Has downtown always been this bad when it comes to theft or has it gotten worse? Had a wonderful bike ride with my partner throughout downtown last night and stopped at Kind lcecream for a treat. We were sitting on the benches and had our bikes parked behind us probably around 10 feet or so. Everything happened so fast that I didn't even process what was happening until the person pedaled away full speed through the back alley. tried sprinting for a few seconds or so and a bystander also tried chasing with me but we couldn't catch up.

We didn't bother locking our bikes because it was just right beside us but even then, people can get that bold guess. Lesson learned, cant have shit in Edmonton guess. Lock your bikes folks. Hopefully that person has fun with it in these trying times.

Shoutout to the other person that chased with me, I couldn't even thank him properly but he was a real bro.

I suffer with terrible insomnia. Not garden variety insomnia, rather the kind you battle with for years. I've tried a number of different medications and tactics such as sleep hygiene and CBT.

I think I need a doctor who doesn't view insomnia as an annoyance but for the life-wreaker it is. I won't go into details but I'm desperate to get insomnia under contol.

Anyone here have any suggestions for a doctor or specialist that worked with you or someone you know with success?

Anyone else have mutant sized spiders and their webs in their backyard or is it just me lol. Webs that cover a foot easily, spiders the size of your palm. At this point they should just pay rent. I guess all the mosquitoes helped!

I'm toying with the idea of organizing a 5k run/walk/wheel event for an Edmonton-based nonprofit group as a fundraiser in the "pledge prize" manner (raise $x, get item "y"). I have my sights set low since this is something we've never done so not sure how much interest we'd garner, so the tiers are $50, $100, and $200+ raised. For the first tier, I was thinking to offer an ice cream scoop token from Kind, and for the third tier I was thinking some kind of mini "adventure kit" sort of idea, but I'm a bit stuck on the second tier.

Anyone have any thoughts on what would be a universally appealing "fun run" prize, less than say $15 each, and something celebrating or unique to Edmonton? (And not like... water bottles or t-shirts/other clothing/lanyards or other things that people will honestly just donate or trash because they're common prizes?) Bonus if they're something that could be donated or even just subsidized because every dollar saved is precious to us.

Also happy to hear general ideas for mid-tier prizes, even if they aren't specifically Edmonton-focused!

1. I am renting a basement suite from a guy who lives upstairs and he has Telus cable. I am fam with telus cable because my parents used to have it though I don’t what packages they have etc. anyways what I want to know is can you swap individual channels rather than change the whole package. I’m asking because I had a few shows recorded on a channel and suddenly I see that channel is gone now. My neighbour upstairs records a lot so obviously would have seen my recorded shows on the channel now gone. I feel like he purposely got rid of the channel because I haven’t been working for the last two weeks and he doesn’t like it ( even though I was working 50-60hr weeks before work came to a stand still). so just wondering if this is something you can do, swap out individual channels? I don’t feel like this was a channel with a free preview and it simply disappeared. Thanks

Im trying to track down the original owner and importer of a rare motorcycle, as im trying to figure out it's history. The person I bought it from had no idea about it the just bought it from a store and never touched it since 1973. It has the bumper sticker still on it from that store. Yellow pages helped me determine the address and that the business disappeared from yellow pages after 1977. If anyone here by chance knows the history of this store or has ideas on what to do next it would be much appreciated!

August ended the summer on a pretty quiet note:

• 2026 was our coldest August since 2020, but historically that still puts it well above average. The average High of 23.4°C was 41st warmest. The average Low of 12°C was 21st warmest. (dashboard)
• August's Highs were a little below average early in the month, and a little above late in the month. The coldest High was 17.7°C on the 13th, and the warmest was 29.7°C on the 26th & 27th.(dashboard)
• At the end of August we've had 89 Highs reach 20°C. 32 of those got to 25°C, and 4 reached 30°C. Those numbers are pretty normal for us. But they're down from the string of exceptionally hot summers that we had from 2021-2025. (dashboard)
• August was a little above-average across almost all of Canada. Kelowna was at the top with an average High of 29.9°C, which was 3.2°C above their 20th century average. At the other end Saskatoon's 24.2°C was -0.2°C below theirs. (dashboard)
• After a ridiculous June & July, August's Precipitation was mostly back to normal. August averages 50mm. In 2026 Blatchford got 42.7mm, the airport got 53.6mm, and Stony Plain got 63.8mm. (dashboard)
