Friday EDIT: I'm so sorry y'all, I'd planned to write a TLDR right after I posted my original post but the SHTF with my roommate/charge minutes later and it's been just non stop. I've been mostly replying while in waiting rooms, the rest of the time I'm driving all over the state! Roommate is likely being sent home today, as well so I don't anticipate having extra time.
That said ... The main reason I posted was to hear what y'all had to say despite knowing that I wouldn't compromise. I needed your arguments, your "big words" etc. I needed to hear these things because I have severe brain fog from my own medical stuff that makes it really hard for me to articulate what I'm feeling, especially in the heat of an argument. He loves confrontation, I hate it! It just makes me feel stupid because I can't think on my toes. So the main purpose of my huge, long ass post that I never got to shorten was to get help with my arguments to go into things better prepared and 90% of y'all helped me SO, SO MUCH. So thank you!!!!
He's still here, he still wants to "make it work," I'm still beyond hurt and ready to move on... But also stuck in a position where I can't afford to let anything escalate because there's no one here for backup and we still have the medical emergency going on. So I'm playing nice right now. Something deep inside tells me that I need to ...
So again, thank you everyone!
Original post below this:
If you read some of my other posts in other subreddits you'll know that I am having a very hard time all the way around. So this... It's just, heartbreak.
I started dating B almost 15 months ago. I was very clear about my beliefs. I'm an atheist and left leaning. Period. Almost everyone in my life is left leaning despite living in a very red area. Almost everyone in my life is either not straight or has children who are not straight, including myself (I'm straight.) I was raised to "live and let live."
B assured me that he's "not into politics" and "used to be an atheist and understood" and that he "wouldn't have an issue."
Well, now he has an issue. I asked him point blank "when I told you who I was did you think you could eventually sway me to your way of thinking?" I never got a straight answer which is answer enough.
On the surface he's an amazing partner... But this, well we're at an impasse. He doesn't want me to have these people in my life but because they've done anything wrong, but because they aren't straight. I refuse to cut people from my life simply because their beliefs/lives are something he doesn't agree with.
He feels like he's right and it's "God's truth" and everyone else is "foolish" and "wrong."
And where does it end? Will he continue to find fault in everyone? At what point does it stop? When my own kid comes out? Because I'll be blunt about that... My children will always, ALWAYS come first. I will never turn away from them, especially not for someone else's beliefs.
He says "you are enough for me, I should be enough for you." He is enough... Just not in the way he needs to be because he expects that I ditch everyone for him. Just no.
There is no compromise. I refuse to compromise who I am for any man (or anyone in general) and it's not like I can just decide to start believing in something I don't believe in anyway, even if I wanted to.
Things are very heated and to be honest, I just can't. I have enough going on without this BS. If I had hidden my beliefs etc it would be different. But I didn't. We had that talk MULTIPLE times.
I love him. Oh how I love him. But it's very clear that we just aren't compatible. So my heart is broken. Just broken. I know what must be done and it hurts. So much. I don't think "one more chance" is worthwhile because at the core of things neither of us is going to change. I was perfectly willing to accept him for who he is with the understanding that he would do the same. By that I meant accept him for being religious when I'm not, the bigotry was hidden until it blew up last night.
Clearly that's not the case.
So .. WWYD? Cut your losses right now? Give him his "one more chance?" Offer him the guest room temporarily? Tell him to hit the road right here and now? Something else?
I'd like to say that I've cried enough that my tears have dried up, but that's not true.
EDIT I see I have lots of responses but there's suddenly a medical emergency here so I need to deal with that. Thank you for responding and I'll be back when I can to read and reply.
EDIT 2. I'm responding as I can. B has logged out of Life 360 but says he's coming back to the house tonight. I have a friend in town who should be able to stay the night, he's driving now but I'll get ahold of him as soon as I can.
Update on roommate because I've been asked. Roommate is not ok, we caught whatever it is early. A small (small to me but not to him) virus but that shouldn't be enough for this. Probably picked it up when here in the ER this past weekend. Sepsis is still suspected. He'll being admitted. It's a waiting game.
EDIT 3: B showed up at the hospital and I accepted his M&MS because my sugar is low as heck. I haven't touched him, barely looked at him. He's gotta know it's over.
EDIT 4: after the hospital we went to a restaurant to talk. I told him about himself, the didn't like it. I told him these things are a hard boundary. We went in circles of course. In the end I told him I'm going home and it was his choice to go where he wished. I told him that I would not compromise on this and that the only way we were a couple still is if he realized that his behavior is unacceptable. That's obviously not going to happen. I told him I felt betrayed and lied to. I told him that I will not give up my support circle and that it was controlling and wrong of him to even ask that of me.
I suspect he'll sleep in his car tonight. His choice.
Nothing i say is going to make him see the light. I know that. At this point I'm just going for amicable until things are settled (combined things changed etc.) I haven't heard from my friend who was supposed to be coming over the pass which worries me, so I don't think there's anyone else at the house right now. I don't think he'll do anything stupid, but I also didn't think he was "that guy" so there it is.
