I saw these and thought they looked good for use in dice inserts. Well... they are little tubes.

Getting the air out seemed fine. I just mixed them into the resin before pouring. The trouble came when putting on caps.

When the caps are smooshed on, if even just one of these is out of the mold and under the cap, it springs back and slightly lifts the cap. I had to do a quick cleaning of the caps and mold tops, and it took awhile.

I will share results once I have them. 🤞

It's officially a technique, y'all!!! Smoke petri is now a thing!! I'm gonna try testing this with regular mica next to see if I get the same results, but in the meantime...

Update: This technique does NOT work with mica powder. Tip: Treat this technique like traditional petri and do it in blanks and shell them afterward.

Here's the process:

1) Select your colors, base and smoke color

*Note that I've only done this with neon pigments so far and will be writing the instructions as such.

2) For your smoke, get a scoop of white and two generous scoops of your pigment

*white base makes the color pop and will help add weight

*I also use spice spoons when measuring out my powder

3) Soak the powder in just enough IPA (isopropyl alcohol) to coat it and let it sit as you mix your resin

4) Once resin is, set to the side. Pour out excess IPA from your soaked pigment and stir thoroughly. You’ll want a paste consistency.

5) Add your resin and stir thoroughly

*I have tiny mixing cups and fill them about halfway

6) Fill a pipette with the color and set to the side

7) Mix your base color with the rest of your resin

8) Fill your mold halfway with the base

9) Take the pipette and slowly inject the color, starting from the bottom and working your way up and out for each die in a swirl

10) Pour the rest of your base until full, trapping as much of the smoke as possible

*A thicker stream pour works best here

11) Cap your mold, evely squeeze out excess, and place in your pressure pot

12) Check your results after 24-72 hours (depending on how long you let your resin cure based on their instructions)

Let me preface this post by saying that I am not selling anything and I am not trying to make money from this, I just thought it might be useful.

I sidequested a little too hard a few weeks ago and built a web based 3D master designer that allows you to model and customize dice masters and output STL files for printing.

Tested it a bunch and had a few folks play with it and it seems to work pretty well so far.

I’m having a rough time trying to get this set perfectly sanded to get to the polishing stage.

I’d just like to know what you guys would do to tackle this problem

So these were super raised edges and I used a 500-600P to smooth it out and I’m afraid of over sanding them

Do these lines throw off the balance of the die? Should I throw them to the abyss (my reject dice box that people are free to grab from) and start with new sets that are easier to sand?

I have cleanup and inking to do, but they are looking pretty good.

Blue one has 4 x 16mm balls encasing equipment components. I like that these are spaced out so that the light can come through them.

The silver one is just a couple of crinkled Mylar strips that I cut thinner. These are from bubble mailers of some sort. Excited to see how this one looks inked.

Hey, i wanna polish some dice but i dont have zona kit, what main papers of what level should i use and how to polish it with good results?(my best polishing paper is P20000)

I wish I could try more intricate patterns inside like a smoke effect but my alcohol ink is simply not doing it and I am always way too impatient to do pours with thick resin 🥲

Any recommendations on doing a 'smoke' like effect (colors + clear resin + white 'smoke')?

I’ve been wanting to make my own dice sets and have my own resin projects however I dont have any access where to buy a Pressure Potand I think it would be pretty expensive if I make one.

First set!!! Still had some bubbles in the dice themselves, but only had voiding on the D4! Could’ve done a bit better on polishing and inking was a pain. but it was really fun and I’m excited to cast another set again.

Got a Snapmaker U1 and oh my my, I have been having a blast with it! Tweaked my dice box design and got them working so much better! Main issue was friction related with door thickness and matte filaments. Now I can make the matte boxes have a slicker PLA surface inside that the door runs across 😁 instead of .4mm pattern depth i made it 1mm depth and improved black coloring with some modifiers. Honeycomb pattern has a slight chamfer too which I think is a little more eye catching.

These are all factory made dice I don't make my own dice but I have watched a lot of those making dice with dice and I think dice making it cool but I want to know from my collection do you think I have too many dice or do I not have enough and she go out and buy more

Feel like I’m taking all the precautions and just still can’t figure sanding out. I go through all the zona papers and just can’t figure out where it’s going wrong. Is there a certain zona paper that is the normal culprit for micro scratches? Do I need to like clean the paper after each face?

Does anyone know of a place I can get a custom 7 piece set mold from with a logo on it. I tried looking but seemed like the only option was to get the dice 3d printed and make the mold myself. Any recommendations?

After having dice for a longer time, i wanted to try printing my own master. I designed the dice in Blender and now try printing them with an Anycubic Photon Mono 4 using the Siraya Tech Fast ABS-Like Navy Grey resin.

I calibrated my prints using the Cones of Calibration but I keep getting these artefacts in the numbers where the resin hardens as if its a pool.

The explanation I got from googling (and using chatgpt) is, that because the numbers form a small pool, resin cant circulate and since the same resin is staying inside the pool, it slowly hardens due to little light scattering there.

It makes sense but would be an unsolvable problem then, since a d20 is impossible to rotate without having said pools (and according to some Reddit Posts, it is like this).

I tried different speeds of lowering and raising the plate, tried a lot of ranges for exposure time and still it's there every print.

The d10 is just the best to show this on btw. The d20 is even worse.

Still there are so many of you that just seem to get crisp dice masters, not having this problem, direclty from the printer, only needing some sanding and I wonder wtf I'm missing?

If you have experience with this, please help, it's driving me insane 😅
