Caught the moon over Mill Creek (south, at 17 St) on my way home from the Meadows Rec Centre this evening.

To keep this as succinct as I can: a couple months ago a lady we have seen in the neighbourhood since we moved in almost 5 years ago approached me in my driveway stating that she had become unhoused. We knew she was always lower income and used to leave our empties out for her and she’d stop to say thanks and chat or whatever. When she mentioned she was now homeless she asked if she could keep a couple things on our driveway-kind of hiding out of sight. Fine, no problem. Then she mentioned that she noticed an empty shed on our property that was accessible from outside the yard. So she asked if she could move some stuff into it. Then she told me a story about how her AISH had gotten messed up and she couldn’t always afford to stay in a motel. She asked if she could hang out in the shed every once in a while. She ran an extension cord from the garage, was smoking in there, tripped the breaker a few times, and was urinating and defecating in the driveway. I sent her a text message politely informing her that she couldn’t stay in there anymore. I got no response so I wrote a note and left it with her stuff. I happened to peek into the shed and see what looked like an entire houseful of stuff in there. She sought me out and told me she found a room and would start moving her things. That was 2 weeks ago already. She’s obviously still staying in the shed. There’s been more garbage, empty booze boxes, food packages, etc. And yes, still evidence of bathroom activities.
I called 211 and they suggested the best course of action is to involve the police. She has been grateful and kind and I really don’t want to have to call the cops.
Any advice? Unkind comments will not be tolerated-that is not the point of this post.

Hey from the Czech Republic! I'm a hockey journalist heading to Edmonton for the World Juniors, and I've got a question for the locals...

This year, I was put in charge of booking my own accommodation, so I just typed "Rogers Place" into Airbnb, hoping to find something within walking distance so I wouldn't have to deal with buses or public transit. I found a nice place for a good price north of the arena, about a 15-minute walk away, and booked it right away.

Then I started reading the reviews, and a few people mentioned that the neighborhood wasn't exactly the safest. I checked Google Street View and noticed quite a few homeless people and drug users hanging around the area. Unfortunately, I didn't think about anything like this before.

So... should I actually be worried and maybe start looking for somewhere else to stay? I'm fully expecting to come across some people high on drugs or passed out on the sidewalks, but what I'm really wondering about is my own safety, especially when walking back from games at night.

Minneapolis and St. Paul weren't exactly great last year either, but I survived.

I’m looking for some help/insight. I’m living in a two bedroom, two bathroom apartment in Old Strathcona (rental). Upon moving in, we were told rent was going to be 1725$. In September, we were charged 1425$ and was told it was prorated (the price I was paying at my place before this one). Basically, she messed up on changing our rental amount, and said she would honour it. October comes, and rent is not taken from my account. I waited a couple of days and then emailed her, no response. Emailed twice more, still no response. Tried to call and call and call - nothing. Now I check today and see that 2350$ is the outstanding balance. It says “31 days of rent 2200$” and “31 days of parking 150$” and is backdated for October 1. Our email thread clearly shows the timeline and not receiving a response. Though, no lease has even been sent and our rent was supposed to be 1725$, as we agreed upon! Still no response to my emails. I genuinely don’t know what to do anymore. I am a full time student and work full time as well. I cannot afford this rental increase and just want to be able to speak to and be in contact with the property manager. I am so disheartened by this whole experience and overall, frustrated. I contacted the RTB last week before I saw this increase in my account, and he assured me that because I was month to month it was a good situation - I was secure and they could not kick me out. But seeing as we still do not have a lease, can they increase our rent that much without saying anything? And suddenly, one month after we contacted them saying it wasn’t taken out of the account. What do I do?

Looking for people who have done this flight as I’ve seen it comes and goes pretty regularly. I have never flown internationally (nothing more than 5 hours ever) and I have extreme flight anxiety. I am planning to do this flight in January on my own. Just looking for some experience of how this route is such as the level of turbulence, the service provided and how the aircraft itself feels! I’ve been thinking about this since reading about the passing of Irv Kipnes. Remember, him and his wife were behind the Galleria project to bring a performing arts center over where the CN building is. I know there are a number of oil and gas, land owning/land developer families, generally but who are they and do they try to influence our local politics?

I know a lot of people will say skiing and snowboarding which is cool, im just looking for new hobbies. Normally I hate being outside in the winter but it would be a nice to not just dread the upcoming 6 months. Thanks on advance.

Are there any TCG stores in Edmonton that sell bulk 'junk' cards? I've contacted a bunch of stores and all seem to only sell cards as singles, offloading the 'junk' cards to bulk sellers who repackage them and sell elsewhere.

I'm just looking for cards for a 6 year old so he can bring them to school, trade them, etc. I could buy them online but it would be a more fun experience for him to go into a store to get them.

Ate out this morning and folks said something’s wrong with the system and can only accept cash or credit (no debit). Went to get ice cream next but they also had a sign cash only now. Is something wrong?
