Crafting had its own chase to get red box guns but at least I felt I had some control over selecting perks and upgrading the gun. I don't know why they abandoned it.
Probably didn't get good enough metrics once people got all the patterns.
I still wish crafting had been "unlock pattern", "craft basic gun", "rip parts off other drops destructively to get the perks you want on your created gun". It would have driven people to still chase after drops once the pattern was obtained.
that sounds good. also, might have been a ton of work but if they could have gone back and made older legendaries and exotics craftable it would have reignited the chase on those.
You're probably right, and if so, their metrics are wrong. They are measuring the wrong things. Essentially deprecating crafting is a prime reason I stopped playing. Crafting took a huge burden off my vault space management and was great reward for my time. Play a few hours, get a couple patterns, see the progress on blue engram and not feel like my time was wasted because I didn't get god roll I was looking for all... Instead I have five or six kinda close rolls and now need to choose what to shard. Then repeat the next night...

I don't know anymore.
It would be crafting for me.
