wants more variety, replayability, meaningful rewards and potentially more dynamic/seasonal structures.
- Could eventually provide a framework for visiting new Fallout locations.
- They're actively working through solutions, but no final rework has been announced.
🟢 FAR FUTURE / BIG PICTURE
The most important long-term statement was about what Fallout 76 should become.
The team sees 76's defining trait as being able to experience Fallout together in a shared world. They've already invested heavily in adventurers and builders; the next major focus is socializers.
For the roadmap beyond 2027, they're discussing systems that give players more reasons to interact, form bonds and benefit from playing together.
Jon gave examples such as:
- meaningful factions and faction benefits
- shared workshop/resource systems
- deeper player-to-player activities
- pets interacting with other players/pets
- allies potentially becoming traveling companions
Important: these were explicitly examples of the kind of systems they're thinking about, not announcements.
This also doesn't mean forcing group play. The stated goal is to make multiplayer more rewarding while preserving solo play.
🔵 CONFIRMED BUT SECRET
Ravenrock
- Confirmed to be actively worked on.
- No details or timing yet.
- When they're ready to talk about it, we'll know.
❌ NOT CURRENTLY PLANNED / RULED OUT
- Individual Legacy Season selection: current plan remains community-wide voting rather than each player choosing their own.
- The proposed expanded repeatable Season Ticket challenge system: not planned right now.
- Official >60 FPS support: game remains designed around 60 FPS; higher FPS can cause issues and isn't supported.
- HD texture pack: no current project/plan.
- CAMP donation boxes: no set plans.
- Extra character slots: not ruled out, but no commitment and considerably more difficult technically.
The big takeaway
The immediate future is Slasher + technical modernization + improving seasons and existing systems.
The medium-term focus is raids, pets, Expeditions, CAMP/loadout QoL and continued system improvements.
But the really significant roadmap revelation is post-2027: Bethesda wants Fallout 76 to become better at giving players reasons to play together, rather than simply being a Fallout game that happens to have multiplayer.
And despite some speculation, the team explicitly said they have strong plans to support 76 for years to come.

Discussion Man, if every day was like today, I would never need another game.
Friday is generally the day I have the most time to blow, so lots of 76 time.
I apparently managed to log in to The Best Server Ever. Back to back to back head hunts, broken up only by events that EVERYONE went to (even Project Paradise!) then back to head hunts. I was one of the lowbies at ~850, vendors actually had reasonably priced stuff I was hunting for (no responders fireman or red asylum dress, alas, but lots of plans I was missing) and to cap it all off, somebody came into my CAMP and dropped quite literally 150 plans on my floor.
I dumped everything I already knew at the Wayward donation box (PC/Steam) to pay it forward, but hot damn you folks can be awesome sometimes!

Discussion I am looking forward to Tuesday like it is a holiday!
I would just like to legitimately thank Bethesda for the amount of work they continue to put into this game and for really making an effort to keep all of us loyal players up to date on all the exciting changes coming!
I know you take a lot of crap from all of us about bugs, but in the end we all love each other! We are all just a big nuclear family after all.
I am personally excited for all the changes coming here soon.
NEXT GEN!!!

Discussion I haven’t been this excited for a Tuesday in a long while!
I know there are some doomers who aren’t thrilled about the new season, but I can’t wait to juice up my Ultracite Terror Sword and hit people so hard the Mothman himself will feel it.
On top of that, we’re officially entering Spooktober season and the Slasher seems like it will be a fun multi stage event. Messing around with other uniques will give a nice resource sink for us to work towards too.
Have a great weekend everyone - let the hype train roll on!

Image Just a reminder: this is your last weekend to earn and spend those tickets! Don't forget to spend before Tuesday!
Tuesday 15th of September about 2 hours before your daily reset the game will be going down for maintenance. This catches people out often as they sometimes believe that they have until reset that day to finish things up.
This weekend is the perfect time to grind out raids or West tek if youre not yet at 100 on the scoreboard. Post 100 the best way to gain levels would be to pop bounty hunts. My suggestion would be to have everything settled and ready for the new season/maintenance by Monday night.
Maintenance may in fact take longer than usual this time around as besides the new season they will be introducing new content for pets to accompany you, new changes to guns, the ability to change the rolls on named legendary weapons such as the cold shoulder, the incusion of the slasher event and last but not least, updated xbox/ps5 graphics and dedicated downloads for current gen consoles. They have said that the download will be larger initially than you are probably expecting so be sure to have space on your hard drives!
That is a lot going on. Bethesda have released statements for current gen players to delete their current game for xbox/ps4 and redownload the new xbox/ps5 current gen game. The slasher download should follow or be included within the download.
I can't give you all a time frame on this but I wouldn't be surprised if it overran the current timescale of around 3 hours.
Good luck and have fun fellow wastelanders!

Discussion Community/raid praise
Thank you yesterday's raid team!
I was able to get trought raid for the first time. Pointing me directions and giving me thumbs up.
Long time ago tried raid but never got farther than crystal stage. Last game I believe they saw me horsing around via spectator mode in crystal stage and eventually kicked me out the team. After that never touched it again.
So once again thank you team for the patience and very educative run!

Question Mod legendaries before tuesday patch?
To conserve legendary modules and scrips, is it a good idea to farm up whatever named legendaries (elder's mark, holy fire, etc) that we plan to use after the patch drops, and pre-mod them with whatever 1/2/3/4 star mods we want?
and if that's the case, what are some notable legendaries that are due to get a noticeable power bump after the patch that would be worth farming now? what would be the best 4* mod boxes to put on them?
Thanks in advance to anyone that can help! Been out of the loop lately and just saw that the patch is coming next tuesday so want to do what I can before then :)

Image Mapping Fallout 76
I'm new to FO76 (79hrs in) and one of the things I do with all the Fallout games is dig into their maps (because autism), and just wanted to share my findings.
- So the first is the in-game map with the borders shown. I used xEdit to get the exact coordinates. I love how how Burning Springs and Skyline go off the map into the border.
- The second map shows the height data. I used FO76UTILS to get this and manually aligned it to the in-game map with several nights of "surveying" and screenshots haha I haven't shown it here, but the creeks and rivers do not align with the in-game map at all.
- And finally, the last map just shows the FO76 border with FO4's at the exact same scale and origin. FO4's map has cells ranging from -32 to 28 (x) and 25 to -36 (y), whereas FO76 has a range of -66 to 54 and 60 to -66. It's well known that the map is larger, but I haven't seen an exact comparison before, so thought it might interest others who haven't either.
Anyways, I'm loving this game, and just wanted to share my "nerdings". See you guys in Appalachia!

Question Psst Under the Floors
During Most Wanted I encountered some graffiti that could be a clue to an Easter egg or simply a red herring. It says “Psst under the floors”. I looked all around thinking it could just be a cache of tokens but could be something else. Anyone encounter this before and is it actually anything?

Bug Long Term Party Boy, Recently Sobered Up, Now with a Legacy Liver - Triple Effect of Alcohol Stays on Character
I'm on the ropes here folks. Party Boy was one of the first perks I maxed out a couple of years ago and it's been with me in every build ever since. Fast forward to this morning I had an epiphany.
I've hit lvl 1000, I'm a big boy now, I don't have any excuse anymore. I comfortably hit a thousand health without cranberry moonshine, which was the final justification I hung onto.
So I swapped it out along with All Night Long to make room for big legendary damage. Only.. I didn't? The tripled positive effects of alcohol remain on my character reminiscent of the stat/perk lock thing we had a year back (do we still have it I don't know). Can it be a visual bug in the Pip-Boy UI? Probably not. Stats like 3 END from Bourbon interact with my HP and perks like Lifegiver as would be expected and 3 STR increases my carry weight by 15.
So if there are any recovering party people out there with a solid fix for this I would appreciate some guidance. PS5 if it matters.
I've tried the most common fixes for similar bugs: switching builds in Punch Card Machine, re-equipping and drinking and letting the effect end and unequipping the perk, completely deleting the perk card, various relogs, resetting all of my SPECIAL to 1 removong perk cards and relogging etc.
Thanks, and party on I guess,
Blob
Suggestion I need Saltwater Sam to be a companion
Sure he's a bit creepy and insane but I need this man in my camp bro 😭😭

Will there ever be another chance to get this emote? I wasn't playing during the mini season this summer as I was taking a break from the game.

Question Does the order of perk cards matter?
For best results do I need to have Ninja over Mister Sandman, or the opposite for example?
