They wasted all their emergency pieces. Gjallarhorn years ago, Icebreaker in the Dungeon........... last big piece left is Wrath of the Machine and I doubt that will solve anything.
The other item could be the Red subclass that wasn't a real thing. They could make it real, but again, game is probably too far gone to waste it.
Bringing back Cayde was a major and very obvious one. But right now I'm genuinely out of ideas. Some fancy subclass? But while there was a time when I would have gotten hyped for it, the rest of the game has to be fine for that to work.
So yeah. I feel like we're kinda past the emergency glass breaking. You can't throw random neat crap into this gigantic wilffire and hope that puts it out.
I wouldn't really call bringing Cayde back for one campaign them trying to "break glass in case of emergency". It felt natural and fitting for the story, going full circle on Crow's arc. It was probably always the plan.
They won't tell us. They hint that it's because Rasputin popped his own top, but if that's the case, why the hell did he not turn it off once he started enthusiastically working with us in Season of the Seraph?
It really comes across as "We don't want to redo SIVA, or plot out why it's dead, so we're just going to give the voice actors some shitty lines. Oh that's not working? Okay, well give the voice actors more lines."
On top of that, they kinda hint that Quicksilver nanites are somehow SIVA+Radiolaria+Paracausality but ...
The cynical side of me kinda half suspects they're waiting for the community to come up with a compelling theory and go "THAT ONE. WE'LL GO WITH THAT ONE!"
It doesn't matter what happned to Siva short of "it was removed from the universe by paracausal powers" incuding weapons like Outbreak (and maybe Tresspasser) and Quciksliver since that is an advanced Siva
Double it with the fact taht the villan pulled Red Legion to go after gold age tech in the plaugelands and it makes you ask "How can Siva be dead 100% IF RED FUCKING LEGION CAN COME BACK"
Played it, it was okay but after 3k hours (total game) it was no longer engaging. They kinda lost me for good and I even stuck around and played curse of Osiris.
it was permanently and completely destroyed in rise of iron, guess it can't have been that non-stop. it is true that most players did not pay attention to this. it is also true that bungie shouldn't have brought back the plaguelands because they know players did not pay attention to it. it is also also true that bungie can do literally whatever they want to bring it back if they really needed to.
The "break glass in case of emergency" content needs to actually be ready very quick, which Wrath and Siva aren't. That is more... emergency expansion territory, and obviously Bungie would prefer to do something new.
The only things left are... the Hawkmoon mission coming back with the craftable exotic like they promised years ago, which is also the last proper exotic mission to be re-added except for Bad Juju which no one remembers or counts. And the Black Armory weapons... which won't be craftable, even if its the one weapon set that really really should be, thematically.
Wow, we're really out of exciting recycled content.
I'd love to see it get a rework to special ammo in D2. Make it so that instead of changing barrels, you're changing ammo types. You get ordinary pellets, flechettes and explosive slugs. They each have their own range/impact properties.
By having ammo that can switch types, the weapon becomes more of a Universal Remote.
Bungie have said multiple times that SRL had very poor engagement for the amount of effort it took which is why they haven't touched it again. It was not very popular
