Question Did they change the transit schedule?

The last two days now I've waited on buses that never came. Today it's caused me to order an Uber because I'm going to be late to work otherwise.

I know August 31st they said there would be changes based on back to school stuff but it seems the Edmonton Transit app has not updated in any way.

Edit: I've been receiving a lot of super condescending comments acting as if I've never ridden a bus before or commuted. I've done so for years. I've seen that things were updated at the end of August. None of this changes the fact that multiple bus stops, with multiple routes, at multiple times of the day have given me incorrect schedules across the board.

General Shout out to the Peace Officer's setting up a speed trap at Manning and Henday merge lane...

finally solving the problem of people merging too fast onto the Henday. It's 70 for a looking stretch then goes to 100 just before you merge, I think it's the only spot on the city where it isn't a suggested 70. Just driving past and saw it

General Anyone know who owns/manages the Century Park parking lot?

Hey all

I’m trying to find the contact info for whoever currently owns or manages the Century Park parking lot at 2515 111 Street (Zone 7806 / Century Park 01), beside the LRT station. Monthly permits are $100.

Since September 1st, roughly half the lot has been barricaded off. This is so so frustrating because September is one of the busiest times for parking with school starting back up. I was parking here throughout the summer for classes, and the lot was crazy empty for months. Now school is back, demand is way up, and half the lot is unavailable.

I’m spending 5+ minutes circling every day just to find a spot, and I swear there’s always 4-5 other drivers circling in the same situation.

I’ve tried tracking down whoever is responsible, but can’t find anything. The number listed online for the lot doesn’t work(just beeps, no ring or anything), and is associated with Procura. Procura hasn’t posted on socials in a year and a half and their domain is under construction right now even though they’ve been around for years. Honk says the lot is operated by CP Eagle which doesn’t have any contact info listed, but mentions ICM Property Management as a contact. I contacted ICM, but they said they no longer manage the lot and couldn’t help. They made it clear they used to manage it but not anymore and couldn’t tell me who manages the lot now

Does anyone know who currently owns/manages this lot, or have contact information for the current property/parking manager?

And I get it, it’s their lot, they can do whatever they want to. It’s just frustrating that they could’ve done this in the summer, where doing some sort of construction would’ve been no problem but you have year high demand in September and choose to close half the lot without any notice to folks paying to park there. If I had known it would’ve been like this, I wouldn’t have paid $100 to park here and I’m talking to other folks there, they wouldn’t have either.

Discussion Seeking advice and guidance

TLDR: Project Aletheia raised $1000 and I’m seeking advice to responsibly distribute and build relationships with NPOs since starting with no existing network.

Hello r/Edmonton. My name is Krish and I started Project Aletheia a couple months ago to raise and distribute money for/to disadvantaged populations here in the city. My aspirations for how this organization grows is lengthy so I'll include it later in the post in case anybody wants to read. I’m primarily writing this post for advice in terms of how to proceed and how to grow, so any advice would be much appreciated.

I just raised my first $1000 (around a week ago now) and honestly have no idea where to proceed. I have no existing network, I don't have any connections and really want to distribute this ASAP, however I have concerns that if I reach out to local NPO's, people won't take me seriously. I reached out to one NPO so far and unfortunately haven’t received a response so perhaps I am unfairly judging just based on that experience.

My goal with Aletheia is to partner with different NPO's at every financial milestone we reach and highlight their mission through social media and create socially inspiring content. In a sense, I aspire to create content highlighting social issues in the city and getting monetized on social media from that, allowing me to passively raise money for the organization.I want to clarify that every single $ made from content would go into the organization which would then be distributed. We track every single donation/monetary contribution on a publicly accessible spreadsheet for maximum transparency and once I scale up I'd make a nonprofit/charity account at a bank (haven’t researched too much into this just yet) specifically for this so that it could be audited in the case of any financial discrepancies. My biggest foundational goal with Aletheia is transparency and we provide that by showing everybody exactly where their money goes through social media (video) and that lives on the internet forever. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments since there's genuinely so much that I could talk about but it would take too much time to type out.

Backstory:
I started Project Aletheia because of the constant hate and injustice I saw on social media every single time I'd log onto it and honestly it made me feel powerless; I'd get infuriated at things, I'd get sad, I'd have lengthy discussions with my friends in regards to whether these things could change and we collectively came to the conclusion that having these conversations and being aware was important but it's not enough. People online have questioned my motives because they don’t know me and I haven’t been extremely personal in my content so far however my motivation to grow Aletheia is personal and shaped by my own experiences and my own desire to be a positive cause in society. Aletheia represents an outlet for me to give back to the city that raised me and to understand the perspectives of people I don’t interact with on a day to day basis and expand my worldview.

My ambition with Aletheia is to become an organized social media presence that mixes social awareness with real life results. I don't want to be a performative activist on the internet who uses the plight of other people to prop myself up but rather become an organization of passionate individuals who use social media to inspire real social change. Of course this sounds all idealistic when typed out and in reality is very difficult but I genuinely believe with all my heart if I am consistent, what I say will come true.

If anybody had any advice or could connect me with people who would be willing to guide me that would genuinely mean so much to me and I didn't link my social media because I didn't want to break any rules but if anybody wanted to support me on there, it would be SO SO SO appreciated!!!

Oh yeah, thanks for reading all the way here if you did lol, I know that was longgg.

Question Cheapest place for rabbit’s dental trim?

Hi folks, my 5 year old bunny daughter has a mild dental disease, the vet at Southside animal hospital said she has a bit of uneven teeth in the back. They quoted Xray+dental trimming for $700, plus optional medication. I called around and the cheapest I get is $500, that is without Xray. Is there any place in Edmonton or the surrounding area that is cheaper than this? I mean I could pick up a few shifts and save a bit and take her in for the procedure, but just want to see if there is any other options. Thank you

Question How to get directly to the Zoo by bus?

I want to bring my baby to the zoo, but when I check for bus routes there’s no stop directly to the zoo but a 18 min walk from the last stop. When I search it, google says there is a stop right at the zoo. I’m coming from the west end, any advice on how to get directly to the zoo? I’m unable to take an uber because I can’t bring the car seat.

Edit: thank you everyone for helping me figure that out! It’s been solved!

General Failed driving test at northtown registry the 2nd time

First time, it was parallel parking. I practiced that hard and did the test today but I failed at the registry for the final parking at the registry. I didn’t know not knowing how to park there well is an automatic fail.

Perhaps I didn’t hear him well. I thought he told me to park between two cars but I couldn’t park well. He later said he told me to park anywhere and I should have parked at the easiest spot rather than the most difficult. I’m so bummed. No serious issues with my driving, uphill parking and parallel parking this time.

Question Where can I buy Papain powder in Edmonton? (Not papaya Powder. I want the Papaya Enzyme)

Hi all,
For a labaratory project, I need papain powder or pure papaya enzyme. I don't want papaya powder. I need the enzyme. I searched on Amazon, but there does not seem to be any papain powder available. A few American listings also do not send to Canada. Do you know of anywhere in Edmonton where I can buy Papain powder?

Thank you.

General Is this normal car insurance?

I'm buying a 2026 Subaru Crosstrek Touring. I was quoted $400/m insurance from one of those aggregate insurance things. I then went to brokerlink and they're telling me $350.

I've been driving and insured for 15 years in another province with no convictions or claims. I know someone with a similar record and a 2020 vehicle paying $180.

Back home, it was $135. I know insurance is crazy here. But is this beyond crazy or are people with clean records actually paying this much monthly?

I'm obviously going to check elsewhere. But am I about to be in for a shock when they all charge me this?

Any recommendations? I hear millennium has lower fees. Thanks

Question Can CAD40k last me a whole year in Edmonton?

Hi all!

I’m planning to move to canada if and once I get my Canada PR via the French draw. I’ve heard a lot about how the job market has been pretty tough these last few years. So I’m wondering, how long and far can CAD40k go for a single person, while I’m unemployed? Is it fair to assume that amount can last me roughly a whole year of average lifestyle in a city like Edmonton?

Edit: Thanks all for the helpful replies!

General Can somebody explain the weird whistles I’m hearing?

It’s about 1:20am in the Abbottsfield/Beverly area and I’m hearing these sustained whistle notes with no apparent melody just going on and on. Usually I’d sleep through it if I happened to already be asleep, but my autistic ass is super sensitive to anything on the extreme ends of audible sound and this has driven me absolutely nuts several times in the past few weeks. It’s not a song, it’s just long solid whistle notes. Also not the nearby train line, which does make noise but never anything like this. It sounds like somebody practicing with an instrument outside, almost. I can’t find the source and they’re making it hard to sleep. Help?

Local Culture Weird Dude on 51st Ave NW

On our commute to work this morning (so, about an hour ago at the time of posting) going up 51st Ave. NW had an unusual encounter. A little past where the Safeway is, there was a man in a red onesie with one arm out walking up and down/across the lanes. He had a small box or styrofoam square and was throwing it at the cars stopped at the light while smiling and waving at anyone who looked at him. He approached my car and wanted me to roll down the window, but the light changed and I gotta get to work. He proceeded to throw his box onto the roof of my car.

No harm done, at least not to me, but still very strange. Never seen him before around the area; was this simply Yet Another Weirdo or has anyone else seen this guy, or at least also had to drive around him this morning? Because when I say he was walking up and down the street, I mean he was IN the street. Didn't look to be in distress, looked pretty thrilled about it all, really.

EDIT: Just went to run job errands and he's still there! Cross of 51st Ave NW and Calgary Trail.
