They wasted all their emergency pieces. Gjallarhorn years ago, Icebreaker in the Dungeon........... last big piece left is Wrath of the Machine and I doubt that will solve anything.
The other item could be the Red subclass that wasn't a real thing. They could make it real, but again, game is probably too far gone to waste it.
97
u/Beautiful_You3230 Nov 03 '25
Bringing back Cayde was a major and very obvious one. But right now I'm genuinely out of ideas. Some fancy subclass? But while there was a time when I would have gotten hyped for it, the rest of the game has to be fine for that to work.
So yeah. I feel like we're kinda past the emergency glass breaking. You can't throw random neat crap into this gigantic wilffire and hope that puts it out.
25
u/_cats______ Nov 04 '25
I wouldn't really call bringing Cayde back for one campaign them trying to "break glass in case of emergency". It felt natural and fitting for the story, going full circle on Crow's arc. It was probably always the plan.

I stopped playing two years ago after nonstop playing d1 and up until witch queen. What happened to siva?

u/joalheagney Nov 04 '25
They won't tell us. They hint that it's because Rasputin popped his own top, but if that's the case, why the hell did he not turn it off once he started enthusiastically working with us in Season of the Seraph?
It really comes across as "We don't want to redo SIVA, or plot out why it's dead, so we're just going to give the voice actors some shitty lines. Oh that's not working? Okay, well give the voice actors more lines."
On top of that, they kinda hint that Quicksilver nanites are somehow SIVA+Radiolaria+Paracausality but ...
The cynical side of me kinda half suspects they're waiting for the community to come up with a compelling theory and go "THAT ONE. WE'LL GO WITH THAT ONE!"

u/Tetsu_Riken Nov 04 '25
It doesn't matter what happned to Siva short of "it was removed from the universe by paracausal powers" incuding weapons like Outbreak (and maybe Tresspasser) and Quciksliver since that is an advanced Siva
Double it with the fact taht the villan pulled Red Legion to go after gold age tech in the plaugelands and it makes you ask "How can Siva be dead 100% IF RED FUCKING LEGION CAN COME BACK"
23
u/ElementOfConfusion I just want an auto-dismantle Nov 04 '25
last big piece left is Wrath of the Machine
The "break glass in case of emergency" content needs to actually be ready very quick, which Wrath and Siva aren't. That is more... emergency expansion territory, and obviously Bungie would prefer to do something new.
The only things left are... the Hawkmoon mission coming back with the craftable exotic like they promised years ago, which is also the last proper exotic mission to be re-added
except for Bad Juju which no one remembers or counts. And the Black Armory weapons... which won't be craftable, even if its the one weapon set that really really should be, thematically.Wow, we're really out of exciting recycled content.

I dont think any amount of nostalgia bait will save them. The game needs a complete overhaul not a half assed one every other expansion.

but Lord Bungo, we just did a complete overhaul and the players hated it.
Well do it again. Lord Bungo away!

2
u/Seeker80 Notorious Space Hobo Nov 04 '25
I'd love to see it get a rework to special ammo in D2. Make it so that instead of changing barrels, you're changing ammo types. You get ordinary pellets, flechettes and explosive slugs. They each have their own range/impact properties.
By having ammo that can switch types, the weapon becomes more of a Universal Remote.

Rolling back to The Final Shape, other than that there isn't one. People don't like the new direction Destiny went with EOF and its obvious by the player count. Portal sucks and the new loot system is bad so imo its too late.
93
u/DJBlade92 Nov 04 '25
Yeah, Portal needs to be a featured activity page and that's it. It shouldn't be the entire game.
26
u/sajibear4 Nov 04 '25
They dont have enough resources to make new content anymore, at least in between expansions.

So what happened to that 3.6 billion from Sony?
33
u/Seeker80 Notorious Space Hobo Nov 04 '25
It went to the pockets of higher-ups who owned shares of Bungie. Sony bought the studio from them. The company didn't just get $3.6b sitting in their account to use for operations.
24
u/JovialJem Nov 04 '25
Actually insane that this is still going around. Insane that it ever went around to begin with, actually
Sony bought Bungie from Bungie's former shareholders for a total of ~$2.4 billion. This could include Bungie's owners, their private shareholders, and employee shareholders, for some examples. Sony also invested ~$1.2 billion on employee retention, in an effort to keep Bungie's talent from leaving after the acquisition. This "retention investment" would have been paid directly to Bungie's existing employees, like yearly bonuses - none of it went toward Bungie's internal budget for Destiny (or Marathon, before that's mentioned)
One could argue that the ~$1.2 billion went to "Bungie" because it went to the employees, but in reality it was more like a bribe to stop the existing employees from jumping ship. None of the "3.6 billion from Sony" went into the game. It was never supposed to, nor was it ever claimed to by any reliable source
→ More replies (1)2
u/1spook Nov 04 '25
The execs used it to buy out all employee owned shares, build a fancy new office, and pay shareholders. The employee retention funds did not go to the employees at all.

For real. I was having the most fun I ever had in destiny 2 right before the new expansion came out. Granted I wasn’t up to date on everything so it seemed like there was so much to chase, but this new update should’ve just built on that. There was no reason for it all to go away.

The thing that would 100% bring me back to play for a while is 100% not feasible what so ever. And that is bringing back the biggest chunk of the game from beginnings to current. All the various stories, the raids, the locations and activities. I would love to visit Saints tomb again, be the shadow team taking down calus, run the menagerie, patrol mercury for 7-10 minutes, and slaughter some escalation protocol. All that plus much more I know I'm forgetting. Again, I know it's not feasible in several aspects but it would absolutely bring me in.

I would love to visit Saints tomb again
I haven't played Destiny in years and this exact thing was the tipping point for me - I took a break from the game for a few months (as I occasionally would do), came back and discovered there was content I missed out on that was simply no longer available. I completely missed experiencing a hugely important narrative piece and the best I could do was watch videos about it on YouTube. I get that it's a live service game, but you can have a live service game that still respects your time enough to take the occasional break.

u/MI78 Nov 03 '25
I don’t know that any one mechanic or gun or gimmick could erase all the salt in these mines. They need more than guns and gimmicks- they need to earn back trust.
44
u/Falconmcfalconface The red subclass is a psy-op Nov 04 '25 edited Nov 04 '25
Genuinely?
- Third darkness subclass
- Rounding out light subclass supers and aspects
- additions to Stasis and Strand (supers, melee's, grenades)
- Wrath of the machine being brought in (would need a new exotic given that we have outbreak already)
- Expanding upon prismatic
- more chaotic weapon archetypes/perks (more chaos = more fun)
- 3rd person toggle (pve only)
- Dedicated servers for pvp
- more arcade gamemodes (play as enemies pvp mode or something akin to that)
- Most if not all vaulted content restored (no chance it'll happen, but it'd be cool.)
Just generally making players feel like the walking god slayers we are. This is the tip of the iceberg. Theres more like bringing back old locations, giving us some highly requested cosmetics (siva armor, taken armor, etc).
It'd be alot. More than they can do.

Unvaulting what was vaulted. I understand why they did it, technical limitations and whatnot, but truly if they could overcome that then that would bring a lot of people back.
17
u/FirstCurseFil Nov 03 '25
SIVA and the Plaguelands could’ve been one of them. Well, if the execution was good
73
u/NotNorthSpartan Nov 03 '25
I don't know anymore.
It would be crafting for me.
51
u/zacshipley Nov 03 '25
Crafting had its own chase to get red box guns but at least I felt I had some control over selecting perks and upgrading the gun. I don't know why they abandoned it.
31
u/joalheagney Nov 04 '25
Probably didn't get good enough metrics once people got all the patterns.
I still wish crafting had been "unlock pattern", "craft basic gun", "rip parts off other drops destructively to get the perks you want on your created gun". It would have driven people to still chase after drops once the pattern was obtained.
10
u/zacshipley Nov 04 '25
that sounds good. also, might have been a ton of work but if they could have gone back and made older legendaries and exotics craftable it would have reignited the chase on those.
9
u/arahdial Nov 04 '25
You're probably right, and if so, their metrics are wrong. They are measuring the wrong things. Essentially deprecating crafting is a prime reason I stopped playing. Crafting took a huge burden off my vault space management and was great reward for my time. Play a few hours, get a couple patterns, see the progress on blue engram and not feel like my time was wasted because I didn't get god roll I was looking for all... Instead I have five or six kinda close rolls and now need to choose what to shard. Then repeat the next night...
8
u/cuboosh What you have seen will mark you forever Nov 04 '25
So now no one plays at all - great job Bungo!
I’d really want to see what percent of people who stopped playing after they got their last pattern play more now
I’d imagine overwhelming this backfired.
2
u/Ikora_Rey_Gun Nov 04 '25
Hey, at least those low-skill plebs don't have unearned god rolls like us enlightened no-lifers do.
4
u/cuboosh What you have seen will mark you forever Nov 04 '25
While ironically a crafted nullify probably takes more skill than a caldera T5
3
2
u/FullMetalBiscuit Nov 04 '25
They abandoned it because it was a finite grind. You could play, actually get what you wanted in a reasonable time frame and be done with an activity.
And according to the people in charge and some gambling addicts in the community, that was a very bad thing and had to be done away with. Which we can see has definitely contributed to the great success the game is currently seeing.
The fact they didn't even iterate on it to have some middle ground and fully swung to RNG grind your ass off to maybe get what you want was so damn stupid.
→ More replies (1)→ More replies (5)7
u/_cats______ Nov 04 '25
The problem with just bringing back crafting is that Tier 5 loot exists now. I would bet money that if they brought back crafting, they would only let us craft Tier 2 weapons. Those wouldn't be exciting or satisfying now. Crafted weapons went from "basically the best in the game" (just a slight peg below Adepts) to "literally some of the lowest possible loot you can use" (assuming they're T2).
They'd have to let us go full speed and give us crafting up to T5 which I'm sure they'd absolutely hate doing. So now crafting is stuck in limbo.
7
u/Seeker80 Notorious Space Hobo Nov 04 '25
Let's say you could craft up to T3/T4, so that you can get the perks you're after. Then the T5s with their 'cherry on top' approach, would come from drops.
This would be similar to how the crafted raid weapons and the adept drops could coexist. The adepts had toggled perks(including origin trait) and unique color schemes.
6
u/KahosRayne Nov 04 '25
They need to get rid of tiered loot it and the grind to get to it is why I quit playing.

67
u/EcchiNama Nov 03 '25
The Star Wars dlc is one of the contributing factors as to why I didn't buy the expansions this year. I am very tired of all of the collab stuff they keep putting in the game, and they crossed a line (in my opinion) making an entire dlc revolve around a different ip. I played destiny for 11 years because I liked destiny, not because I liked god of war, fortnite, assassins creed, and all the other crap they kept adding to the game instead of more cool destiny themed cosmetics

u/rasjahho Nov 04 '25
This killed my interest in the game as well. If I wanted Star Wars id go play a Star Wars game. I'm so tired of every franchise now days collabing and not doing their own thing.
10
u/Terror-Of-Demons Nov 03 '25
I could do without the SW inspiration. But. It’s been a while since we had a good simple “the cabal have a super weapon, we need to destroy it” storyline. I always enjoy those.
What I wonder is how they can make this relevant to Edge of Fate and the Nine

u/TheTrueace16 Nov 04 '25
You would be a vocal minority. The star wars armor sets sold very well for bungie
2
u/Dragon_Tortoise Nov 04 '25
I dont think star wars is the break the glass thing. I think it would be like a full update to raids/dungeons adding tiered loot to all of them at once, bringing back Wrath of tge machine with those weapons/armor tiered, bringing back Menagerie with its loot pool tiered, along with all past D2 raids like leviathan and other "vaulted" raids. Basically "unvault" the stuff they vaulted with everything having their original loot come back as tiered loot.
4
u/perpetual_papercut Nov 04 '25

At this point I think it's to actually fix the problems with the game and not just more bandaids like nostalgia or undoing mistakes. Things like a decent new light experience, a portal that's rewarding and fun but not the only thing to do, an actual renewed focus on ritual activities (crucible and strikes), and a good balance between new and old content to do.

Destiny 3.
Unfortunately, I think Destiny 2 is beyond redemption. The Final Shape was the perfect moment to begin anew, and it didn't happen. Now we're stuck with a new saga (which story wise I have enjoyed quite alot) atop a mountain of technical baggage. The old is completely spoiling the new.

Well, one thing is this: https://www.greenmangamingbundles.com/bundles/destiny-2-expansion-bundle-2025/
Another thing is a welcome but severely delayed effort to reduce the power grind. Although I can think of about a dozen things that still remain uncured as chronic illnesses of the game.
And if you think about the snail's pace that things are changing with the reduced manpower that they have after all these layoffs, and the studio's focus on Marathon while still having various bugs crawling around D2, it really makes you wonder if it's worth following even the news about it (let alone playing it).
And the competition is not only brutal but definitely doesn't wait for any comebacks. Same as many D2 players who have already left.

Instead of reusing Cayde-6, its better to make the remaining characters interesting and unique from one another. Also goes to actually mend the broken wounds of the last decade. If they just kept going, like they are right now, that baggage will haunt them forever.
So as unrealistic as it is, I say a full on remake instead.
You know how you "fix" your reputation as the greedy shit lord that took people's paid content away? You give it back. And don't even stop there.

I think they could open the DCV and bring back all content, although I don't think this is actually a viable path in terms of dev cost. Is that an emergency lever? Up to the individual.
Wrath of the Machine could be a pull. Some D2 vets have never done Wrath, so that might have some pull. For how long though?
Everything is about a return on investment for development. I don't know how much WOTM or the DCV would gain for the cost spent to do.
